Russia says Polish discussion on hosting US nuclear weapons is dangerous

MOSCOW, April 25 (Reuters) - Russia said on Thursday that Poland was playing a "very dangerous game" by considering the possibility of hosting U.S. nuclear weapons.

Polish President Andrzej Duda said on Thursday he had invited Prime Minister Donald Tusk for talks on May 1 about the possibility of nuclear weapons from NATO states being deployed in Poland.

Duda has reiterated his position that Poland would be ready for such a possibility, prompting Tusk to say he would like a clarification from the president.
...
Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said any U.S. nuclear missiles in Poland could become targets in the event of a Russia-NATO war.

"It is not difficult to assume that if American nuclear weapons appear on Polish territory, the corresponding objects will immediately join the list of legitimate targets for destruction in the case of direct military conflict with NATO," she told reporters at her weekly briefing.

Flotilla Activists Hope to Bring Aid to Gaza — Or Spark a ‘Political Crisis’

The Freedom Flotilla could depart Friday with 5,500 tons of aid for Gaza, amid Israel’s ongoing siege and blockade.

Activists are planning to lead a flotilla of ships to Gaza, amid Israel’s ongoing siege. They’ll transport 5,500 tons of desperately needed food and supplies from Istanbul to the Palestinian territory, where famine looms.

The activists don’t necessarily expect to make it there. They hope they do. But in the event that Israel blocks them, boards them, and detains them — or worse — they hope their efforts will inspire international outcry and put more pressure on Israel to end its war in Gaza and blockade around the territory.
...
A Biden spokesperson declined to comment on the flotilla and did not respond to questions about whether the administration has been lobbying Turkey to block the voyage.

Wynd Kaufmyn, an activist from Berkeley traveling with the flotilla, says the participants hope that “there will be enough international e

Gender alert: Scarcity and fear: A gender analysis of the impact of the war in Gaza on vital services essential to women’s and girls’ health, safety, and dignity – Water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH)

As the war on Gaza reached its six-month mark, it continues to be a war on women. According to UN Women estimates, more than 10,000 women have been killed to date, among them an estimated 6,000 mothers who left 19,000 orphan children behind. Women who have survived have been displaced, widowed, and are facing starvation. More than one million women and girls in Gaza have almost no food, no access to safe water, latrines, washrooms, or sanitary pads, with disease growing amidst inhumane living conditions.

Since the start of the war, UN Women has been documenting the experiences of women in Gaza in a series of gender alerts that look at various aspects of how the war is impacting the daily lives of women and girls, including food, water, shelter, health, and protection. This new alert is the latest in this series, and it focuses on water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) services, which are integral to women’s health, dignity, safety, and privacy.

Microsoft’s G42 deal puts UAE in America’s AI tent

The United Arab Emirates likes to think of itself as a sort of Switzerland of the Gulf. Microsoft’s (MSFT.O), opens new tab $1.5 billion stake in Abu Dhabi artificial intelligence company G42, announced opens new tab on Tuesday, shows the limits of remaining a neutral counterparty of the United States and China, especially when it comes to AI. While nominally a private sector deal, the main upshot is to shove the UAE firmly into the U.S. camp.

As part of Tuesday’s deal, Microsoft President Brad Smith will join the board of G42, and the $3 trillion group will get to sell a set proportion of cloud capacity to G42, a person familiar with the matter told Breakingviews. G42 in return can use its AI models on Microsoft’s platforms. But there’s an additional, political condition: G42 has to stop using Huawei telecom equipment, which the United States reckons the Chinese government employs for intelligence.

In some ways, China and the UAE have a close relationship – not l

The worst backdoor in the history of open source software was narrowly avoided just days ago.

Had this gone undetected, vast sections of the linux ecosystem would've become vulnerable to being hacked and taken over by a bad actor that to this day remains totally unknown.

The XZ Backdoor is believe me - one hell of a rabbit hole, so rather than going into detail on one specific thing, this video is more of an overview on the whole campaign beginning to end.

  • Intersectionality is a great analytical tool. Jewish Voice for Peace found themselves to be in the intersection of being both Jewish and anti-zionists. German government policies and often German people (even from the left or antifa), fail take this intersection into consideration.

But do we really need this analytical tool for this topic? When a person knows the historical relation between zionism and fascism, why would they support zionists or zionist policies?

  • Every law has its exceptions.

  • I thought it would be important to include the following link:

Jewish Voice for Peace - Our Approach to Zionism

While it had many strains historically, the Zionism that took hold and stands today is a settler-colonial movement, establishing an apartheid state where Jews have more rights than others. Our own history teaches us how dangerous this can be.

