  • Sorry if it came across like I was implying that you should have commented there first – that was definitely not my intention! I actually considered making a post on my instance about it too, because I know some people primarily browse local stuff and would likely miss a post from another instance.

I just wanted to let you know it wasn't just you and maybe encourage you to comment there, too, in the hope that more of us mentioning in each post that we're having this problem might help lead to clues and a fix. 🙂

  • I just moments ago commented about this on another post – it's not just you and not just lemmy.ml

  • Strangely enough, this has been happening to me when visiting hexbear.net through Firefox. (I haven't tried other instances or browsers.) It hasn't annoyed me enough (yet!) to look into it, but since you mentioned it, I wanted to chime in and say it's not just you.

Edit: I saw this last night as I was falling asleep and didn't reply then, and when I went looking for the post this morning to respond, I found one by another user on another instance with the same problem.

  • Since I returned from my visit, I have been trying to place my experiences there into a larger context. The reality on the ground is so devastating, and the future appears so bleak, that I have allowed myself to indulge in some counter-factual history and to entertain some hopeful speculations about a different future. I ask myself, what would have happened had the newly created state of Israel fulfilled its commitment to enact a constitution based on its Declaration of Independence? That same declaration which stated that Israel “will be based on freedom, justice and peace as envisaged by the prophets of Israel; it will ensure complete equality of social and political rights to all its inhabitants irrespective of religion, race or sex; it will guarantee freedom of religion, conscience, language, education and culture; it will safeguard the Holy Places of all religions; and it will be faithful to the principles of the Charter of the United Nations”.

    this was a devastating read

  • wouldn't it be simpler, easier, and less expensive to just do socialism

Discover Ohio’s 2,000-year-old archeological wonder, now a World Heritage site

    Some highlights:

The earthworks, an archipelago of eight sites sprinkled through central and southwestern Ohio, were built 1,600 and 2,000 years ago by the Hopewell tradition, a sophisticated network of Native American cultures that extended from southern Canada to Florida.

The earthworks are the largest set of geometric earthen enclosures in the world, many extending for hundreds of feet in the shape of circles, squares, or animals. Some are built in alignment with the movements of the sun and moon.

    ...

The eight sites include the Great Circle and Octagon Earthworks in Licking County, the Fort Ancient Earthworks in Warren County, and the Mound City Group, Hopewell Mound Group, Hopeton Earthworks, Seip Earthworks, and High Bank Works in Ross County.

    ...

As white settlers moved into Ohio after the Revolutionary War, many destroyed parts of the earthworks. Some plowed mounds under to plant crops; other earthworks were destroyed by railroads or canals built through them.

    Good morning, Ohio

Snowy sunrises are my favorite. 🤩

Wishing you all quiet moments of magic, surprised laughter, and snuggly comfort time! ❤️ Happy Snowy Friday.

  • I have absolutely no hope for them. But, they are trying some new things - my husband and I both got text messages last week from them asking us if we'd consider running for local office.

  • I think anybody over 40 playing rock on stage is cringey

did you know that in addition to continuing hobbies and pastimes they did as a young person, sometimes old people fuck??

    :the-more-you-know:

  • I have been and mostly enjoyed it, but what I don't enjoy is debate and paternalistic questioning of my personal agency, so I avoid engaging on this topic.

  • Behold the House of Waffles

The deathless diner nesting in dreams

Turn your back to the horrors, House, House

Turn your front to me, House, House

  • I did not understand orgasms or realize I wasn't having them with my partners until I finally did have one. 😂 I genuinely didn't understand that it could feel that good until it did.

Another win for abstinence-based sex ed in rural America!

  • lol no it can't

It's really, really, really going to suck to lose that resource when troubleshooting weird hardware and software issues, but that seems inevitable at this point. He really seems to be trying to figure out the stupidest way to kill the utility of the site in the name of profit.

  • I have taken responsibility already before the Colorado bar, who censured me

Is that all, or is it just a necessary step on the way to disbarment?

  • this is my cue to show them the million task lists and corresponding calendar appointments with 87 notifications each

  • Yes, it is cringe to take pictures of all Trump Trucks.

Idk if this is a great example of that cringe, though, because the side panel on this truck is pretty funny. I would have taken a picture myself to show family and friends.

Kinda hilarious to think about this person making these decals themself or getting someone they know with a Cricut to cut these out and apply them. I like to think a tantrum ensued when the slant started to become obvious on the side panel, especially considering how well the tailgate came out. Maybe that's the origin story of the dent by the gas filler door? Peels off the transfer tape, screams "FUCK!!" and punches own truck? 😂

  • I know the utility and validity of IQ tests are highly questionable, and fash gonna fash.

But I've seen this posted a couple times and it keeps making me wonder - isn't it much more likely that the causes of any negative cognitive effects the Palestinians are suffering are malnutrition, CPTSD, and disrupted education?

  • Ignoring for a moment the right of an occupied people to resist their oppression: "Hamas" does not include all Palestinians or all residents of Gaza. There are innocent civilians in Gaza, and collective punishment is against international law.

But back to that right: could you please point to an example of an oppressed people successfully freeing themselves non-violently?

  • Any thoughts on the decades of increasing oppression the Palestinian people have suffered or are you just pretending this uprising is happening in a vacuum?

What is the permissible amount of violence with which to respond to attempted genocide?

    I hate to be callous

    Then don't be?

  • You did a truly excellent job of answering the question thoroughly! Thanks for putting in so much effort, I bet this will be really helpful. ❤️

The Rutters of Athens County: An Appalachian school district’s daring experiment in economic integration.

This is pretty long, but I found it engrossing and very moving.
