They do in a way, there is an admin matrix room. But I guess they would be to say in small works...uh....non-less techy friendly? I can figure out a lot but all my searches of the matrix has just been "hey how to I get csam off my server" "idk, grep the database and delete some of those images, idk the query, we just don't have tools for it SHRUG"
yeah...I didn't realize the software wasn't mature enough to not have purging tools for stuff like this. I've been not responding because I like having a little thing like this, but didn't realize it would guzzle up space like that.
So trying to diagnose the issue, it seems there are spam spikes from outside of our server, but in trying to federate with these events, it starts running our CPU of the server at 100% and errors out. When I restart it during that, it seems to have issues and I have to rollback.
Thankfully, we had a rollback from last night this time, but for now that means I will be removing the largest non-art communities that would get spammed, such as memes, news, and politics from the large big servers. This means that this instance will probably be more useful just for art only for the time being. Many mobile clients allow you to login to multiple accounts on different servers, so you may need to do that to get better access to non-niche content.
There will be an eventual lemmy update that will create a federation queue that addresses this, but for now, we have to work with what we have.
Different colors than I usually use, obviously to invoke a feeling (plus this is from like 2003, all we had were yellow light bulbs).
His name was Artemis (but 10 year old me wrote it Artimus) and his death was very traumatic to me. I thought we didn't have any old photos of him, but I found one recently. I don't want to show my real face and the blog I had it on blurred my face anyways, so I decided I would do a tribute redraw. At least sketchy, like, with an obviously converted very 80s or earlier couch we had at the time.
I got the idea to do it last night as I slept, and I woke up at 2am and decided to just go at it until now at 6am so I guess in a way it's rushed, but I got the feeling I wanted out of it.

I think the problem is just the massive storage costs of holding lots of video. Youtube is king because anyone can upload whatever, at any amount, but instances of peertube have to monitor their usage closely.
I was uploading to one only for vtubers, and they said they had enough money for 6months or so without dono help, but one month someone attacked or something and just ended up consuming videos at a repeated and huge enough rate that they got a surprise bill that was just too high. They also near the end had to turn off better streaming encoding because it was bandwidth heavy.
yeah unfortunatly. there was a more recent backup, but it failed to take for some reason so I had to go back farther. :(
(edit: I also lost my very popular pixel art image of the danger ahead lol)
Some of my more recent art got axed from the rollback on crystals.rest, but I got a nice variety of size sprites for a person I have decided to called Melon!
I had to rollback the server due to some kind of issues to 8-28. Besides my own post, I don't think there was much missing. I just wanted to make sure you guys were aware.
You can disable downvotes, but I think they're important when like, having discussions. Not just as some kind of reflex to someone having fun. And I think I can technically figure out who downvotes, but I'm not going to do that.
Also :> still positive in the end
But yeah I predicted maliciousness, but really. I don't get why people auto downvote things that have nothing to do with them.
When an artist posts a non-offensive artwork, or creates promotional posts, it's not just me, I see it constantly that the vote sits at 0. All posts get an automatic +1 on posting by yourself, so someone, someone probably here, looks at a brand new post of an artist sharing their craft and downvotes.
Yes, karma doesn't matter here, but it's such a shitty thing to do, and if it's one of you here on crystals.rest, you're not welcome. I'm not saying you can't downvote things ever, but automatically downvoting someone on a small instance when all they are doing is sharing something just makes people feel like shit.
I see that same thing when I'm on r/gamedevclassified. So now I automatically upvote ALL posts there because artists NEED VISIBILITY
My commissions are open for various things like 32px icons, 16px icon, and others, but specifically I've seen a focus on character portraits. I'm willing to work with indie game developers to create portraits for their characters in games, which includes different emotion, as well as idle animations, mouth movement, and blinking.
These examples I've shown here are part of my "skeb" like series in that there's minimal back and forth for those on a budget, but I do offer specifically more detailed prices on a very refined portrait. Regardless, you can just email me for a quote!

you're not going to fault me for buying a chicken burger are you?
There are TONS of people who will do that exact thing. what is or is not a sandwich or burger (is a burger a type of sandwich?) for some reason is a stupidly contentious topic that people feel passionate about.
People take labels and their individual expectations of that label pretty emotionally.
I just wanted to open a chat thread, it's been a bit. I've been having a terrible time sleeping, but wanted to see how it's going with you guys! I'm sorry I've put off fixing the theme for the updates, but I was kinda waiting until things were more stable, which it seems they are.
I've been told the next update will take ~10 minutes to go, so I wanted to give you guys a heads up. I will start getting it ready in 8 hours from now!
