Otterly adorable

Done! Technically finished before my sister's birthday but needs to be framed and some real life stuff got in the way so will still be belated. But! It's done. And adorable.

The likely struggle of the Hudson’s Detroit project to meet projected Detroit jobs and revenue is the latest large-scale project fueling the debate over the structure of tax-incentivized development.

Gilbert’s Bedrock promised 2,000 new jobs and $71 million in new tax revenue in its controversial bid for the incentive. General Motors’ move from the Renaissance Center to Hudson’s Detroit will affect an estimated 850 positions.

The Ilitch family failed to deliver on new neighborhoods and entertainment districts it promised would sprout around Little Caesars Arena in “District Detroit,” and as a second phase of the project struggles to get started. All told, taxpayers would cover about $1.8 billion, or 64%, of District Detroit’s cost, if it is built out. The Ilitch’s Olympia Development did not re

This 45 min video promised a PhD in garlic 🧄

My takeaways after watching the whole thing:

As soon as garlic's cells are destroyed (cut, smashed, pressed) the process that creates allicin, the main compound responsible for fresh garlic's flavor and aroma, starts and peaks after 1 min. So, use garlic as freshly as possible.

Dried, or otherwise preserved garlic loses the allicin as it is very volatile. You still get a garlic like flavor from them, but it's always inferior to fresh. However, if you're cooking something where garlic is not the main flavor that is likely ok (only noticable in direct comparison).

I also made the cilantro chicken he used for a taste test yesterday and it was da bomb! Here's the recipe:

Marinade chicken thighs with a paste of:

  • 4" ginger
  • 1.5 lemon's juice
  • garlic
  • salt

Brown over medium high heat in neutral oil.

Top with Sauce, blended:

  • 2 roma tomatoes
  • green chillies
  • squirt of tomato paste
  • half bunch cilantro
  • salt

After a few min finish with whole milk yogurt. Serve with rice, garnis

Server Upgrade to 0.18.1

Hello, community.

After my faux pas earlier today I now have some good news for you: I just upgraded the server to Lemmy 0.18.1, which brings mostly stability, performance and security improvements.

You can see a list with the changes here.

I recently followed the changes to Lemmy very closely and pretty much immediately pulled the latest changes when I saw something that I deemed necessary, which means, we were already pretty close to 0.18.1 release anyway.

As usual, let me know if something doesn't work, etc.

Much love from Germany!

Gullivarr (Animal Crossing)

From Dragoncon 2022 - I haven't played the game myself, but I had a group of friends that were doing it, so I picked one that seemed fun and joined in! The beak is laser-cut craft foam, and the feathers are all laser-cut and airbrushed fabric. The jacket was substantially modified to add relevant details (including an attached vest, not visible when I'm washed up on shore) and the rest of the outfit is closet/amazon cosplay. The communicator is an inflatable we made ourselves. I had to remake the back from scratch to get something that would scale up that big, and we got it custom printed. It works as a costume as well (with legs sticking out the bottom), but is fairly unpleasant, so we determined it was better as a prop. edit: Editing to see if the post will federate

Rosalina (Super Mario Galaxy)

To help get the waters started here, since it's terrifying to be the first one to post in a new community, I'll kick it off!

From 2021, this was one of the first cosplays I ever did, Rosalina. Decided to learn how to sew a dress for this, as well as some prop work. It was incredibly tough, but was incredible to pull of. It was also the first cosplay I was able to do after coming out at my university. So, while I've done more since then, this one still means a ton to me.

Would love to go back to it now and get a proper photo done sometime. This was the best photo I got of it.
