  • I'm not saying people buy more bread, I'm saying the baker ups his prices for a single loaf and blames it on inflation.

The milk producer follows suit, citing the same reasons, as do the video game publishers. For evidence of this, look at the price gouging that all retailers did in recent years for absolutely no good justification.

But civilized countries already have public options to supply these items at cost :public water, public transport, food stamps.

This is the one saving factor I can see. Having some kind of free or subsidized alternative that industry simply cannot complete with, and forces them to reduce their prices. God I wish this was more prevalent.

Public water isn't a thing in the UK. It looks like it is from the outside, but it's all monopoly owned to the entity in your area.

  • they're good in theory, in practice they're a bit disappointing and really greasy

  • The whole social credit thing sounds like something that could easily be taken away depending on your political beliefs

  • Agreed, but sounds more like socialism with authoritarian overtones. I don't see why we'd need UBI

  • Completely agree. The people I found online in those early days were just random people without any motive or incentive to sell me on an ideology. There was a trust back then, because opinions weren't really worth anything and no one could access your wallet.

Finding that some community now is a total minefield for users, young or old. So much of the internet has been gamified for a profit/scam at any cost.

I wish that kids could just connect with other random kids across the world like I did, but I think those days are likely done.

  • I love vegan food (the ice cream/cake scene alone is amazing), but it's usually not discounted sadly

  • BirdFS is a pretty efficient file system, in the sense that it retrieves items from an infinite disk that you didn't even know you wanted. The read speed is several times a day, and the write speed I'm still currently waiting on a metric there

  • I wish there were another way, but I just don't have that much faith in my fellow man to do the right thing if a decent anarchy took place. I suppose I prefer an economy where the power is concentrated on elected officials.

As long as those officials can be held accountable, or have extremely fixed terms, then maybe that's a model that can function

  • oh that's decent

invites you to the caveman inner-circle

  • Right, that makes sense. Some kind of guarantee needs to be given that the bottom base won't just be raised again.

  • I go to the shop, buy a mini pork pie they have on discount, take it back home and microwave it for 45 seconds. That's my sandwich, and I love it

  • Google Pixel 4a users looking at their phones now

  • I developed an inner life, it was the only peace I could find from the daily assault that was my outer life. Sure in the past it was more visible habits like reading a book, but letting kids have some autonomy over their lives is important I feel

How many of you have nice parents that listen?

Parents you can tell anything to and be heard without judgement, or a list of all your failings in life.

Parents you're not afraid to tell that you tried for something, just in case you fail and it will be used against you for the rest of your life?

Just to clarify, I love my parents and know they love me back, but 10 minutes is literally the limit of co-existence

Weird bug relating to messages that have nothing to do with me

I do not know these people, and they appear to be messaging each other. For some reason their messages appear when I do:

    Thoughts on Ladytron?

Their lyrics aren't particularly deep, the vocals aren't exactly showing a wide range of pitch or even emotion, originality between songs is mostly lacking, and though the backing is pretty boss, the main melodies are on the verge of being nursery rhymes....

... and yet I adore this band, with their smooth and entrancing synth, simple lyrics sung with Helen Marnie's silky enticing northern/scottish accent.

I can't shake the idea that I'm listening to low quality barely thought out music, but I also can't shake the idea that anyone's trying to sell me on them either.

They just put out these WYHIWYG songs, and there's this sense of raw honesty to their bleak and bland style that really jams with me.

Music without pretense, subtext, or reference. Just music. I love it.

    I regret getting a Keychron Q1

    Pros:

    • The clickety clack is creamy as hell
    • The dial/knob is very useful already
    • I really like the LED effects when I'm typing.
    • The packaging was superb and it just generally looks amazing

    Cons:

    • Shipping (unrelated to keyboard):
      • it took 3 weeks to get here
    • Keys / Spacebar
      • It's quite a high profile position and I find myself double-hitting the spacebar often which appears to have a hare-trigger
      • The spacebar is needlessly long, and my thumb can't quite reach the Alt or Win key without contorting my hand.
      • On my laptop, the spacebar begins at C and ends at M. Here it starts at X and ends at ,
    • Customization
      • Modifying it in Linux is proving to be painful.
        • The qmk cli requires a full reflash, but no easy way to set macros
        • VIA has easy macros, but has no cli just a shitty Electron app that requires you to set your keyboard permissions to World Accessible for chrome to detect it (which is creepy).
