  • Yep. History curves to justice my ass.

We didn't start the fire, we didn't light it but we tried to fight it. And fucking failed the open book test each time.

  • Don't forget to write in "Guillotine" in 2026!

  • "I will have you know I am a self made man! Just like my father and his father before him!"

  • I mean the millionaire class is a grey area between those who are so rich they are completely out of touch with working class realities, and those who were working class who got a break and played a good hand right.

Personally I don't really have a problem with millionaires, that's an amount you can make playing by the rules and not bending them to your own will.

  • Just a shot in the dark, but something tells me Spotify being an EU company made OP think they were better simply because they weren't based in the US. Yea, US sucks, but don't let that rage blind us to other monsters who might get off easy being from one of the "good" countries.

Especially now, 5 months later, Spotify is advertising ICE recruitment videos in Chicago. IMO Spotify is the worst of the bunch.

  • Personally I think that we deserve the respect to make our own decisions on this issue. Defederation should be reserved for situations where actual laws are broken that would jeopardize the existence of this instance or even Lemmy as a whole.

As a former mod on a larger subreddit and then a mod on a decent lemmy community, and now a sad mod trying to pick up the pieces (RIP lemm.ee), I've seen how hate can be pervasive in most every sphere. If we start locking things down because we want a hate free Internet, well... We won't have much of an Internet anymore.

My modding style was always the "let 'em cook" method. Unless doxxing, impersonation of a mod, spam, bots, and the like are happening, the community would dogpile the user, and frankly as a bystander seeing coherent arguments against hate was more convincing than just censoring it all together.

  • No, I think that decision should be left up to users, we can block an instance if we don't like it.

  • Idk I do like it when the people in government are aware of how the systems work and how to balance getting things done with keeping to core values as best you can. Inexperienced politicians tend to be loud but get nothing done, and eventually either get voted out or figure it out.

If you look at AOCs transformation over the years, you'll she's become much more pragmatic. Personally I see this as a good thing because I'm about to vote for 26 year old Kat Abughazaleh, and when she gets to Congress she's going to need someone who came from a similar position to help guide her, and AOC is exactly that person.

  • Yea, that is true. I mean having more robust regional routes covering smaller sections would be cool but don't expect an extensive web of trains going around the Rockies or Wyoming.

I'd love to see something reasonable to cover the empire builder line- I just want to get home to Seattle from Chicago for the holidays in under $100 round trip :/ otherwise it's Alaska Airlines for me.

  • Which is why it's so important that we turn out and vote in the midterms. So many Americans don't vote in the midterms because it's not for the presidential race.

Anyway if you can vote in the next midterms, show TF up and we could actually get the votes to oust this monster.

  • Serial killers just murder hobbyists so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

  • Nah your first instinct is correct, my comment was being silly.

  • No I'm the normal one helping my ND friends out and I don't need any help at all unless it's keeping structure and organization in life and that one time I did Adderall I was finally able to do my chores but no I'm fine.

  • cat

  • I don't think my cat consented to being dressed up as a banana and have their photos shared for likes but I don't think that makes me a horrible person.

  • I used to have political arguments with my dad all the time, but like in a fun debate team way. It really was a fun part of our relationship until 2020... and then shit got real when I moved to a big city and the fun was gone.

When I moved home for a year, the first few months were rough. Lots of anger, lots of pain, but eventually I came to realize nothing I could say would do anything- to my family I was just woke end of story. So I stopped talking politics at all with them, and started talking about music, or yard work, or how we like our coffee. Honestly that opened things up later on to have more honest conversations that were more level headed. Frankly I got him to agree with DEI as a concept so long as I avoided buzzwords or call it DEI by name.

My dad is still the same guy- still funny, he's still bright, he's still kind and would absolutely help a child on the side of the road, he just listened to too much patriot radio. I still call him, but we had to realize our relationship and who we are to each other comes first. Politics might change but he's always my dad and I'm always his son. Besides, when I came out as bi at 16 he was the only one who told me he loved me so that's gotta mean something. He's still in there.

  • Kamala lost because she was running on a Campaign of Joy™️

The only way to win a campaign is to garner more rage than your opponent. Nixon's campaign manager put it well- "The secret to politics is to know who hates who". That's how they flipped the then deep blue south into a Republican stronghold for 60 years.

Frankly I think this is why we are doomed to civil war, candidates that try to calm things down will always lose to candidates who fan the flames.

  • I mean unless you spend thousands of dollars on targeted ads in 2016 but that's totally different.

Also accepting imperfect allies is huge.

  • I feel like this is where the debate gets lost in the fog-

Access to abortion isn't about killing babies. It isn't about population control. It isn't about avoiding a christian based moral accountability for having unprotected sex.

It's about consent and an individuals ownership over their body.

The opposite of a government controlling what a anyone can and cannot do with their body is letting the people have full control to what happens to their body.

In this case both the no abortions and forced abortions camps are on the same side. They are about control.
