MJ12 Detachment Agent

  • I've actually never played D&D (it wasn't really a thing in Eastern Europe), but it seems to be clearly inspired by the D&D setting.

  • I didn't get very far into it (been meaning to start a proper session). That's really too bad, it did seem like the game was well made.

  • Didn't see Krafton mentioned. I was hoping they were just the publisher and the studio was independent, but alas:

On 11 November 2022, South Korean video game publisher Krafton announced that it planned to acquire Neon Giant for an undisclosed amount - which was scheduled to begin on 14 December.

  • I actually haven't tried this yet, but as a Civilization fan and based on the screenshots (lot's of depth and Win32 UI is a nice touch) this looks enticing.

    Good to hear it's addictive.

One of my post played games is Evolution of Ages: Settlements. It looks like this:

It was made with VisualBasic, the developer wanted to make a sequel, but he realized VisualBasic was depreciated.

  • Depends on the genre and how popular the game is.

  • That's fair. A blended net revenue per unit figure of $10 might actually be high.

  • I don't know if it's true or not, but I've heard a rough proxy for modest success "above breakeven" in the indie sphere is 1,000+ reviews.

The chart doesn't break out the 1,000+ review count band, but it looks like under 5% of the 19,000 games released in 2025 on Steam were even able to go above 500 review count.

The 1,000+ review count band as a measure of success does make sense in a back of the napkin kind of way.

Assuming 5% of buyers leave a review, that would be 20,000 in sales. At a net unit revenue of $10 (after Steam's cut and the payment processor), that would be $200 K net revenue.

  • This is a very a good game. It's like a fantasy macro-rimworld that morphs into SimCity, but where you design the buildings and customise them. Unparalleled scale considering the depth.

That being said, it also has its flaws. A lot of the mechanics and UI elements are unintuitive.

The battles are a big part of the marketing, but I had to do a web search to figure out how to control my troops (it's not simply select a group and place orders).

Trade was also confusing and difficult to manage (although I did figure it out eventually).

Maybe I am missing some concepts, but on my last run I got soft locked and I couldn't attract settlers leading to a death spiral. I think it was a combination of my city design (supply chains stopped being efficient?) and inter-race conflicts (that's a thing in this game) had a massive negative impact on attracting new settlers.

That being said, there are mods that simplify these elements (e.g. the racial harmony mod), but I wanted to play the game without mods that affect the baseline balance.

I might need to just try a modded run as I really enjoy the fantasy city-builder with extensive micro customisation experience that Songs of Styx offers.

  • I don't mind you ending your post using the phrase "I don’t mind if you respond to get the last word." This is common in english-language rhetoric.

I haven’t personally had issues with grad, ml or hexbear. I’m not defending those instances, their mods, suggesting the admins act in good faith, or claiming they haven’t said shitty things.

So you do tolerate tankie ideology; specifically pro-imperialism and pro-genocide attitudes of the mods, admins and user base. It's simply not an issue for you!

You should have started with this and not beat around the bush.

    Thanks for confirming!

  • Db0 is not perfect, nor am I or you, but they are a far cry from what lemmy.ml is, which itself is also a far cry from what Lemmygrad.ml and hexbear.net are.

No one is saying anything about being perfect or not.

We are discussing whether DB0 endorses tankies and enables tankies. You asked for something concrete and specific to prove this; I obliged.

With all due respect, the other points are not relevant as far as I am concerned.

DB0 endorses, enables and covers for tankies. This is a fact.

  • That’s a hell of a long walk from my take that “Lemmy instances can’t be authoritarian.” Suggesting that makes me okay with genocide is a dick move.

I strongly disagree with this framing. Whether you support or don't support my beliefs is irrelevant because we are not discussing my beliefs.

You know a lot about how allegedly bad MOG and their admin is, but the only negative thing about the tankie triad for you is some discussion about Art Spiegelman. With all due respect, this does not sound in the least convincing.

Everything else I mentioned (their support for authoritarianism, their support for the russian invasion of Ukraine) is just my belief. It's my opinion, right?

