  • Indeed, and losing plus being unable to accept that you are a loser is what seems to drive them. I have no doubt he would fully enjoy dictatorship if he were able to successfully obtain it but let's be real, there are plenty of stories of leaders who want to be dictators and who try and fail. Napoleon is a great example. Although I guess it depends what you consider failure at fascism... Is there a set amount of time one has to control a nation? Personally I would say success is gaining power over a nation and remaining in power until you die and then successfully passing rule to your designated heir. That would mean Napoleon, Hitler, Saddam... all failures. Successful dictators? The Kim family. Stalin. Castro. Tons and tons of others, not going for an exhaustive list here. Another measure of success I suppose is how much harm does the dictator cause while in power? By that measure, Hitler would be a dictator and Trump I guess would be too. I think it all comes down to how can we mitigate the damage while he's here, get him out as quickly as possible and then endure his ideology does not persist after he's gone. We're not doing so great on the first two but I am pretty confident the third will be easy because he is self-destructing spectacularly right now.

  • They can certainly keep trying loopholes and no question he has been allowed to get away with way more than any citizen, let alone president, should. But this is 'Better Call Saul' style lawfare, it seems very clever and kind of shocking that he can get away with it but gravity always kicks in eventually. His former biographer Michael Wolff has spent a shitload of time w him and I think correctly has said Trump is not some kind of evil genius, he's not Hitler he is a Hitler FAN, and thus, quite stupid and quite crazy. He is chaos. And while you can get by on that for a little while, eventually it collapsed and everyone associated with him ends up dragged into the abyss. It's possible he may walk away or pass away or whatever without consequences but make no mistake... He is and always has been, a deeply damaged and mentally ill person who cannot help breaking everything he touches. This guy burned away his dad's fortune, self destructed a reality TV dynasty, served as president and STILL managed to become the first president to be charged w a felony and then he ran on exposing a pedophile network that HE WAS INVOLVED IN. Do the math man, apples still fall from trees and Trump ain't magical. We may be about to witness the most spectacular and public failure in human history.

  • Hey man even John Gotti eventually faced the music

  • I mean, he barely won, I wouldn't call that a landslide election. And Americans have been standing up left right and center all while still working our jobs and raising our kids... I'd call that pretty badass and I am still proud of us despite our shortcomings

  • Ya but that's not something to gloss over. A true dictator would never lose. That one guy called him a pedophile protector straight to his face lol and wasn't even fired So ya, my money is democracy outlives this fat sack of crap

  • Lightning rarely strikes twice and even John Gotti eventually went down. Whether he faces the consequences he DESERVES that's another story even prison is too nice for that piece of shit.. Keep in mind too, Trump CLEARLY has a severe personality disorder, I doubt he has been happy a single day in his life because ppl like that aren't capable of feeling happiness or love so, either way, he will die a very unhappy man, that I can guarantee you. Only question is whether we, the people he has harmed, get the justice we deserve. We shall see.

  • Hah! Good luck with that... He loses in court like 90% of the time. He's going to end up like the dude in South Korea.

  • Already on it! They can come after me for it, fuck these criminals r not getting a dime from me to build concentration camps

  • Well hopefully those planning curriculums learn from this. Until then, computers at school and books at home. Turning luddite home schooling is not gonna help

  • Disgrace

  • Idk man I mean theft was almost certainly part of the process as was annihilating win-win programs that were mandated by congressional act and that most Americans would probably support if they actually took a second to understand them. So to that effect, sure they achieved those goals. But I do not for a second buy that an egomaniac like Musk was happy about walking away without anything even close to his professed goal. Occams razor? He thought all government workers are stupid and he would walk in there and 'show em how it's done' he would have loved to have that dashboard show a trillion in cuts and everything to be working better in his opinion plus those other goals, etc. instead he walked off with a black eye and everyone laughing at him behind his back. That gives me no comfort because the damage was so bad and he will never admit he f'ed everything up but it was a major self own by Trump admin. That first 100 days was their chance to actually overthrow the govt and the original plan for Russ Vought to dismantle the beurocracy. Musk handling instead caused so much chaos is probably saved our country.

  • Ya i mean i've been off social media and youtube for years and still get targeted advertising until i started using proactive privacy measures. So i would not bet against you.

I think you're probably right too. A lot of this shit sounds scary but as we can see, these tech overlords are exceptionally well-funded but equally delusional about what they can accomplish.

  • One, complex systems don't handle disruption well and chaos creates voids for bad actors.

Two, given what we're seeing now, I don't even think disruption at scale is possible. Far more likely that you'll just hurt people and get nothing done.

Three, small change over time is far more difficult than radical, drastic change in a short period of time. And the more difficult way is usually the right way.

  • Fuck these people

  • Even tho i consider myself a progressive I think we can all admit that drastic swings in either direction cause chaos and disruption in life and thus skepticism on the part of moderates. I would vigorously support a progressive agenda with some counterbalancing by a more moderate dem. Biden was actually the most progressive president we've ever had he was just way too old, hounded by corporate interests and made that huge mistake at the end by letting advisors control him.

  • It's hard to see how this tech becomes ubiquitous beyond as a Google replacement (which is dangerous enough as it is). ML has plenty of worthy and profitable applications but the whole LLM thing being forced into our daily lives... Not happening. Hard to justify paying more than $10 a month for LLM assistant and w ppl already skeptical of enshitification at a visceral level, I don't think ppl will tolerate any ads or capitalist Jedi mind tricks

  • Ya i dont want to go all Alex Jones on this but seems the same number of people would have to be 'in on it' for either a spiriting away or a murder. Paperwork can be falsified. Ghislaines can be tricked. I looked into where Epstein is buried and given his faith there would have been strict burial preps that require certain groups to participate but there are no records they did. Strangely enough his gravesite is unknown, although there are probably more practical reasons for that...

Not saying I think there's any THERE there just that's where i go first rather than murder

  • Agreed, I've always followed the rule of if i'm gonna say anything, pretend everyone i know is in the same room, would I still say that thing and be proud of it?

Honestly the more of us who are generally sane ppl who contribute to society they fuck with, the better because it just makes them look rediculous.

That said, if I'm about to get punched in the face, I'd prefer to know if its coming so I can prepare.

  • Honestly, him still being alive and living free somewhere seems much more plausible than secret prison murder

  • Normally I would urge caution but nah fuck that, there's no way this shit isn't popping

  • Privacy @lemmy.ml
