  • How do you curate your reading list?

  • it's about 50/50 between

    1. going into a bookstore and picking out whatever looks interesting, writing down the name of the book and author, getting some more context about the book or skirm through reviews and buying it.

    2. or just looking up "books simmilar to x" looking through recommendation threads on piefed/lemmy or such.

    the "checking the reviews" part is especially important for non fiction, i'd rather not waste time and money reading about something that the author has no actual knowladge in

  • What is a good present to get your dentist and dental assistant as a way of showing thanks?

  • as someone who's got a close relative who happens to be a dentist, here are my recommendations based on gifts that people have actually given her.

    • chocolate bar, box of chocolates - might seem a bit counter intuitive, but it's actually the most common gift given by far. can be a hit or miss, especially if you don't know the persons preferences / alergies / diet.
    • tea or coffee - honestly a really underated gift, surprised it's not mentioned more offten, also most doctors drink coffee so if you're unsure about whether you should get tea / coffee, the latter is the safer choice
    • small household items like coasters, hand towels, potted plants - not as commonly given but a lot more memorable, pretty much always usefull in some way, (she uses the decorative turkish towels one patient got her 6 years ago to this very day)
    • something handmade - listed last because it's by far the hardest to do, since your options are pretty limited unless you're skilled in some sort of handiwork, the easiest to do i imagine would be some sort of caligraphy / word art or (even a relatively simple) origami project.

    but of course something like a thank you note will do just fine, a little kindness and appreciation can go a long way :)

  • every week more or less, it's basically just as often as I remember. oh and whenever I have to update a program for security reasons, like a system wide patch or a new browser release, that sorta thing. using opensuse tumbleweed btw

  • started reading Blade Runner / Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep. I read like 80% of it in febuary but then took a long break so i forgot most of the plot

  • speaking as a polish person, our government enacted a similar but more restrictive law in 2024, and it's definitely been a positive change. Obviously it wasn't a smooth transition. Do minors still find ways to get around the system and drink energy drinks? Yeah. But because it is no longer convieniant a lot of people either switched to coffee, low caffine energy drinks or stopped drinking them all together
