Is there is any worthy alternative to Reddit?
The more time passes, the more I started to see the flaws in Lemmy design and development which will prevent it from being something meaningful.
Which lead me to ask, is there is any worthy alternative to Reddit?
Anything else?

Meta is considering a subscription option for UK Facebook users after it agreed to stop targeting a campaigner with adverts based on her personal data.
The technology company said the social network it owns and Instagram were “free for British consumers because of personalised advertising”.
It comes after Meta agreed to stop targeting adverts at human rights campaigner Tanya O’Carroll after she filed a lawsuit against Facebook’s collection of personal details.

Meta said it was “pleased to draw a line under this long-running case”.
A spokesperson said: “We fundamentally disagree with the claims made by Ms O’Carroll, no business can be mandated to give away its services for free.
“We take our UK GDPR obligations seriously and provide robust settings and tools for users to control their data and advertising preferences.
“Facebook and Instagram cost a significant amount of money

Wow, Pinterest is trash
I started up my account for the first time in at least a decade and received an account violation strike within 24 hours for pinning "adult content." No information provided to explain or otherwise identify the offending item. Nor anything remotely helpful in figuring out the who, what, where or why. Did I mistakely pin a photo with visible toe or ankle? Who the hell knows. Fully half the things I pin vanish within a few hours so there's literally no chance of deciphering the batshit crazy community standards.
I'm so glad I didn't invest any real time or energy into this platform and I hope this post helps prevent anyone else from making that mistake

What tools and features do you use to make enclosed social media networks more tolerable to navigate?
By tools I mean anything from alternate frontends to add-ons/extensions for browsers or anything else. By features I mean any built-in features the service may provide to give you some degree of customization or control over your experience, e.g. lists/blocking/keyword filtering/etc.
Thanks in advance!
Lists in the Android app are a small but handy feature.

Mastodon, the decentralized Twitter / X alternative, is adding lists to its Android app, according to a blog post from CEO and founder Eugen Rochko. Lists are available as part of the most recent Mastodon for Android update.
In this massive update we've added search and removed friction. What's not to love?
Trialling ActivityPub and the federated model for social media and its possibilities for the BBC.

"As the social media landscape ebbs and flows, the team at BBC Research & Development are researching social technologies and exploring possibilities for the BBC. One part of our work is to establish a BBC presence in the distributed collection of social networks known as the Fediverse, a collection of social media applications all linked together by common protocols. The most common software used in this area is Mastodon, a Twitter-like social networking service with around 2 million active monthly users. We are now running an experimental BBC Mastodon server at https://social.bbc/ where you can follow some of the BBC’s social media accounts, including BBC R&D, Radio 4 and 5 Live. We hope to be able to add more accounts from other areas of the BBC at some point."
Regardless, right-wing Twitter users already hate Threads.

When Threads launched on Wednesday, numerous right-wing users shared(opens in a new tab) their dissatisfaction(opens in a new tab) with Twitter's biggest competitor — on Twitter of course — over having their accounts flagged for disinformation. As of Friday, however, it seems the warning label on accounts that reported the issue has since disappeared.
My video overview of Nostr: A simple, open protocol that enables global, decentralized, and censorship-resistant social media
Nostr is unique in that it has a global public key ID that replicates posts (notes) via relays, so it is scalable, resistant to censorship, and the user fully owns their identity profile. There are only two parts to the network, namely relays and clients, with the Nostr protocol linking them. Every post is signed, and every client validates these signatures.
In this video I explain more about Nostr is, why it is probably one of the easiest networks to get registered and going on, I compare it with some other protocols, and I demonstrate a few of the web as well as Android mobile apps. There are no servers at all needing to be chosen, and it is truly irrelevant which client app is used. I'll also explain where cryptocurrency may come in, but why you need not worry about it all, or even use it at all.

Why does the Wall Street Journal feel the need to promote itself on Twitter?
And what a topic they choose to do it too...
content moderation and human nature
Can we get content moderation to work, or is it as much of a dead end as virus scanning? Do we need to change the whole model of social instead?
I think Benedict Evans writes about a lot of really interesting stuff. Sometimes he gets right to the hearts of things. Sometimes he's wrong in important (and interesting!) ways.
This seems to me to be an example of the latter.
However, it often now seems that content moderation is a Sisyphean task, where we can certainly reduce the problem, but almost by definition cannot solve it. The internet is people: all of society is online now, and so all of society’s problems are expressed, amplified and channeled in new ways by the internet.
Fully agreed! Yes! Absolutely--technical problems are rarely just technical problems, but also social problems.
We can try to control that, but perhaps a certain level of bad behaviour on the internet and on social might just be inevitable, and we
Retroshare Peer-To-Peer Social Network has finally updated to v 0.6.6
This release took even more time than the previous ones. This is for one simple reason: we changed lots of core features of the software (e.g. token system, notifications, etc), which had us re-imp…
The changelog below explains why this release took quite a long time, as many core features were changed and updated. The previous version 0.6.5 was difficult to connect with other users, so this release is truly a big step forward, and if you were planning to test this network out, this is the best version to get going with.
