We need a fully community run password manager with row-level server synchronisation between devices and shared vaults. Maybe a new client for the Bitwarden protocol with Vaultwarden or something new. E.g. 1password's secret key as a second factor is, imho, their best feature. It pretty much eliminates the possibility of the vault being decrypted due to a weak master password.
Yup, makes sense, since Android is also Linux
AFAIK, the main difference is that Firefox's process isolation on Linux specifically is incomplete. They're working on fixing that.
Permanently Deleted
Honestly, a very impressive move. Makes me way more confident in the trajectory of the company and I'm happy to have been a visionary user for multiple years.
I wonder, though, just how much of Proton A.G. does the foundation now own? They say it's the largest shareholder, but they didn't say "majority shareholder".
Better than Firefox being blocked in Russia. Addons can be added from files anyway.
Donald?
This. Nowadays people mostly buy TVs when their old ones break. There's no marginal improvement. The industry is here to stay, but its high growth days are in the past.
You know, the guy on the internet might have also been doing stuff all that time
Probably has something to do with fewer political posts
I suspect a lot of CSAM searches come from underage users themselves
Nice socks lol
1password should just open source its apps. IMHO, security and infrastructure software has no business being closed source.
Yeah.
Personally, I care about the phone number requirement not because I don't want to reveal it to Signal servers, but because it limits access to Signal for people in countries that block their SMS service - registration messages just don't arrive
This is important context. Signal needs to make phone numbers optional...
Not much point in using SSDs in a NAS if it's there just for holding your files
Use HDDs for linear read/write (files) and SSDs for IOPS (databases)
Wtf is this comment trying to say?
Cute
Firefox's been killing it recently

Thoughts on Huel?

I've recently started eating/drinking Huel quite a bit and am finding it great so far! Tried it a couple of times before and used to get slight inflammation, but since they removed gluten, it seems to work quite well for me.
Do you use it? Is it actually healthy? Do you like it? Any side effects?

The problem with AI alignment is that humans aren't aligned
I'm sure there are some AI peeps here. Neural networks scale with size because the number of combinations of parameter values that work for a given task scales exponentially (or, even better, factorially if that's a word???) with the network size. How can such a network be properly aligned when even humans, the most advanced natural neural nets, are not aligned? What can we realistically hope for?
Here's what I mean by alignment:
- Ability to specify a loss function that humanity wants
- Some strict or statistical guarantees on the deviation from that loss function as well as potentially unaccounted side effects
