OBITUARY | Peter Taaffe – International Trotskyist Theoretician and Fighter for Socialism
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Peter Taaffe, who after a long illness died on 23 April 2025. The loss of Peter is a big blow to the working class movement and Trotskyism internationally. Since becoming active in the revolutionary movement in 1960, Peter made an indispensable contribution, both theoretically and practically in the hard graft necessary to build a revolutionary party and international. Peter was a leading member of the International Secretariat of the Committee for a Workers’ International (CWI), Political Secretary of the Socialist Party in England & Wales, and for many years its General Secretary.
Characteristically, Peter fought a determined battle against numerous illnesses in recent years which allowed him to enjoy his final years a little longer. On behalf of the CWI throughout the world and the Socialist Party in England & Wales, we send our heartfelt condolences to Peter’s wife Linda, daughters Nancy and Katie, his grandchildren and

I tend to keep deterministic idea out as they seem harmful but I would love to further read into this, so if you have links send them my way
A lot of therapy is about acceptance, which our current society makes a boggy man from mental illness especially NPD and BPD which doesn't help the matter so in essence most therapy is self correcting with guidance.
But how ever we will frame it, in a classless society people with NPD, or a general lack of empathy will get the help they need.
And we should seek to create a society where these people can self correct. Become empathetic.

What has he got to worry about, even if his stocks plunged to 0 he would still have a better retirement then the rest of us. Capitalism is a sickness even the capitalist are turned mentally ill by the system.
The one with the husband having doubts about his partners infidelity had me feeling sick, not something we need promoted in our media especially when his doubts turned true which could imbolden abusive partners.
The Boys. First season had raw charm with some cool punk tracks, then season two sterilised it and it seemed to become another day time TV show. Had a similar experience with Black Mirror once that got the American/Hollywood treatment. Always Sunny lost its charm when the gang went to Ireland. Aweful end to what was otherwise a good series. But I mostly dislike American TV.
For that I would go the route of any mini pc with ddwrt's development and an e-ink screen. More io, more affordable and much easier to develop on!
Its running an older version of android, 4.4 KitKat and its massively stripped down with system apps. Keeps in lean, but fully functional. As a tinkerer and an enjoyer of digital books, this scratches an itch which jailbreaking didn't.
I used the white winter jailbreak, then (guide)Installing android on your (aging) kindle e-reader
Read the PDF to get I good understanding of the processes involved. Also one of the tools is in Chinese but once a list of text is shown press 8, I saw someone in the thread pressed something else and bricked they're Kindle, but its all covered in the PDF guide.
I was pretty content with that too but then with one of the updates I had Amazon asking for registration and network connection every time I powered on. That and defaulting to store screen instead of my library. When I first got the pw3 this wasn't an issue.
I would recommend the white winter jailbreak.
I don't have gaps on my kindle. And even has limited system apps as it needs to be light for the hardware
If I had to buy an ereader I would buy something that is native android but my pw3 had been passed to me from my grandmother, which I cherish the device but I care deeply about privacy and freedom so hackdroid is a great middle ground.
My kindle PW3 runs android well. If anything it feels faster as no notifications about logging in, registering.
It is possible to install android on some kindle ereaders
I was running only arch on my surface pro 7 and my amd desktop, then last week after an update it seemed gnome and Linux surface kernel weren't playing nice and had bricked the install. I have switch the laptop to Debian but I tend to stick with arch, like op as I am used to it, I now run Debian as it is known to be stable.
I would love to find a new distro but for me its the sunk cost fallacy, I have put so much time into learning arch and to repeat all that - this new distro would need to offer something wildly different.

Trump’s tariff turmoil
James Carville, the political advisor who coined the phrase ‘it’s the economy stupid’ as a campaigning slogan for Democrat Bill Clinton to win the 1992 presidential election, was once asked what he’d like to be reincarnated as. “The bond market,” he replied, “it can intimidate anyone.” 9 April 2025 will be remembered as the day that proved that ‘anyone’ includes current US President Donald Trump.
Traditionally, when stock markets are falling, government debt or bond markets go up, as investors search for safe havens. This is particularly true of US government debt given the US’s dominance of the world financial system. In the first days after ‘Liberation Day’ that was what happened, but then the US bond markets suffered the steepest fall in four decades. Even more alarming, the price of gold – traditionally the safest haven of all – also started to fall. This was an indication that the whole global financial system was in danger of freezing up. Investors were selling whatever they

Bristol Greens ‘proud’ to make cuts
cross-posted from: https://lemm.ee/post/57720333
The Greens became the largest party on Bristol Council last year, promising change after years of service cuts under Labour. What has this bright new future meant for Bristol? £50 million more cuts!
Greens were beaming ear to ear, two of their leading councillors spoke of their “pride” in their council budget. That’s pride in slashing funding for services for domestic abuse, mental health, and children in care, and reducing bin collections to once every four weeks.
The change in council has meant very little for the people of Bristol. Yet again we have a party aligned with austerity, maintaining a political system which puts private profit first.
Labour’s attempt to pose as opposition was extremely hypocritical. They spent the last eight years running the city, making cuts, and blaming the Tory government.
Now Labour sits in Westminster, and the Greens in Bristol. But austerity still continues. Labou

Rhianan Rudd: Radicalised, groomed and exploited.

The tragic death by suicide of Rhianan Rudd has been highlighted by the British press this week. Aged 15, she was the youngest ever girl charged with terrorist offences. Her death raises questions on how the UK deals with children and young people involved in extremism.

Keep seeing incestuous posts on lemmy by day old accounts with no post history
Each of these posts have been accompanied by an image, a romantic fruit bowl bought by the guardian as a Valentine's gift. A bed in a new flat with one double bed to be share with the father, and a few others that followed the same pattern but I have forgotten the post. These posts also seem to delete.
Any ideas the hell is going on with this?
Experimenting with bread
So I have been working to make delicious focaccia, several attempts and so far I had a great time using a high protein white flour, wholegrain has been okay but less airy, and over night refrigerated rest is a must.
I have attempted to trim the time down to a 4 hour venture and results come out as a finer crum bread which is still very tasty.

Any idea of what to serve this with. I'm thinking a simple tomato soup.
