  • No idea if whoever authors this bot gets message replies, but in case you do: The linked article is about a restaurant fire outbreak in China, the summary about financial aid needs in Myanmar.

  • Use social media in browser only, and use keyword filters (browser plugin) to get rid of all the shit I don't want to hear about.

  • And that's exactly why I read German news only, they are paid with tax money and there's a governing body in place that ensures objectivity.

Of course there are private magazines and stuff, but as long as you stay clear of them, you're by and large good to go.

  • There are other tools, but their developers aren't publicly known. So I indeed trust into the one man show that is magisk, at least as a full time Google employee who gets his codebase reviewed in-house, there's some more trust than to a random nobody. And he does publish the code and allows for user contributed fixes on github.

  • That's only available for Pixel phones, and I don't buy from Google.

  • No, I exactly mean rooting, and it is a hard requirement for me when choosing phones.

If you know what you're doing, there is no security risk involved, since every app requesting for root access needs to be granted individually, and you can opt to do so for a limited time or permanently. Or not grant it at all, obviously.

Tools like AppOps (advanced permission management), Storage Isolation (prevent access to certain folders even if "file access" permission is granted to some app), Ice Box (keep certain apps in a permanent state of hibernation unless you explicitly launch them) are absolute core essentials.

Other apps that enable you to fully remove system apps, system level adblockers, VPN sharing etc. might be optional, and there are no-root workarounds, but they all come with serious limitations.

  • And people wonder why I keep rooting my Android phones.

Without advanced permission denial and file access restrictions, phones will spy on anything and anyone.

  • Who the fuck targets Filipinos of all people?! Not line any act of terrorism is in any means justified, but those are some of the nicest people on the planet. What a bloody scumbag.

  • Frag mal die Kollegen, die sich nachts an fahrende ZĂŒge kleben...

  • There was a withdrawal of almost 1M in 2023, and the company's entire equity is basically cash. What you don't find in the balance sheet are salaries paid, which would be to himself alone. The 22k in earnings from investments is merely interest on top.

  • Sync for reddit grossed over 2 million British pounds - and that's current account balances, I didn't check withdrawals over time. See for yourself, company filings for UK Ltd.'s are public.

    https://find-and-update.company-information.service.gov.uk/company/08807876

So you might consider sync for Lemmy a passion project since it's not exactly cashing in on the same level, no doubt, but it's a far cry from a lone nerd trying to make ends meet.

  • Permanently Deleted

  • You're starting out on a questionable statement there:

Religions are constructs created by humans

According to some scriptures, religion and religious practices are deity-given, and exactly not human constructs.

  • Permanently Deleted

  • She absolutely is able to consent. That's what the OP means with 'puritanical', I guess. In the majority of countries worldwide the age of consent is 16; the US are one of the minority countries where it's 18.

  • NatĂŒrliche Auslese, dem Genpool gefĂ€llt's.

  • You never asked a question, you posted the content of a terminal.

  • Hmm... Clockwork and fluorescent arms?

  • No clue tbh, I've kinda reached all my savings goals. Can buy a house outright when the time comes to settle down (not so easy, not even sure about the country let alone cityat this point), and still got enough to live a relaxed life. Guess I'll just top up the retirement fund.

  • Incorrect, according to German legislation, weapons may be used to protect life and prevent harm. Courts have recurrently ruled that an attacker with a knife approaching the police or innocent bystanders are considered beyond stoppable if they are in immediate reach of a potential victim (which has been said to be in a range of 6 meters and below).

What needs to be established now is whether the cop used unnecessary lethal force, since the guy has been hit 4 times (3 direct hits, once grazed), and at least one shot was from behind.

Windows 10 shows Linkedin Learning Ads on Login Screen

    cross-posted from: https://infosec.pub/post/14206569

    Hi all,

First off: Can't switch to Linux, Windows is a work requirement. Please spare me.

With that out of the way, here's my problem:

Since 2-3 days I've been seeing ads disguised as a minimized video player popup on my Windows 10 Login Screen

    .

Initially I thought I might have been watching something on youtube and forgot to close the tab and it autoplayed in the background until reaching this stuff by chance; but that turned out not to be the case (I'm also using Firefox exclusively, which I thought wouldn't integrate with Windows, but I wasn't 100% sure on that end).

I tried to research this a bit, but the only similar case I found was in an old reddit thread saying that some Windows update installed the LinkedIn

    Dear all,

Since feddit.de has fallen into disrepair by its administrations, some of the fine folks over here have started feddit.org as a second home.

Like most (all?) feddit.de communities, we have now launched !germany@feddit.org (or alternatively https://feddit.org/c/germany, if your instance hasn't federated the community yet) to continue talking about all things Germany, in English.

Welcome to join us over there!

    Childfree Chatter

    Hi all,

As our community is still small and not overly active, I thought instead of trying to have a weekly or monthly chatter thread up as a sticky, we could try a perpetual one and see what happens.

So anything you feel doesn't warrant a post of its own, just put it here.

    Cheers and take care!

    Current account recovery best practices?

    Hi all,

Need to pick your brains for a bit regarding best practices for handling of account recovery issues while traveling.

Premise would be that my phone gets lost or stolen, and I may not have easy access to my laptop either, and being in a foreign country I couldn't easily get a copy of the original SIM to restore via OTP.

Consequently, I also don't really love the idea of using some password manager with a master password and no F2A.

Under those circumstances, what would you consider the best way forward to ensure accessibility without crippling myself in the process?

The only thing I can come up with is a random subdomain on one of my domains, with random username and random password, where I store an encrypted container containing txt-files. Maybe even further obscured with a random cypher (all numbers / letters shifted x positions to the right or something).

But there's gotta be other use-cases out there, so I was wondering what you are using?

    Ideally something that does

Looks like Facebook is following youtube with anti-adblock measures.

I don't really use facebook anymore so couldn't care less; but so happened to log in today to change my password and saw this on my front page.
