  • Lack of education (and a university degree changes nothing) which ends in a lack of critical thinking. The causes are deeper than "it's the economy", "they are delusional", "social media", even if social media is bad for critical thinking. You still have to educate yourself in many fields to develop your cognitive capabilities, and this from a young age.

Going outside, playing with a stick and a rock, develops your brain. You're the actor of your life. A smartphone screen puts the kid in a passive state.

But it would be too easy to blame just this. It's more than one factor. This politics of doom scrolling serves an economical purpose. The economy is over wellbeing. More and more norms are put on the human being, alienating them.

Masculinism is a simple theory, solution, to a more complex issue. Humans like these simple answers.

We have to address these multiple dots connected to each other's. It's not just masculinity, it's the society in which we want to live.

Talking Watch from the early 90s

    cross-posted from: https://lemmy.dbzer0.com/post/42622019

It announces the time in a clear voice. Fancy at this time.

I found it and took the picture at the international watch museum.

  • The museum display this watch inside a timeline to show you the evolution. It's actually neat of them to put cheap watches in the general exhibition. You have a broad range from this cheap watch to an old disused atomic clock.

  • It sells nowadays online for 10-15$.

  • communication with others is usually fraught for autistic people.

You should read about the double empathy problem. It has empirical proofs and explain well the issue.

  • RFK Jr. is a puppet and serves the interest of Trump Elmo.

  • People don't understand that a state isn't a private company, and you can't manage the state like in the private sector.

  • Trump is a personality cult. It's not rational and whatever. It's about him and always has been.

  • Oh, of course, my intent was more "quit the US".

  • They could just become a European company. I'm just saying.

  • In fact a lot of them like Olten, Spreitenbach, Monthey, Martigny, Villeneuve (next to op picture), Crissier, Le Locle, Biel/Bienne, Renens and part of cities like ZH Affoltern, Bern Bümpliz, Vernier, Bourdonette, etc.

  • I'm not even sorry to laugh out loud at the title.

  • Email won't disappear sooner or later. It's a huge part of communication between companies, nonprofit, state, etc. It may be less between people or with consumers. But, it still is widely use otherwise.

  • This makes me think that Firefox for Android nightly has in the secret settings a Tab Strip option.

  • Historically it's not the first. Lausanne had an extensive network back in the days. It even went deep in the countryside and carried freight.

People can still see tram tracks at Moudon train station.

  • I'm waiting to see the bubble poping out.

PCC type 7700/7800 of the STIB

Brussel ordered PCC trams type 7700/7800. They were built under licence by La Brugeoise et Nivelles in Belgium between 1972 and 1973.

The difference was that the type 7700 are former 7500 being rebuild as bidirectional.

    Double cab purpose

Teams can be single or double cab. One purpose is to switch direction in case of construction work.

In the picture, a Stadler Tramlinie of Bernmobil switch direction at Kursaal as the Kornhaus bridge is under renovation.

Bern trams in the city center

These are two Siemens Combino of two generation. The first a Combino XL is younger.

On the overhead wires, tram tracks form a triangle at this place. Add to this, that a trolleybus line cut the triangle, you get this mess.

Landmark ruling: Switzerland’s climate policy violates human rights

In a much-anticipated ruling, the European Court of Human Rights has decided that Swiss authorities are responsible for not implementing efficient climate change policies[...]

On Tuesday, the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) upheld their appeal and condemned Switzerland for violating the right to respect for private and family life (Article 8 of the European Convention on Human Rights).

Today’s ruling is unprecedented. This is the first time that the ECHR has condemned a state for failing to take action against climate change, linking the protection of human rights to compliance with environmental obligations.

    [...]

The new ruling should apply to the 46 States member of the European Council.

    New laptop

    Hi everyone!

I need to buy a new laptop to replace my 12 years old laptop. I didn't look after hardware for a while for some personal reasons.

I will buy something new. My needs are:

    • photo editing
    • video editing
    • vector graphics editing/creation
    • good battery life (I don't want to worry about)
    • web navigating, docs, spreadsheets
    • USB-C charging would be nice

I don't game, and Framework isn't available where I live.

I would be happy to have some recommendation on what is a good hardware for this use and good brand.

    Thanks!