Palestinian dispossession and occupation are by design. Zionism has meant profound trauma for generations, systematically separating Palestinians from their homes, land, and each other. Zionism, in practice, has resulted in massacres of Palestinian people, ancient villages and olive groves destroyed, families who live just a mile away from each other separated by checkpoints and walls, and children holding onto the keys of the homes from which their grandparents were forcibly exiled.

Germany finds itself in a situation where it is being asked to side with some Jews against others

  • It’s right there in the headline

Oh the title. I read the article after a sneak-pick at the comment section and yours made me wonder to the point I did the ctr+f thingy.

Well, the title has a quite different quote and that’s what makes all the difference due to the historic reference. I think if you don’t like the title, you should hate the article because of what it is describing in relation to what is happening in Germany to Jewish people, and not about how this article title is written.

Do you deny that Jewish people suffer again on German ground, due to German policies using the argument of defending zionism?
Do you deny that zionism is historically related to fascism?

[edit: oops I thought I was replying to @Tarte and not @rimjobrainer. Well the questions are for both of you or anyone who cares to answer them. Just to note that suffering is a spectrum. I am not claiming that Genocide is happening again in Germany, but people being targeted to the point of having their bank accounts frozen is a punitive measure to make people suffer]

  • Take a look at Times of Israel in MBFC

    Amongst other things it says:

    Bias Rating: LEFT-CENTER
    Factual Reporting: HIGH
    Country: Israel
MBFC’s Country Freedom Rank: MODERATE FREEDOM
    Media Type: Website
    Traffic/Popularity: High Traffic
    MBFC Credibility Rating: HIGH CREDIBILITY

When covering the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, they usually are objective and cover both sides fairly, such as this: IDF strikes fresh Hamas targets after 2nd rocket fired from Gaza Strip. However, during the conflict of 2023, they were less objective, focusing on the objectives of the Israeli military. In general, the Times of Israel is factual with a slight left-leaning editorial bias.

This is not a joke, just check it out.

  • "seizing money" = temporarily frozen bank account until a legal dispute is settled

I didn't find this term in the text (ctrl+f). Why do you have it in quotes?

Apart from that nowadays if a bank freezes a person's account, it's really hard to live/survive in many places in this world and Germany is one of them. Unless you use crypto, and not everybody does.

    "Germany" = a German bank

Banks often freeze accounts in order to follow governmental policies, often of protesters. Meaning, one way or another this move is backed by the government.

  • maybe just a re-write news site run by people without much experience

I think if it was several people at the beginning of their writing career on mainstream topics, they would gladly include their names.

OP is quite likely trying to promote it. Hopefully they come and engage here.

I am honestly looking forward to their repply

  • This is something that crossed my mind but it still doesn’t answer the question of who writes these mainstream articles. I also thought it could be something like a personal blog, but the number of daily published articles is too great to support this thought.
And the OP doesn’t seem to care to engage in replying to my questions so far.

  • Why Israel has so many Palestinian prisoners - Inside Israel’s dual criminal justice system (Video 11:49)

(...) Each one of these Palestinian prisoners has been processed by Israel’s military court system, which exists completely separate from the civilian court system that Jewish Israelis interact with. This system and the military orders that govern it have their origins in the Israeli occupation of the Palestinian territories in 1967.

In this video, two experts explain Israel’s military court system, why it’s been a focus of outcry from human rights organizations, and why hostage negotiations have historically involved the exchange of Palestinian prisoners.

  • honestly this is something that if if was written by a human and had a very good science article around it, I could still care less.

This is not a site that is focused on ecology tho and the OP is constantly posting from it. I have asked them these kind of questions in several of their posts on various topics and they have not bothered replying something.

Also there are topics that it is important for the author to hide their identity due to the content they write. This site is not related to that sort of content. On the contrary it has tones of articles related to events reported in mainstream media, but no authors anywhere.

    • In relation to the NYT article’s that says:

Since Oct. 7, Hezbollah has been firing rockets into northern Israel on a near-daily basis.

It doesn’t mention where this statement is based upon.

    • The other 2 are from Israeli press, so there’s not much to trust there.
    • The CNN one is not related to my question
  • BTW I applaud the French school system for its enforced secularization.

    That's a tricky one nowadays.

Israel carries out several attacks inside Lebanon and Syria killing civilians

Despite the UN Security Council adopting a resolution on a ceasefire in Gaza, peace remains elusive with Israel’s continued attacks on Palestinians and other countries in the region.
