mostly empty cup straw noises

Hello! I’m Québécois and as such happily defy all Canadian obligations. The USA gave the elections to the liberals by threatening Canada’s sovereignty. This is because the Conservatives favour the prairies, where there is a strong pro USA sentiment. Alberta’s PM Danielle Smith reminded everybody of that by conniving at Mar-a-Lago while the other provinces were trying hard to show a united front. In the meanwhile Conservative Leader Poilievre took forever to address the issue since he knew part of his base actually wants to be ’murican.
So by now Carney is PM for sure, but it’s not been called yet if it’ll be a minority or majority. I’m not excited about having a paragon of neoliberalism as federal leader (still better than Poilievre sigh) so I’m hoping for a minority.

Regularly rotating plants to keep them from being lopsided/unbalanced is traditional practice. On the other hand I’ve seen some argue on the 'net that this is purely for aesthetic reasons, unnatural and stressful. My two cents is that an indoor plant lives under different circumstances than an outdoor one since outside the light source moves across the sky everyday while indoor the window is stationary. Furthermore a strong unbalance can threaten the structural integrity of a plant so I think it’s more than aesthetics.
So whether you rotate your plants or not, someone somewhere will think you’re doing it wrong. It’s that sort of thing.

I think you underestimate how offensive casually using AI slop instead of human material to communicate comes off as. As you've just made clear, you're a mod and you intend to give the example so I urge you to get more informed about the many condemnable actions that go into generative AI.

I have thought about it. They are not.

Celiac disease is an illness caused by an immune reaction to eating gluten. Gluten is a protein found in foods containing wheat, barley or rye.
If you have celiac disease, eating gluten triggers an immune response to the gluten protein in your small intestine. Over time, this reaction damages your small intestine's lining and prevents it from absorbing nutrients, a condition called malabsorption.
The intestinal damage often causes symptoms such as diarrhea, fatigue, weight loss, bloating or anemia. It also can lead to serious complications if it is not managed or treated. In children, malabsorption can affect growth and development in addition to gastrointestinal symptoms.
There's no definite cure for celiac disease. But for most people, following a strict gluten-free diet can help manage symptoms and help the intestines heal.
Gluten is in wheat, so it is in flour and in pasta. Fortunately there are other cereals that are gluten free and an increasing amount of products that are gluten free. Still is a challenge for the home cook!

That’ll be 3 points for me. Recognized Fantasio, Spirou & Panoramix. The rest went way over my head

BAKING IS LIFE… and got a little more challenging since we found out one of ours is celiac

Gentle bittersweet spleen. Love them

Grew up hearing that vinyl at home like many in Québec ❤️

Tellement.

NOPE

A lot of good reasoning is going on already so I won't repeat what I've upvoted already.
What I'll add is that from a purely emotional perspective I am systematically turned off by AI output. It repulses me like a pond swarming with existential leeches. It bears a mark of contempt towards the human experience.

Having you forcibly pulled from The Zone by some colleague knocking at your office door to make sure you received their email is obviously painful, but this makes me realize that being forcibly pulled from The Zone in ANY way whatsoever is equally painful.

The tag is:
meta property="og:title" content="‘No quick wins’: China has the world’s first operational thorium nuclear reactor"
An og:title
meta tag basically means "hey, if someone posts this on their social media, use this as the title".
So yeah OP is off the hook

I really like this band. Gives me vibes of Dead Can Dance with actual instruments. The clarinet on this track really hits the melancholy. I have two albums: Eurasia & Percival. I’d recommend both if that’s your thing.

Gaming on controller & "typos"
Sometimes I game on keyboard + mouse, sometimes on controller, depending on the game. I love my keyboard, but being able to slouch with controller in hand is welcome as well. Unfortunately I've played so many games over the years with a controller that I struggle immensely to tap the right buttons when shit gets real. It's like my muscle memory is muddied with countless mappings. As a matter of fact there's no way I can switch between two games back and forth if they are even remotely similar in terms of perspective.
Have you experienced high levels of "typos" with game controllers too? Do you know of strategies to get more precise?

On the making of an echo chamber
The widely held belief of the echo chamber has been bothering me for a while now. I don't question the phenomenon itself. It's happened often enough; I totally agree this is a thing. What bugs me though is the idea that the root cause is members of a group agreeing too much.
Agreement is good wtf. Consensus should be a welcome occasional checkpoint. How are you even supposed to build healthy communities if you don't share some common ground, like say equality for all. Sealioning is not a vaccine against radicalization. If anything the constant bickering from contrarians has the opposite effect.
Diversity may be a better sign of healthy community. Diversity of age, origins, gender, whatever. I don't believe such a community turns into a radicalization timebomb for being like-minded. We need shared values to build upon, lest loneliness swallows us all.
Nevertheless I feel that obsessing over the homogeneous aspect of an echo chamber is mistaking the symptoms for the essence. My intuit

New study confirms beehive fences are highly effective in reducing human-elephant conflict

A ground-breaking, nine-year study has revealed that elephants approaching small-scale farms in Kenya avoid beehive fences housing live honey bees up to 86% of the time during peak crop seasons, helping to reduce human-elephant conflict for local farmers and boost income. The findings, published in ...
