  • It's a variation of the old joke where the teacher points to a kid and asks to give two examples of pronouns. The frightened kid asks "who? me?" and the teacher continues, saying "perfect!"

  • I think it's more like people admiring a uranium fragment in ancient times. Better to stay out of it and let others decay themselves by using it

  • Now I will always carry hand sanitizer in case I'm attacked by a snake

  • Maybe having fediverse events, with each instance participating. Maybe even tournaments and championships, with each instance being like a team and having representative users, so that when we register in an instance, it won't be simply entering a random server, but joining and rooting for a team.

That's just a random idea. There are probably many other possibilities

  • To complement my previous comment, I believe the best course for us would be, instead of trying to address something that will never be better than in centralized networks, to try creating things that are great and exclusive to the fediverse. People can deal with minor inconveniences if they get some unique experience in exchange

  • But can it really be addressed? Centralized systems will probably always be easier to use. For example, if you want to follow a lemmy community, it will be community@somewhere instead of just the community name, and it will be possible to have competing communities with the same same but different servers. This will always leave people confused, and it's something inherent to the federated model

  • From ai 2027 to this, it seems that even hyped ai predictions are getting humbled down

  • But does it really stop them? We need to collect evidence. Any volunteers?

  • , but I actually like Debian’s slow update cycle,

That's one of debian's strengths and an often overlooked feature that I believe many people would love as well. I even had a professor migrating from windows to debian simply because he's, in his words: "tired of things changing all the time without my permission. I want a system that stays the same for as long as possible and barely changes". Debian was like a natural choice for him. I thought he would be asking me for help in the transition, but he said he's "ok and learning by searching on the internet", and that he's "investing some time on earning it, because the guarantee of minimal changes makes the it an investment, instead of a waste of time".

  • This must be some engagement bait, because I can't believe people actually think that 150 years are time so long that people won't understand our languages and stamps on products

  • It feels like people are mostly from usa, a few from europe and a minority from other places. Most users give the impression of being economically above the average. Being tech-savvy doesn't even need to be mentioned >.< but people tend to be a bit elitist about it. In fact, elitist it a word that describes much of what I observe around. It's tricky to talk about it, because no one likes to be pointed on such things, but it's something clearly observable from anyone from outside, like me

  • Don't forget debian on phones (mobian), debian on embedded devices (armbian or even pure debian), debian on gaming machines and debian on vms running on debian hosts

  • I also wouldn't be happy if I looked at the mirror and realized I was elon musk

  • Wood gear

  • I didn't know about that. They're even more fascinating than I thought

  • We need competition in the browser market, ANY competition!

    * ladybird appears *

Well... that was on me, I set the bar too low

  • It wouldn't be much different even for billionaires under 90

  • I think Lemmy’s audience is actually fairly diverse

That's interesting to see your perception of it being fairly diverse. My perception is quite the opposite. It feels like there's only a very specific demographic in here, and sometimes I even feel like leaving, due to being out from that group
