  • Never heard anyone with this take but apparently 5 people agree with you. I find him talented and delightful.

  • Copying the source can lead to doxxing, brigading, threats of violence, and other trouble

  • As a man I’ve been patiently waiting my entire life for the general population of women to realize they can shame men into not being stupid assholes. I don’t think men on the whole are going to like it…but it’s been a long time coming. See: history.

  • Never realized how many absolute BANGERS that ABBA has until we saw a cover band of them recently.

  • I wish it was acceptable to call older folks out as lazy if they refuse to learn how to text, email and otherwise use the internet. It’s fine for them to call millennials lazy if they can’t drive a stick shift or balance a checkbook, but if you’re giving me bullshit like “I’m 68 years old, I don’t text and I don’t email” you are just a lazy, stubborn bastard. I’ve met plenty of 90 year olds who are perfectly capable because they aren’t lazy old fucks.

  • On the whole it’s gone way downhill since the API fiasco in my opinion. The only thing worth a damn on Reddit nowadays is that some specific communities are better than elsewhere (sports, mental health, niche hobbies) but only because discussion boards (php) have mostly died and Facebook somehow manages to even MORE toxic as far as racism, sexism, etc.

It’s depressing. At one time Reddit on the whole as an entity (not the company, the community) was very vibrant and amazing.

  • Target is both to hit your sense of justice (I’m a male feminist) but also engage the innate urge to see the photos. Example

Anne Hathaway criticized by chauvinists for being too sexy on the red carpet

Oh wow, I hate sexism so much I better check out these photos!! so I can…support women?

It CAN work for men but is usually not demeaning. Chris Pratt went from adorable pudge to sexy muscleman, click here to see him shirtless! Not the same I guess.

  • Agree. I hate having to click through 4 modes just to turn it off. On, dim, on and off slow, strobe…off. No!

  • Florida and California are getting like that in the US. The lawyers and public adjusters are contributing to the problem by suing and shaking down every insurance company that stays in the state. In California they are begging them to stay…

  • If you are ever fortunate enough to pay off your house DO NOT go without insurance because you can

  • It’s funny but I still have PTSD from working cat events and having to tell 100 people that homeowners’ insurance doesn’t cover flooding. Probably sounds like nothing to you but It’s emotionally exhausting and insurance policies have to be written so plenty of money is paid out showing that customers are getting value out of being insured, but not so much that the company goes bankrupt.

  • Guy at work always starts saying sexist shit when no other women are around, maybe wanting to built camaraderie or something? Toxic masculinity is a myth. Women all want the bad boys. No thanks we can avoid the 1:1 convos from now on.

  • The more they talk about putting limits on what it can do and refuse certain requests the less I feel excited about trying it. Like ooh this technology can do ANYTHING but…not that. Not that either. Nope not that.

  • This is all they ask. Google the star method.

  • Yes, but it you want to do well at an interview this is the shit they will ask

Two 2000's tech things I'm shocked still exist

    1. PCMag - I used to physically walk into a store and buy that magazine to read about computers…before the internet was so clean and fast it made for a better news and media experience. I’m pretty sure PCMag has been around since they included AOL cds with an isssue.
    2. Woot! Lol…why? Woot was always stupid. The deals were never good. There is no need for it.

Both of these give me a lot of nostalgia for the early 2000’s. Playing games on Yahoo messenger. GameCube, PS2, OG Xbox.

Shocked they still exist, let alone have the funds to be running Facebook ads.

2G, 3G, 4G, 5G mobile data made some sense as it represents generational leaps in the technology itself but then Xfinity wants to advertise "10g" internet...

Comcast says it represents a 10 Gigabit cable internet network they are building (it doesn’t exist) so they are basically changing the meaning of the g from generation to gig to act like 10g is 5 generations better (or twice as fast)…or that they have a 10 gigabit network. Neither is accurate. It’s still just cable internet that people have to use because they have no other option.

    Fuck Comcast.

I read online they are abandoning the “confusing” 10g branding but I just saw a commercial for it. They think all of their customers are morons and count on folks having no other choices in a lot of cases.

Apologies to anyone outside the United States, this is just complaining about our poor internet options and deceptive advertising by greedy corporations.

Anyone else do "last chance socks"?

That thing where you put on a fresh pair of socks and one has a hole so you think well I went to all that trouble to pull it on, this will be your last day little buddy, I’ll just throw it away after I wear it today.

Last chance underwear happen now and again as well but I guess it depends on where the hole is.

Bard is great as long as you tell it what day it is before you ask a question...

