  • I have probably 5 close friends but really we only ever see each other on a yearly camp trip my brother organizes, even then one or two of us doesn't go so we are hardly all together at one time.

    I never really thought about it since I'm busy most of the time commuting and working during the week and spend the weekends with my wife.

    But recently I joined the local community emergency response team and that seemed like a good way to meet people, random people and a lot of firefighters and medics etc from around town which are always doing activites for the public plus free emergency gear

  • I guess if they know that the user only connects to one server that has a plex pass then they can filter down the email, the thing that keeps me from trying to move to jellyfin yet is that most of my users use multiple servers as a lot of my friends host plex so we cross share to get more coverage

  • the spell making and the potions is what extended the game play for me so much, being able to stack speed boosts on enemies so they could run off a cliff and die or being able to jump out of a city by parkouring out all without any mods on the 360

    We sure do like our Fungi

    cross-posted from: https://lemmy.ml/post/29037842

    I was introduced yesterday to the FIMS hypothesis by PBS Eons.

    The Fungal-Infection-Mammalian-Selection (hey that ryhmes!) hypothesis asks the question of why reptiles didn't bounce back as much as mammals did after the asteroid K/Pg extinction event.

    After all, they need less energy than mammals as cold-blooded creatures, and they produce way way more offspring than mammals.

    One theory is fungi: there was an explosion in fungal activity after the asteroid due to the now dark and dingy hellhole the Earth became, and a ton of fungal spores were floating around at the time, as seen in geological record.

    Apparently fungal infections are not that deadly to mammals (it just irritates us), but were disastrous for reptiles. Plus us mammals had a new food source in the absence of plants and meat.

    There's no conclusive proof, stil

    Self hosting Mastodon - local domain web domain troubles

    Hello everyone I recently got mastodon running on my server and everything seems to be running fine.

    the trouble I'm having now though is with my username being shown differently on different remote instances.
    I set my local domain to example.com
    and my web domain to mastodon.example.com
    following the guide from mastodon
    masto-docs

    it mentions adding this to the nginx of example.com

     undefined

    location /.well-known/webfinger {
      add_header Access-Control-Allow-Origin '*';
      return 301 https://mastodon.example.com$request_uri;
    }

    so I did that and it seems to be working as when I search my username from another mastodon instance my user shows up how I expect user@example.com

    but when I search for my user on pixelfed it shows up as user@mastodon.example.com

    Im using nginx proxy manager instead of nginx so maybe I added the webfinger to the wrong place? also from searching around online there might be other

    YSK the updated steering wheel hand placement

    In the past drivers were taught to keep their hands at 10 o'clock and 2 o'clock. Now it is advised to hold the steering wheel differently depending on your steering technique

    Hand-to-Hand Steering: When using this method, your left hand grasps the wheel between 7 and 8 o’clock, and your right hand between 4 and 5 o’clock.

    these changes were caused by the inclusion of airbags and steering wheels becoming smaller

    it is also advised to not wrap your thumb around the steering wheel but instead keep it flush to the face of the steering wheel, because if you are in an accident and the air bag is deployed your thumb being wrapped can cause injury

    ZFS pools

    Hi all, so I have about 6 nvme drives in my server, I use them in pairs for download cache, appdata, and vm's. Would there be a benefit or would it act worse if I combined all 6 drives into one ZFS pool to have the bitrot protection on my VM drives, and the increased storage space.
