Determining the reason no one replied to your Lemmy post.

I was playing around with Lemmy statistics the other day, and I decided to take the number of comments per post. Essentially a measure of engagement – the higher the number the more engaging the post is. Or in other words how many people were pissed off enough to comment, or had something they felt like sharing. The average for every single Lemmy instance was 8.208262964 comments per post.

So I modeled that with a Poisson distribution, in stats terms X~Po(8.20826), then found the critical regions assuming that anything that had a less than 5% chance of happening, is important. In other words 5% is the significance level. The critical regions are the region either side of the distribution where the probability of ending up in those regions is less than 5%. These critical regions on the lower tail are, 4 comments and on the upper tail is 13 comments, what this means is that if you get less than 4 comments or more than 13 comments, that's a me

Community federation glitch?

In perusing the Lemmy community list, I've noticed several times the dormant [email protected] community mentioning a consolidation with [email protected]. As the latter instance has since gone offline, I inquired with the [email protected] moderator about switching the consolidation to one of the other two active Ukraine communities.

I was subsequently informed that the change had indeed already been made, but that the version of the community on lemmy.dbzer0.com didn't reflect it. As the updated version is visible on both the original lemmy.ca page, as well as the lemmy.world version of it, is there a reason our version of it is out of date?

Edit: Seems that subscribing to the community to federate it updated it successfully.

WE ARE MOVING TO LEMMY.WORLD!!

It is my pleasure to announce that effective immediately, we are transferring our community to Lemmy.world! This has been a few months in the making, so my entire mod team is already on board.
FAQ:
Why?
That's a complicated question with a long answer! The primary reason is moderatorial and ideologial differences between my team and Ada's excellent team of admins. We are on good terms with Ada and her team, and have gotten her consent to do this. In addition to this, the fact that a large portion of instances do not federate with lemmy.blahaj.zone has caused our reach to be reduced, with many communities creating their own 196es.
How does this work?
Currently, as there is not an easy way to transfer an entire community (trust me, we checked), so we are locking the community as mod-only, and moving our focus to the 196 on lemmy.world. For you guys, functionally nothing has changed.
What about the posts?
Well, we

edit: As I'm seeing a lot of worry about the impact this will/could have on the community, please be assured we have the same mod team, and will be holding the community to the same standards. the same things that were always allowed will continue to be allowed and the same things that got things removed before will continue to get things removed before. Lemmy.world admins have agreed to allow us to run our community on our terms.

What's wrong with lemmy.world federation?

I'm on SDF Lemmy myself. SDF used to have its fair share of outgoing federation issues, and whenever one of my posts wouldn't make it to a non-SDF instance a community is hosted on, I would rant about it in the local SDF venue.

But for the past few months, I really haven't had any issues, save for the occasional post that would never make it across. And today I realized that all of them, without exception, are posts I make to communities hosted on lemmy.world.

Here's the latest one: it shows up on my local SDF [email protected] mirror alright but is nowhere to be seen on the primary [email protected] community page. It's possible that it will show up there late eventually, I've seen it happen many times on other instances as they synchronize, but if this one is anything like the previou

Issues federating a new community

I created the community aimusic. However it does not seem to federate to other instances.

Trying to search it from e.g. lemmy.world, mander.xyz or lemmy.dbzer0.com results in nothing. The pages just show errors. Also after a few attempts and using the search function from the respective instances yields nothing.

Did this happen with any other communities recently? Is this temporary and will resolve itself within the next days, or is there some deeper issue?

Original Title: Here is why I am disappointed with the organized Blackout (which seems no more), and now is the best time to make a mass-migration effort move to Lemmy (where reddit's ex-3rd party app ecosystem has flocked to)

Disclaimer: Sorry if the write-up is a bit too long.

I am pretty shocked by how we handled the blackout and the whole Reddit API mess months ago but even more so now with everyone pretty much back to just using this platform.

I admit the blackout was pretty powerful while it happened but we did it for the wrong reason - The blackout hoped Reddit would notice our message and turn over it, but we all know that this was never going

Is this the Korean Lemmy instance?

Hello. I am from Korea. I heard of Lemmy while I was browsing the Korean community DCinside. I thought lemmy.world was "the" Lemmy community. But it turns out each community is hosted by different people, which are divided into smaller communities?

Lemmy is not well known in South Korea. To be honest I don't really know how this federated system works. But I do hope people can take a look at communities not funded by corporate.

SLRPNK declines Lemmy Community Boost

SLRPNK recently received a registration request for @CommunityBoost -- the bot for Lemmy Community Boost, which we've denied.

What is Lemmy Community Boost?

Lemmy Community Boost (LCB) is a system written by @iso, admin of lemy.lol. The purpose is to put new communities into the "All" feed of more Lemmy instances. All SLRPNK communities appear in SLRPNK's "All" feed, but SLRPNK only requests content from a remote community if at least one of our members has subscribed to that community. If no-one on SLRPNK has subscribed to a remote community, then no-one will see posts on that remote community in the "All" feed.

LCB seeks to change this by creating a bot account on SLRPNK that subscribes to every new community on instances that have been pre-screened by Fediseer, a Fediverse Web-of-Trust system maintained by @db0 of
