  • I haven't completely organized my thoughts on this but

The show's title is literally pluribus, as in "e pluribus, unum" or w/e the american motto is

Out of all other immune people, she is the only american and the only one that has a problem with the new world

Carol's tantrums kill millions of people and she's the only one that does it

This show seems like it's exploring the many contradictions of american thought/ideology and the psychosis it imparts on its subjects. I'd say it's just like Breaking Bad and BCS in that way. As you said with the grenade convo, Carol is dumbfounded that the hivemind would be so willing to give her dangerous weapons, but what was the status quo in america before if not that? Maybe not as extreme as handing over a nuclear weapon (not that she'd realistically be able to use it even if she did have one), but I see that as a contradiction. In that same episode, the hive mind points out Carol donated to environmental causes, yet she's set off by the city lights being turned off to conserve power and resources. There's a lot of things americans say they want for the world and themselves, but once it's realized in any form they have nothing but criticisms and complaints, as if they seek unhappiness as much as Carol herself does.

All that to say, I can not see this being about AI (and Gilligan has already said it's not himself as well).

I'd also say it's not anti-communist - in fact, a friend pointed out to me this is one of the only shows that is engaging with the ideas of socialism/communism and offering some nuanced ideas/critiques on what a world like that can look like. Capitalist critique shows are a dime a dozen at this point, but Pluribus is unique in this way.

  • WHYY DIDNT THEY END WITH SECOND SEASON, SHITS BARRELLING TOWARDS THAT SHARK

  • The "strong start" was Adama's retirement speech from the uh ... prequel/pilot episode? I forgot how it works, cause episode 1 actually starts with the aftermath of the nukes being fired.

Regardless, it gives you the false sense that it'll be an anti-imperialist/America-critical kind of show in the aftermath/midst of GWOT. And then the nukes fly and it's like that speech never happened (I still think it's a good speech tbh).

My conspiracy theory is that the shows production was captured by the NVIXM cult (a surprising amount of the actors/actressess were members, including Sharon's actress), which was probably controlled by intelligence, and that derailed any sort of progressive message the story might have ended up having.

  • Over 20 hours into Umineko, finished ep 1 and I'm done with it, can't keep going with this for another 50 hours for just these 4 episodes and then there 5 through 9 after that and then there's the answers arc, just no. I spoiled the ending for myself and I'm glad I did, it is not worth that kind of time investment and I feel angry for giving 20 hours worth of a chance now.

What am I missing about this visual novel that everyone liked?

  • Battlestar Gallactica

Don't bother, it's cringe and anyone who says otherwise has on rose-colored glasses if they haven't rewatched recently and bad tastes if they have.

    Walking Dead

Feel like I'm kinda losing it, I thought this show was well known for botched seasons. I remember the infinite shotgun memes from that scene from the first season. Personally, I watched the first season and gave it a pass after that, not worth it.

    Breaking Bad

Sorry, but your instincts are wrong on this one. It does live up to the hype. And you have to watch this to watch the spin off which somehow manages to be even better, Better Call Saul.

Andor doesn't live up to the hype

    Rage bait

As for me, it's any Trek show except for Lower Decks, which was alright I guess. I tried watching TNG, but the first season was too cringe and idc if subsequent seasons are better, it's just too cringe.

  • Over 10 hours into Umineko now (thought I was on chapter 2, jk I'm not)

Intrigue surrounding the inheritance and the siblings'+spouses trying to outmaneuver one another was kinda interesting. But I just don't feel any attachment to any of these characters except for Maria and the servants I suppose.

I was thinking the game would be massively improved if Battler was removed, but now that George, who is 23, proposed to a 16 year old maid (who is now dead with the ring still on her finger), I'm just getting fucking tired of anything related to sex or romance in this fucking game. The kids are easily the worst part, everytime it's their turn on screen, I groan. The adults being shitty people is fine, they make it interesting at least, they're supposed to be shitty. And George isn't even a kid, he's a God damn adult who stands pretty high up on the hierarchy compared to who he's proposing to - this was the same servant that was going to let Battler fucking grope her until Jessica stopped him because she believed she didn't have a choice. And this minor with no power within the family is "being given the choice" to accept George's proposal? She's an orphan whos been a maid since she was like 6 fuckin years old, what the hell? I'm not getting the vibe that the game condemns all of this either.

    POWER. DYNAMICS.

To be honest, the deaths did not make much of an impact on me. Thinking more on Shannon's death, it's pretty fucking sad (shoulda been George). But everyone else? Ehh, don't care. Also, been expecting it for a while. It is really sad in a way that absolutely no one seems to care that Gohdan died, they seem to care more that breakfast wasn't made before he went.

With these deaths, however, I'm not sure where the story goes. All that intrigue and maneuvering from before is blown out of the water now. The chief scheme guy is gone. Most unfortunately, there's a larger kid to adult ratio now, so I imagine they're all gonna get more screen time

Idk so far it's good slop, but I'm split on whether to call it a good story or not. I mostly find myself on a roller coaster ride of increasing tension and intrigue cut off by steep drops into sexual harassment and annoying dialogue.
