  • met up with a family member once who was wearing them and i immediately put on a face mask.

  • There are a lot of different versions, just like with any mythology, and things lost in translation. I think it's honestly down to your preference. I prefer NIV, but that's just me. I cannot stand the King James.

  • sounds like a blog. you could try WordPress and use their Reader section to follow other Wordpress blogs. there's also writefreely and write.as

  • Agreed, school curriculums are currently designed so teachers have to teach to a test, and are evaluated on how their students score in these standardized tests, so there's no time to actually dive deep into things or engender a curiosity in reading deeply for pleasure.

Like in this article that explains how high school students these days aren't even assigned a whole book to read like back in my days, just excerpts to analyze and target specific curriculum standards. It's so sad and disheartening, they don't even get time to finish or appreciate a whole book, just a piece of it out of context. And just the barrage of short stories they don't even get to fully digest before they have to move on to the next one.

And then there's the rise of digital reading and its effect on comprehension and reading for pleasure. And the rise of book bans driving kids away from the library. It all paints a very depressing picture.

  • The article is counting news and magazines but not social posts. They actually say social posts are part of problem.

  • Recently started reading The Lives of Others by Neel Mukherjee. Trying to read authors from all around the world and this is my India book. Wild family saga that gets into history, traditional vs modern culture and religion, class politics. Really enjoying it so far.

Also listening to the audiobook of The Scar by China Miéville.

  • I think others have suggested this, but you could use a site like Sparknotes if you need help. There might even be some youtube videos out there that help clarify things.

  • can confirm it goes downhill. haven't seen the show but the first book is pretty good. the second was way less interesting to me and made me not want to bother with the third. stopped caring about what happens to the characters.
