SSD's and HDD's

Were can I buy external ssds and hdds? I used to buy them on Amazon, but I don't want to go through them

  • Not really what you are asking for, but I have transitioned back to physical media/discs and I have moved away from modern series as a result. Shows today either feel underdeveloped or if they are good they are cancelled in the name of profit.

It's nice to watch series that you know have finished and you will get to see the whole story. Currently I'm watching Workaholics and I'm about to rewatch GOT up to the last season.

  • The show had lost its magic long before, but the Walking Dead matching up Rick and Michonne. Having read all the comics, they are so wrong for eachother. Great friends, but not relationship level. The big mistake the show made was casting a terrible actress for Andrea so they had to kill her off and thus took away Ricks love interest from the comics.

It really was one in a long list of bad decisions that destroyed an excellent show.

  • Can Dexter ever just be done? The original show started almost 20 years ago now. If it had been a mini series or capped at 4 seasons, it would go down as one of the best. It's beating a dead horse with how drawn out it has gone

  • I was listening to a podcast where the found that Spotifys recommendations are set to play songs you like always. They don't want to challenge your listening habits out of fear that people will cancel their subscriptions. Basically they will always play it safe

  • It's a terrible time right now. I've applied for over 100 roles this year and only got 3 interviews. Interviews went well, but you never move on. Likely they had someone in mind for the position already.

I think I'm close to reaching out to one of those temp agencies and try to find a year contract somewhere with the hope I end up getting a permanent offer somewhere.

I have 10 years experience in operations and finished a BBA a year ago and it has not amounted in any new opportunities sadly.

  • I was in Portland a few years ago and the encampments were extensive. Like nothing I have ever seem. You passed massive ones while on the train from the airport. The idea that the solution to it is just to ban camping rather than actually provide stable housing for a massive vulnerable population is so brain dead.

    FOSS Sports Scores App

I have been using different apps for years to follow my favorite teams and leagues. I used Bleacher Report for a while and then a few others. Problem always is at some point they get enshitified and start covering the pages with ads, sports betting, and send pushy notifcations.

I really just want something that will let me see the games being played today and send me notifcations when the games start.

  • I strongly believe The Office should have ended when Michael left. His departure was perfect and if they had ended the rest of the show there, they would have finished the show on a high. Instead it dragged on and it became a shell of itself.

If I can advocate for Parks and Rec's end. I will say that they found a way to wrap it up very well giving each character a satisfying ending to their arcs. The new characters are defintely forgettable and sour the later episodes a bit, but it is worth it for the conclusion.

  • I think it depends on your preference. I worked out at the gym for many years before covid and after the pandemic I built a home gym with a power rack, barbell, adjustable dumbells, and cable machine. Biggest advantage of this is not having to share a rack with anyone. It was sometimes annoying to have to wait for equipment.

What I'll say is that I really appreciated starting at the gym as I got to have access to every machine and workout equipment. This let me build a workout plan over years and get a good idea of what sort of equipment I would need to stay active. I also found it helpful to see what other people were doing at the gym. Some people clearly have no idea what they are doing, but seeing what other experienced people at the gym were doing gave me some great ideas of what to incorporate into my workouts.

I also did have a personal trainer for 6 months and I highly recommend this, especially when you are new to working out. The biggest value is from having someone experienced give you tips and tricks on how to improve your form and workout safely. Especially as you get stronger and lift heavier weights. It's easy to lift something slightly wrong and really hurt yourself.

Overall, I always enjoyed my time at the gym and it gave me the knowledge to built a great home gym.

Is there an app that can change what the default browser app is based on which app is open?

I have migrated my browser over to IronFox, but I have noticed that my banking apps dont like it for signing in. I'm wondering if there is an app that can change the default browser when certain apps are open, and then revert back when they are closed.

Best Way to Clone Micro SD Card on Linux?

I'm going to upgrade the micro SD card I use for emulation to one with more storage. What is the best way to close the micro SD card I have in my steam deck now to a new one so I can just plug in and go with all my games and save files?

    Issues with Immich

I set up Immich on a spare mini PC running Linux Mint with a spare external HDD to store the library. Used Docker compose as recommended on the website. Everything was working great last night. Then this morning I decided to move the mini PC to a more permanent location. I powered down and moved it. When everything restarted though I discovered that I was unable to c9nnect to the immich server. I went onto the mini PC and the local host and all it says is, "connection was reset." I have tried restarting docker from terminal several times and it says the immich services are running. I still cannot connect to the server though. What can I do to fix this?

    Winter Walking Boots

My big winter boots I have used for the last few years got a split in them today. I use them a lot as I walk about 1km a day to and from work. I have to walk up hills and on ice at times. Which boots should I buy that will be good quality, keep my feet warm and dry, and last repeated daily use?

Advice on parts for a Linux Bazzite build

I am coming from being a console player all my life. I love the conviency of a console, but I'm tired of all the B.S. Subscriptions, lack of exclusives, no backwards compatibly. I got a steam deck last year and I love it. I would like something more powerful though that I can plug into my TV though and game in at least 1080p with high settings. Ideally 4k with decent settings.

I am transitioning my computing to Linux and I like the look of Bazzite which is very similar to the steam desk. I would like to do a build that can replace my console. I'm thinking I should go Ryzen AMD. I'm more just wondering what components will work with a Linux build and if there are some things I should avoid. If someone has recommendations for a $1500 CAD build I would also be very interested in that.

How can I get updates about when my favourite artists/bands release new music without needing Spotify?

I've been cutting out subscriptions and Spotify is the last one I would like to get rid of. I've transitioned to buying and downloading my favourite artists songs so I can own the music I love. The only thing keeping me with Spotify at the moment is the Release Radar playlist it creates for you. Basically I want to know if there is a way to get notified when the artists I follow release new music. I've been looking and so far I haven't found a viable alternative.
