Using nfs on ext4 file systems, I've always just added them to fstab and it works just like that

Do they not have apartments where you live? Walk-ups, home conversions, etc. Everywhere I've lived, this was super common
You could use a different file manager. And there's a few places I would look for files : downloads, pictures, etc, or in a folder named for the app under one of those places
