  • I don't like it. They charge a monthly fee and a percentage of sales. They're also trying to become like a platform for online shopping, like they're trying to muscle in on becoming a monopoly.

And they seem pretty content with making it easy to start your own AI generated dropshipping store. They're trying to sell the dream so they can collect that subscription money. Starting a store is only the first step, not the final destination.

  • I can see why everyone just uses Shopify for online stores these days. I went with Woocommerce because it's free, but setting up variable items like clothes with different sizes is such a headache.

It's a manual process either way. You either go into every product and set up the variations yourself, or you upload one CSV, have to turn on product variations for each product individually, then upload a second CSV with all the variations.

  • I just figured I'd keep it consistent. The HP SSD I'm looking at is at least a known brand and a bit faster for just a bit more.

The current laptop is filing up, but that's from trying to get old games running on it through WINE and not being partitioned properly because I left Windows on there. I could back everything up to the new laptop and do a clean sweep of the old one.

  • There's plenty of free space on there at the moment because it just has work stuff.

It might replace my current laptop because it can get pretty slow at times, but weirdly it's only on the internet, and specifically sites like Google Maps.

I don't have a NAS set up yet. Definitely on my list of things to do, I should just buy one because I've had trouble getting the desktop to work as remote storage.

  • I'm going to buy my old laptop off work but it needs a new SSD.

I don't want to spend too much on a replacement SSD, but I need to balance speed and capacity.

There's probably no point looking on the second hand market as SSDs just wear out and I'd be buying one with a shorter shelf life vs going new

  • I received access to work's marketing automation platform today. Wow, it looks so much nicer than Marketing Cloud. I almost feel like it can't be as powerful because it's so easy to use, but I know that's not the case.

I'm looking forward to getting stuck into this program and learning it inside out. I feel like I'll be able to do so much with it since it's so easy to use. Just sending an email in Marketing Cloud felt like such a battle, so this should be a dream by comparison.

  • I filled up at one of the local petrol stations today. They still have pump attendants and are the only place I've seen do it.

It's great they still have those roles. It's often high school kids and is a chance for them to start working without going to one of the fast food places. There needs to be more actual first steps on the career ladder jobs like that around.

  • My tongue has been hurting like a sore has grown from the tip to across the edges, some of the top, and the roof of my mouth somehow.

Hot food and drink is such a pain, I could kill for an iced coffee right now

  • I thought of a fun idea for the trip back: girlfriend takes the train up to Shepparton, we meet her there when we get there, do the handover and the boys can take the train to Donnybrook where I'll meet up with them to finish the trip back.

They get to see mum again, ride a train, and they're not strapped down for the last leg of the ride

  • Yep, the ol' secret Northcote Library carpark. Super limited but a godsend because it's so much more convenient.

If you're just dropping off books you could swing down to Fairfield. You can return books to any Library in the network

Why Is Child Care So Expensive? - Some More News

After the Four Corners episode, Some More News released this in the same week.

Whilst it's no surprise childcare is a mess in the States, at least we're not the only country where it's so bad.

Where are the best places to look for childcare roles?

My girlfriend has recently finished her Graduate Diploma in Childcare and is looking to become an ECT.

Is Seek the best option? I also found an aggregator page on the Victorian Department of Education and Training's website.

Are there other places good for childcare roles? Is contacting a centre you want to work for a good strategy?

Who is Australia's gender neutral bathroom?

You know how people make jokes about Thatcher and Regan's graves being gender neutral bathrooms?

Who do you think qualifies, or will qualify, for that title here in Australia?
