How does social media generate revenue?

What do people who own social media platforms gain from it and how? Where do they get the revenue from? I know that ads make up some part of it but is the revenue generated from ads enough?

  • The Blade Itself by Joe Abercrombie. I'm a fairly new reader and never been much into fantasy. I read the Harry Potter series and the first mistborn novel (The 2nd mistborn novels was really boring.) and assumed that all fantasy novels are the same with the chosen one trope and all. Didn't read anything fantasy for over a year and then I was recommended this banger by one of my friends. I love this book so much. I've never read anything close to this.

  • Unrelated, but I've seen this transphobic guy on Instagram who is like 60 and a body builder. He was showing the clips of a disabled trans boy (female to male) who had just undergone top surgery. The boy had some kind of disability because of which he couldn't walk and had speech problems. The old man said that there was no way the boy had asked for it and insisted that he was being forced into it. I checked the posts from the disabled kid and he was far from not being able to decide for himself. He seemed smart enough. The old guy didn't even bother to check and insisted that it was forced.

A fire upon the deep by Vernor Vinge (spoilers)

I'm gonna review the book and also I have a couple of questions about the ending. I liked the book and rate it 4.5 out of 5 stars.

In this book, the galaxy is divided into 4 zones based on the intelligence of the creatures that live and the level of technology that works in each zone.

A group of scientists from straumli realm go to the outermost zone, the transcend and accidentally awaken an ancient power that wreaks havoc in the galaxy. A family of four escape with the countermeasure to the tines world in the lower beyond the zone before transcend. The tines world is inhabited by dog like creatures that work in packs of 4-6. A group of dogs is considered an individual and a single dog is considered a member. The parents are killed and the kids are trapped along with the countermeasure.

A rescue team consisting of humans as well as aliens is traveling to the tines world to retrieve the countermeasure and rescue the kids.

what really happend at the end? What
