Stepping down as the head mod of 196

thank you. And god, yes. I'm glad to be out of that space.
Horrid vibes. Not sure why, but it reminds me of my 2016 stint on devientart

Stepping down as the head mod of 196

Truth be told, this doesn't change much, but I'd still like to make it official.
As of about 17 days ago, I have stepped down as the head mod of 196 on both this platform and lemmy.world. I will be yielding that title to the much more qualified Qaz, who's been functionally in charge for quite a while now.
Despite what you may think, I make this choice really only for one reason: I don't have nearly enough spare time in my life to be consistently available enough to be head mod.
What does this change/what does this mean?
To be honest, pretty much nothing for all of you. I've barely been available for the past however many months it's been, and in that time the community has been run exclusively by Qaz and the rest of the team.
All that you'll see changed is that Qaz will at times be the one that makes an announcement, and Qaz is now the only person that can make moderatorial decisions (bans, ect) without checking with the rest of the team (a power reserved for

is this supposed to be some sort of own?

notice how these are downvoted to crap and you would have to actively seek them out to see them?

very possibly

Please tag as nsfw.

??????? this is a joke about how projesterone, a hormone that I and many other trans women take, makes you horny.
I'm really not liking how your group seems dead set on misinterpreting everything I say to the point of seeming absurd to an outside observer.

this is an old profile picture that I've kept because lemmy.world keeps giving me a json error whenever I try to change it. also, the caption that is cut out in my profile picture is "white people when there's cheese at the function" neither of these are relevant to what you just said but I'm glad you know now what you did not before

oh no!!!

fortunately, that is all also under the domain of our mod team. I'm proud to say that we've yet to have an emailed ban request go more that four hours without a response.

yeah. It's pretty emblematic of the struggles we've been having with her behind the scenes.

this is just straight up not the case

Just wanted to chime in and say this was legitimately written by the entire mod team in a group google doc. This is not me using the royal we.

What’s Going On With 196, Or, Why We Did What We Did
TL;DR: We tried to move the community because of moderatorial concerns, but fumbled how we went about doing so.
First and Foremost:
We'd like to formally apologize for springing this on you all out of nowhere, and for taking so long to respond to the backlash. With retrospect, we understand that we should have notified you all beforehand to create an opportunity to give us feedback. We understand that a lot of respect and trust was lost, and we expect it'll take a lot of work and a lot of time before we can earn it back, but we would be grateful if y’all gave us that chance.
What happened, and why?
The primary issue that incited this was because we don't fully agree with the admin's moderation policies. By and large they do a great job and align with us on mod actions, but there have been several cases where we strongly disagreed, and our choices were overruled.
For example, 2 months ago, Kolanaki reached out to us via email and said they were banned from 196 for “pla

Rules, regulations, or: why am I banned???

Please incorporate the word rule in your post titles
Here are the things that get you banned
- Saying anything remotely iffy with a lemmygrad, threads, or hexbear account.
- Prejudice of any kind
- Tankie behaviour
- Nazi behaviour
- Authoritarian behaviour
- Genocide denial
- Anything else that is clearly bad
Ban length varies, and is mostly based off of whether or not I think you will change your behavior. I have banned certain people for upwards of 2000 days.
Things that get your post/comment removed
- AI generated content
- Anything in the banlist
- Posts that are so off topic that they don’t fit on 196 at all
- Moldy memes (old memes, crusty memes, irrelevant memes. The type of things you’d see on your aunt’s Facebook page or Elon musk’s Twitter account with a laughing emoji as the caption) Except on moldy monday. On this day and only this day moldy memes are not only allowed, but encouraged. The crustier the better. The type of thing that’s been reposted at

I'm looking for people to join the mod team!

I can't run 196 and 195 solo, so I'm looking for some mods! Leave your "applications" in the comments.
