  • It has mostly to do with water temperatures. Tropical cyclones need at least 27°C. Then, tjey can't form too close to the equator due to coriolis force. Some addittional factors play a role, that leave these areas.

Note: It shows December temperatures, meaning that the northern hemisphere oceans would be warmer in actual hurricane season.

  • Peertube is the obvious candidate, but I'm not sold on the content.

I use nebula.tv, many of the creators I like are there too. You pay somerhing, but their business model is not too bad imho.

Floatplane is somewhat similar, but LMG is involved, which I don't love.

  • I could see it the other way. I wanted to build a pauper deck since some time, but going through my bulk is just too painful. This way I would at least know which cards I have. Finding them is another story though... But generally having a nice overview of your collection without having to manually add each card would be cool

    Cookware for vegan meals

I have a stainless steel pan which works great to fry most veggies, but I can't manage to cook tofu, tempeh and meat alternatives in it. They just stick too much, no matter how much oil and patience I try. Then I have a non-stick pan which is kinda old and it needs to be replaced.

What do you use? I think about getting a cast iron or carbon steel pan, but I don't know how well it will work and if it's worth it...

  • The mistrust is partially warranted in my opinion. There are some important critiques in the peer review, which could not be resolved with the current study. It is not a bad study in any way, but it is limited by many factors and I wouldn't assume findings as straight up facts, but the basis for further research with blinded placebo-controlled clinical studies with inclusion of confounding factors.

Also this is way out of my scientific comfort zone, but just some thoughts.

  • I don't know much about cats but this seems reasonable: https://cats.com/vegan-cat-food

Vegan cat food isn’t natural. It’s not normal. Cats will always want to kill and eat other animals. And yet—our cats aren’t natural.

Dr. Jennifer Coates, says “While it may be possible for a veterinary nutritionist to design a “vegan” recipe for cats that wouldn’t lead to disease, it would have to contain large amounts of nutritional supplements, some of which would probably have animal origins, raising the question of whether that diet would truly be vegan. Even more importantly, the goal in feeding pets is not simply to avoid diet-related illness but to promote optimal health and wellbeing. I sincerely doubt this is possible with vegan cat food.”

    should we ban social media?

While watching the video I couldn't stop thinking about the fediverse. It's basically self-organized social-media. While it is far from perfect it is so much better than the corporate alternative in terms of relevant content. I'm just sad that basically nobody I know personally actually uses the fediverse...

    Solarpunk and web3

Note: I might just be uneducated on the subject.

When I read about web3 with blockchains, smart contracts and dapps, all sounds very promising. But once you look for any real world applications it is just some obscure things that kind of only exist to support the decentralized system. I guess that makes sense, but are there any actual real world uses for that? Like day-to-day things that make a persons life easier, not harder?

    I love the new community!

I created a website to swap plants, however it currently only works in Switzerland really (due to zipcode locaiton lookup). But I would like to extend it to more countries, at least in Europe. Feel free to have a look at https://pflaenz.li/ and test/use it for yourself!

It is open source and you can contribute and look at the code on https://git.thisfro.ch/pflaenz.li/pflaenz.li

Also any feedback is very welcome! <3

Looking for an electric water kettle

My current water kettle leaks more by the day. It is mostly stainless steel, but the few plastic parts are corroded and lead to leaking.

Do you have recommendations for fully stainless steel or similar kettles that are basically not able to break?

I was looking at this: https://www.digitec.ch/de/s1/product/xiaomi-wasserkocher-170-l-wasserkocher-23599517

But I don't really trust xiaomi to make quality consumer products

    Fix leaking kettle

    Hi all

I have an electric kettle I use to boil water often. I bought is because it is stainless steel, except for the indicator to see the water level. Of course this plastic part is now leaking...

Does anyone have an idea how to fix it? My idea would be to fill it with silicone, but not sure if that is safe for use with foods