Really boggles my mind when I ask can ask it questions about live NFL games and it can answer in real time but I’ll ask another question and it doesn’t know what day today is…tells me the 2022 season is over because it is cycling into from some rando blog, I think. So smart and so fucking stupid.

Honda's commercials saying they are going to be carbon neutral by 2050. What?

What does this mean, if anything? How would it be possible for a car company to be carbon neutral? Is this just nonsense/posturing since it’s so long from now?

Can anyone explain "Good Burger 2" to me? why does anyone want to watch this?

Background for myself, I was a viewer when Good Burger was a sketch on “All That,” a children’s sketch comedy show on Nickelodeon in the 90’s. It was basically Saturday night live for kids. They had this heavyset girl who sarcastically read the news like Chevy Chase and shit. It was pretty edgy for nine-year-olds. Good Burger wasn’t even the funniest sketch on the fucking show. All of the comedy revolved around Kel’s character talking like a white surfer/stoner guy…like Bill & Ted, also popular around the time. He misunderstood peoples orders in an adorable way…I’d like a shake so he would shake you. Great.

In 1997 I graduated high school and they released the movie that year… I guess it’s nostalgic and that’s why people remember it. Other 90s kids? Similar to SNL movies, it had cameos from a bunch of stars, and sort of a built-in audience, I guess, because of TV. I’m not sure if it went to theaters, but if it did, I don’t know who in the hell would watch it. Seems more like a VHS

OK Microsoft... trying to log into Teams while work lapop updates to Windows 11. No longer works in any iPhone browser, including Edge. The app will not authenticate my work login.

Update…Per Microsoft’s instructions, disabled all tracking protections in Safari and requested desktop mode and it works. Their instructions say turn protections back on after using teams… 😐

Funny enough it works in Safari and not Edge…tho that may be Apple’s fault since all browsers are somewhat just versions of Safari, last I heard…

Teen daughter - I might as well be an alien to her

Posting this separate after my comment became so long…

I’m having a general panic that my 15 year old daughter does not need me at all and I do not factor into her life whatsoever. Try to speak to her and she teases me and brushes me off. Her girlfriend wrote my wife a lovely note how she and my son are so lucky to have a mother who cares about them so much. No mention or even nod to the fact that I exist. We parent as a team…the way she is raised and all of the love and support she gets is 50/50 in my opinion, although my wife has the direct conversations about relationships, sex, girl stuff because she doesn’t want to talk to me about that.

I suffered emotionally as a kid/teen and I have fought to get her therapy and medication, she went from being anxious beyond belief with suicidal ideation to pretty fucking happy nowadays…and that’s because I fought for that, based on my experience. I’ve given her the support I wish I had.

Anyway, I hope it’s just a phase and she will talk to m

Then you look at the temperature and think eh…45 isn’t that bad. We’ll survive. That will be the moment the wind whips up and sleet starts hitting you in the face.

These folks called me while driving home yesterday and while I don’t like unsolicited calls and I don’t plan to donate again (right now) I do support their cause. They say they advocate for holding energy companies accountable for fair energy pricing and polluting the environment. Do they? I assume they do. You can use this form to email your representatives.

Why is everyone so giddy about the flooding thay happened at burning man?

Social media seems to be laughing its ass off about this tragedy, is it because the folks at burning man are perceived as frivolous hippies or something? Everyone I’ve ever met who was a regular burning man attendee has been a solid human being with strong morals, personally and financially responsible, a career. Upstanding members of society for sure. I guess all some people know is the sensationalized drugs and sex. A person died. This is a tragedy for an event that brings positivity into the world. Kind of annoyed.

    Bullet Journal @discuss.online
    mysoulishome @lemmy.world

Here is what I do...not sure if it's really a bullet journal or not

I’ve been working on trauma recovery this year and decided to implement a mindfulness habit of stopping 3 times a day and just noticing what my body is feeling. This is a somatic exercise for CPTSD because when you pay attention to what your body is feeling you can train it to process physical reactions such as fight or flight instinct…then your nervous system can learn to react in a healthy way instead of the reactions festering into anxiety, depression, feeling numb.

Anyway…so I added reminders and tracking through streaks and finally settled on using Day One for this activity since I can pull out my phone to do it or do it on the iPad or computer…or even at work by sending an email. In the past few years I have tried off and on paper journals, Wordpress and Day One…my handwriting is terrible and my hands are getting more stiff in my mid 40s. I’m worried that Wordpress will go down someday and I’ll lose all my old stuff.

I created a second journal in Day One called daily feelings a
