A scene i'm trying to make includes a hole in the sky that i'd like to have disintegrating edges, as shown here. I should only need one angle on this scene so i don't need something that's pretty from every angle.

Here's what the scene looks like currently, with a filled black circle for the hole.

And here's roughly what it should look like.

I used GIMP's pick and blur filters to do this, but i'm curious to know if there's a good way to get this same effect straight from Blender. What are my options here besides editing the picture every time i update the scene?

Any time I try to learn about these topics it always references super old books that are written in a complicated English that's beyond my simplistic knowledge.

I'm Gen Z and didnt know the difference between Democrat and Republican until like 4 years ago because I never cared about politics (and pretty personal reasons), this has obviously changed as of recent. As I went through highschool in one of, if not THE most censored history classes in the country (and from a trump supporter teacher too..) I wasn't given the best background knowledge for these topics.

I would like a book that essentially explains the ideas and some of the historical events in a more understandable way that won't lead me to the Wikipedia page for some random person from Russia in the 1900s confused as hell.

Any recommendations would be appreciated.

I am looking for an ebook reader which can highlight text in various colors. Everything should get synced across iOS and desktop. By sync, I mean that highlights I make in a PDF on one device should be treated as an editable highlight on the other device, and not as a permanent part of the PDF. This is to be used for textbooks.

Currenty, I use Apple Books but it is very slow and I cannot sync it outside the Apple environment.

I am okay with free options, self hosted options and one time purchases. I am not so keen on subscriptions but will consider a cheap one.

Any help or advice is greatly appreciated.

27M. I have lost 5 BMI points, down to 30 from 35, in 5-6 months. I did simple CICO and resistance training (PPL split).

I am a bit exhausted of the caloric deficit now and want a break. I have felt like this before and taken a maintenance phase of 1 week and then continued cutting. Now that I am no longer obese, I feel less inclined to continue.

Should I recompose at my current weight or should I continue cutting? Ultimately I do want to get to at least 28 BMI or lower.

Any help and advice is greatly appreciated.

I'm deploying an Amazon EC2 instance of RHEL and attempting to install MongoDB via yum.

Following the guide provided by MongoDB, if I place only the repo file for either mongodb 7 or 8, the install fails. If I place both repo files, it still fails.

If only 7's repo file is present, it fails with 7's GPG key.

Hi all, I have recently installed Bazzite, after previously being on Nobara.

I have been playing Dave the Diver and DOOM (2016), both through Steam, and I get pretty serious input lag. A second or more delay at times, generally when FPS is struggling.

I'm running on a laptop with integrated graphics, so the struggling integrated GPU is not a surprise, but I didn't have this input lag issue with the same games on Nobara.

Any tips on a setting or something to help this?

I have lowered graphics settings to help with FPS, but ultimately I am not going to be able to avoid occasional FPS dips. The mouse input is instant, it's just an issue with the keyboard.

Any help appreciated!

Basically the solution is to add IBUS_ENABLE_SYNC_MODE=2 to /etc/environment and restart.

Problem: In GPT4All, under Settings > Application Settings > Device, I've selected my AMD graphics card, but I'm seeing no improvement over CPU performance. In both cases (AMD graphics card or CPU), it crawls along at about 4-5 tokens per second. The interaction in the screenshot below took 174 seconds to generate the response.

I recently installed Linux Mint Cinnamon on a laptop, and I'm having a two-sided issue. Web searches have yielded no solution. I'm also very new to Linux.

Problem 1: When alt-tabbing out of a fullscreen application (at this moment, Helldivers 2), the application will minimize, but I cannot restore it. It will appear for roughly half a second, and then re-minimize. I can hear the game still running in the background.

I have tried alt-tab, super+number, and right-click>restore. None seem to work.
I have tried disabling thumbnails for windows, no fix.
Disabling effects, no fix.

Problem 2: As a workaround for problem 1, I tried borderless fullscreen. It works, but there is a white, 1 px border around the screen. I have tried changing themes, no fix. Same thing with disabling effects. I do like the Mint-Y theme, but there's no longer an option to change window borders, from what I've researched. Again, trying a different theme didn't seem to get rid of the white border

So long story short, I rescued these froma friend. They were planted too early, pruned poorly and the light cycle is messed up and they are flowering.

Is it safe to just top them and try to generate nodes? Pinch all the buds off and keep going?

I'm a bit of a novice so this is beyond my knowledge.

I’m running funkwhale in docker. This consists of a half dozen docker containers one of which is postgres.

To run a backup, funkwhale suggests shutting down all of the containers and then docker compose running pg_dump on the postgres container. Presumably this is to copy the database when nobody is accessing it.

For some reason when I do this, I get an error like:

pg_dump: error: connection to server on socket "/var/run/postgresql/.s.PGSQL.5432" failed: No such file or directory
    Is the server running locally and accepting connections on that socket?

  

It would seem that postgres isn’t running. I see the same error with other commands such as psql.

If I fully boot the container and then try exec-ing the command, it works fine.

So it would seem that the run command isn’t fully booting the instance before running the command? What’s going on here?

The container is built from postgres:15-alpine
