I couldn't completely get away from Reddit but isn't it interesting how people still BELIEVE the company / platform is on their side?

I've been seeing that a lot of Reddit communities are getting banned if they bad mouth Elon Musk. I was hoping that after the last Reddit exodus, folks would understand that that company, and any other that backs a major social media network โ€” They don't care about what's going on.

My day was filled with thankfulness for being with my family, praise, and love. It was nice.

Here's me, my grandma and my baby cousin singing, "Down By The Riverside." [Traditional slave hymn for those unaware] I'm the lead singer and tambourine player, LMAO.

The orange man hasn't been in office for very long and I'm already irritated..

How are we Beehaw? My great-grandmother (God bless her) told me not to worry about Trump and that we'll be alright. I want to believe her. I really do. I'm already a little ticked off at him retracting some civil rights laws, also making it so Black History can't be taught in schools? It really will be a long four years.

  • No, I understand. Hoping you guys will have a space for yourselves too!

I couldnโ€™t really find any instances for Black folks so I made one myself!

Introducing Mosiac! (Itโ€™s supposed to be Mosaic, but oh well. ๐Ÿ’€) I created this platform because I've noticed how unwelcoming the internet can be for Black folks, whether on mainstream social media or the fediverse. I'm tired of it, and I want Mosiac to be a space where it doesnโ€™t matter where youโ€™re from or what you look like โ€” whether youโ€™re a Black person in the U.S. or in Ghana. The diaspora is rich and diverse, and while we share common struggles, I want us to move beyond our pain and connect authentically. Thatโ€™s the essence of Mosiac!

I've been working on this instance for a week (2 weeks apparently. Iโ€™m big brain.), and it launched yesterday. While itโ€™s currently closed to the public, Iโ€™m exploring the possibility of federating with other Black instances out there. Iโ€™m really excited about this!

If youโ€™d like an invite, feel free to DM me or email my business account at [email protected]. [You can email if you have questions too. (:]

  • Thatโ€™s a good question, Iโ€™m not sure! Whatever you guys can think of.

  • I figured Mastodon might have something but I was surprised to hear that itโ€™s biggest black-led instance was closed down after loads of harrassment. Iโ€™m tired of this happening.

What are some POC-led + POC friendly Fedi instances?

Mostly looking for instances for Black Fedi users, Iโ€™ve been looking on my own and canโ€™t find much. Much appreciated!

EDIT: Found some! Please DM me if interested. Theyโ€™re approval only of course!

    Hi, Beehaw! I uninstalled Reddit.

    And suddenly all is well.

I feel at peace, I often take things on the internet too literally (in person too lol). The whole "touch grass" phrase that many people use doesn't really resonate with those of us who are neurodivergent. I'm just weary of the online world, but it's refreshing to see platforms like Lemmy and others in the Fediverse allowing us to control the content we engage with. It's not just about the content, the audience is different as well.

Whew! How are you guys today?

  • Iโ€™m not entirely sure how this will come across, but I believe itโ€™s best for this group to remain as it is. I understand that some may disagree, but Iโ€™ve been feeling uncertain about the term โ€˜POC.โ€™ Not every one of us will share the same experiences, and I think itโ€™s perfectly acceptable for those of us who wish to create spaces that reflect our individual cultures. I believe we can coexist positively, as long as we maintain respect for one another.

  • I don't really see it as such, so I'm just going to say agree to disagree.

How would a community for black folks do here?

I'm on the verge of stepping away from Reddit (I might stick around to moderate some communities but won't be actively engaging with the content). Iโ€™d like to bring over the things I enjoyed from Reddit, specifically some communities I liked. I'm curious about how well they would do here or on an instance like lemmy.world. Most of the communities I participated in on Reddit were black focused, which often brought in trolls or upset users. ๐Ÿ’€

  • Wow, that must've sucked so hard. Most of the animosity I've been getting were in really odd places. It's not even just Reddit. I remember seeing racist comments on a Barbie video.. It was sad and weird.

I'm taken aback by the views expressed in this post, especially in a community focused on Philadelphia. I want to clarify that I'm not harboring ill-will towards every white person. However, my experiences with racism have left me with trauma, and I'm not yet ready to confront those feelings or be in inclusive spaces. For now, I prefer to surround myself with people who understand my struggles, and for the most part, thatโ€™s my own.

The recent election results have only reinforced my concerns. I'm so disappointed and feel that it's essential to acknowledge the ongoing issues faced by Black America. To the white folks reading this, I urge you to be allies, not obstacles. If your black friends are open to your support, offer it. Asking where to find POC spaces on Reddit was the biggest mistake Iโ€™ve made.

So Iโ€™ve practically argued up and down the thread, but after several panic attacks Iโ€™m one foot out of the door with Reddit but hesitant to leave as there are communities I enjoy there that I donโ€™t think moved to Lemmy. The question was asked on my cityโ€™s subreddit and I had people try to frame me into being a racist, mock my trauma with white people, and try to minimize the effects of racism that follow us all in the current day. Iโ€™m tired, man.

I know not all white folks are bad but some are making me wish to not interact with them at all. Iโ€™m sorry.
