Spoiler alert.
It won’t be.
What’s your suggestion? We can’t exactly peer into the future and see who will use their education for good or evil. The point of an educated populace is to be able to spot and stop movements like Trump’s before we get into this position in the first place.
Except the EU who did but apparently Trump didn’t know about it until a reporter asked him. Only the best people.
You’re assuming we would have been able to actually change her mind somehow when all available evidence shows exactly the opposite. You’re gambling with the lives of the people you claim to care so much about, like they’re a piece on a chessboard. When does this game of chicken end?
When is it acceptable to compromise? On Election Day? Do you wait until 5PM? 10PM? You’ve gotten out there, made your voice heard and Harris still hasn’t announced the changes you want. It’s 11:50PM. Is it okay now?
Do you cling to your principles knowing that you’re enabling Trump to win, which will not only make the situation in Gaza worse but endanger millions of people in our country as well?
Well shit, you caught me. I’m the reason why Harris got millions fewer votes than Biden did in the last election: because I told people to vote for her. You can be mad at me all you want, I was right then and I’m still right now. You can’t make any political change by refusing to play the hand you’re dealt.
But hey, good news! You got what you wanted. A genocide supporter didn’t get elected. Gaza is saved! I’m sure the war will be over any day now.
I think you’re a little confused. The harm reduction I’m referring to is making sure the next president of the United States doesn’t want to turn Gaza into a luxury resort, roll out the red carpet for Russia and return our country to the dark ages.
It doesn’t matter how corrupt and useless the DNC is if our country is taken over by fascists. Absolutely you fight and tell Kamala exactly where to shove it but on Election Day either you vote or you shut the fuck up.
I’m going to preface this by saying that I agree with you, the democrats will never be the opposition that we need them to be and we need a true left (hell, even liberal at this point) party in this country to see real positive change. I actually put my money where my mouth is and changed party affiliation to independent after the election.
That having been said, I believe in harm reduction and there was only one other viable candidate who could have stopped Trump from coming into power. In the context of the 2024 election and the first past the post electoral system that we live under, what else should we have done?
As someone who has the misfortune to live in a rural area, it’s high time that we a society (those of us who actually WANT a society) recognize that a good portion of the people who make up that rural population are utterly lost. They need to be left behind before they drag all of us down with them. It’s not nice, it’s not pretty, but we cannot and will not have any kind of functional union again until we cut out this rot that allowed the Trump government into power.
That’s an entirely different conversation, and a strawman to boot. You clearly aren’t interested in actually discussing this. I can show you study after study proving that a bias exists against equally skilled applicants with an “ethnic sounding” name, but why bother, you’re not serious and I’m done engaging with you.
You should really ask yourself why you see raising up one group as necessarily lowering another. One doesn’t follow from the other.
Being able to admit that certain groups are systemically disadvantaged and wanting to do something about it is literally the opposite of racism, what are you talking about?
Here’s a crazy take, maybe water shouldn’t be privately owned.
“Fairness? That sounds like some DEI nonsense, I thought you didn’t like that stuff?”
I agree, but it appeals to their base. It’s blatantly unconstitutional but that makes no difference to the electorate who will eat it up.
The Dems refuse to play the game and then blame the voters when their boring status quo approach doesn’t get anyone fired up. It can’t be all on us little people to do their jobs for them.
You’re exactly right. Instead of going on the offense the Dems just think “well this won’t pass so why bother?”
Meanwhile the Republicans are out here writing bills to give Trump a third term. Do you think the fact that it won’t pass matters one iota to them?
CEOs hate this one simple trick for preventing school shootings!
( At least a little!)
That’s great analysis except for one detail… what progressive policies?! Like ceding the “border issue” to the republicans? Like backpedaling on fracking when they needed votes from PA? I voted for her because she was the only option but in no universe was her campaign progressive.
Would you prefer they DID vote for Trump? I voted for Harris because she was the only real option but after what the DNC keeps doing (see: fucking Bernie in the primaries and then not even having a primary this year) I really can’t blame anyone for not voting. The Dems need to have their come to Jesus and remember that the people don’t owe them anything.
And, this cannot be overstated, fucking stupid.
