  • Great name though :-)

  • So my train of thought was something like: tofu bacon… no, still kinda wrong… hey how come no weird edgy vegan brand is marketing “long pig.”

  • Nice!

  • That’s great, I didn’t even know that was a service you could get. I remember being really disappointed when I realized that a SIMM would not actually fit in one of my 386s ISA slots 😅

  • It was such a cool time for CPUs. Going up a generation was like getting a supercomputer. And Intel had those cartridge CPUs…

  • Honestly it still feels like home. Because I was kind of a moron and figured it would mean less to figure out, I registered darkstar.org (the default domain Slackware came set up with).

I few years later I actually emailed Patrick Volkerding about something and he mentioned it… I felt this strange mix of pride and shame ;-)

  • Welcome to Lemmy stranger.

Slackware back in the early 90s on a Compaq 386/SX20 💾

  • Watching something compiling is kinda like the reward for getting it to compile in the first place…

  • I still use an old 6x8 wireless Wacom tablet. It’s my 3rd Wacom tablet… it takes a bit of tweaking all the settings, but their software is great.

I didn’t discover that there are about 10 different nibs stored inside the pen cup for years.

I love Affinity Designer for vector work. The rope stabilizer and line editing tools are great.

  • Zen

  • Yeah, but mescaline is such a slippery slope.

  • burrito?

  • If anyone that works at chipotle is watching this is the correct way to make a burrito.

Do NOT put each ingredient one after the other… that’s just a kebab without the stick.

  • Take 2 Ambien, and a lorazepam and wait for the walrus to tell me what to do.

  • It’s nice to know there’s like 5 of us 🤣

  • Dead people

  • Nope. No siblings mentioned.

  • Dead people

  • Any idea if Mike and Matt Berry are related?

  • Don’t have to wait forever for your bread to rise!

  • They were great, probably put most of their profits into running a very fast FTP site.

  • Yeah… I got a bit heated.

There’s seemingly a longstanding issue where your tab grouping gets lost on an update, which apparently needs to be fixed by the FF devs… and I was getting harassed to update FF after ignoring the prompt yesterday (which ever yesterday that was)…

I do feel for them on the Ai point. Seems like half the folks can’t live without it and the other half think it’s the harbinger of doom for mankind. I can’t remember anything quite this divisive happening before… maybe Java, but that discussion was largely confined to the halls of academia.

  • As long as you’re doing it in a VM might as well try the MacOS version. IIRC the OS screen scaling and apples requirements that everything have vector or MIB mapped icons makes for a much nicer experience.

I don’t know if it works on a VM… just fondly remember using the apps on my MacBook 😅

    Siri getting dumber lately?

Anyone notice siri no longer recognizes common foreign idoms anymore? Either in TTS or Ask Siri… The only concrete example I have is recognizing “Croque Monsieur” since my love for hot ham sandwiches has spanned the ages… but I feel like there’s something more nefarious at work here.

It feels like used to be able to ask for a info about random foreign words and it would at least trigger a web search for something phonetically similar, which would often get me the translation I was after. But lately* the TTS engine is militantly transforming everything into English. Obviously this is more subtle and open to other interpretations, but for example I just asked her what “hikikomori” were which got interpreted as “Hickam Morty,” with top hits for the show Rick and Morty.

Not sure if I just haven’t noticed the standard disclaimer before or if it’s a new “feature” 😬