Let me get this straight, you know a lot about MOG, yet the images in the stickies on MOG that highlight Desalines', lead dev of Lemmy and admin of ML and lemmygrad, support for Chinese authoritarianism are completely alien to you.

The screenshots showing Desalines claiming that critique of Chine is equivalent to racism; this is the first time you've heard of this, right?

Desalines claiming that “Slava Ukraini” is fascist slogan (literally saying all Ukrainian are fascists) is giant surprise for you, yes?

    Or are those screenshots fake?

  • So no evidence, OK!

Ok, then tell me how the screenshots of Dessalines justifying the russian invasion of Ukraine are taken out of context? Or say the posts of Devel, the main ML admin saying China genocide against the Uighurs is a CIA operation. What do you mean out of context?

Is this a conspiracy by the haters? Or conspiracy by the CIA?

You follow with referencing “leftists” as a something of a falsehood… So do you mean to ask what is wrong with being an ‘anti-"leftist"’ or ‘anti-leftist’…?

Funny how this is what you latch on and not that:

There are thousands of examples of western “leftists” cheering for the russian invasion and spreading russian propaganda.

  • I am big fan of abstract constructs (hunger/ thirst meter) in games. I am all for experimentation, but in terms of UI/UX, different for the sake of being different isn't always a good (and I say this as a person who is opinionated about UI/UX and will simply not play games if they have a console UI).

  • Meanwhile on Grad is some highschool level call-out culture. The person who runs it is abusive, insulting, has made some pretty crazy comments about Isreal, and uses alts to manipulate votes.

Why is it call out culture to show for example ML users cheering on the russian takeover of Lugansk oblast (with claims such as "Lugansk is liberated from the Nazis")?

This is fair evidence to show that ML's users, its mods and admins are committed genocidal imperialists. A lot of leftists pretend to care about Gaza, but the examples in MOG strongly suggests that this is an aesthetic choice and if russia/china were organizing genocide in Gaza, the leftists would claim that it was a "de-radicalization operation" and that "russia is trying improve the lives of the Gazans".

  • Do you have any evidence for this?

Can you site a specific post on MOG that's not accurate.

Can you provide evidence for your sockpuppet account theory?

What's wrong with being an anti-leftist? I am Ukrainian (living in Ukraine), of course I am going to oppose western "leftists" who wish harm to me, my family and my fellow citizens. It's reasonable to consider them mortal enemies.

There are thousands of examples of western "leftists" cheering for the russian invasion and spreading russian propaganda.

  • You asked for substantive receipts around my original statement, I provided:

    • Evidence of direct endorsement (purely voluntary, so DB0 admins wanted to make it) of ML by DB0
    • Evidence that the Lemmygrad admin, “Muad’Dibber”, is Dessalines, the head Lemmy dev.

    You yourself provide the following:

    • Evidence of the DB0 downvoting thread documenting tankie excesses

These points speak for themselves and they are merely the tip of the iceberg. There are tons of post by Devel, a senior mod on ML, claiming that China's genocide of the Uighurs never happened, that access to food in the 80s USSR was comparable to that of the US and bunch of other things.

DB0 has no issues with such claims and they will protect users such as Devel and many other genocidal tankies. Either DB0 are comfortable Devel's claims or they are not, there is no half pregnant option.

  • Where you see discussions about Art Spiegelman, I see celebration for the russian takeover of Lugansk oblast (and that's the tip of the iceberg, I've seen them calling for death of users by an ice pick; a reference to Trotsky's assassination).

The head Lemmy dev's complete intolerance for criticism of russia/china and open support for the full scale Russian invasion is widely documented.

You can ignore it if you want (it may not be important for you), but a lot of people are not OK with genocidal, pro-imperialism, authoritarian communists.

The Spiegelman comment honestly gives me reason to believe you are acting in bad faith.

  • fits the definition of “authoritarian.”

Then why do they ban any criticism of russia and china and support their genocidal imperialist policies?

  • I've played this for about ~4 hours. It's a fun experience. It does have some flaws, but the foundation is great.
