What is the canonical version of STVI?

So for those unaware, René Auberjonois filmed scenes as a Starfleet officer named West (who had an odd rank of Colonel). At the end of the movie it is revealed that West, disguised as a Klingon, had attempted to assassinate the Federation president. If you have no memory of this, then no worry. You’ve only seen the theatrical version. All the scenes which René appears were not included.

According to Memory Alpha, prior to 2009, the home media releases included the West scenes but did not list Colonel West or René Auberjonois in the credits. 2009 is when the first DVD release came out, being the theatrical cut. The page for West indicates the 4K remaster, released in 2022, includes West scenes but omitting the reveal of the assassin’s identity.

With multiple edits of The Undiscovered Country existing, what is considered the canonical version?

  • Dude, you should have stopped using Spotify when they let Joe Rogan on their platform… or when they started hosting fake music.

  • It doesn’t resemble the movie Alex Proyas directed. It’s all short stories. It ends with a man having a fight with God, which they just scream math equations into the sky.

  • Have you read the original Asimov move script? I believe it was written back in the 70s. A special edition of the movie came with a paperback edition of the book version that was illustrated by Harlan Ellison.

James Hoffmann- V60 Papers: Our Excessive Testing Was Worth It!

  • Never bothered to check till now. The stir sticks are only sold as packs of 3 ($5 USD) or 5 ($7 USD). I should replace mine.

  • I have a V60. Lately (last year or so) it has been what I use daily.

  • Never used mine for the bloom. I just use it as directed, to get even water distribution. I can’t think to brew a pour over anymore without the Melodrip.

However I did lose the stir. Oh well.

  • Does the Switch brew similarly to other immersion brewers like a French press or AeroPress? I would be tempted to just apply my normal V60 recipe on these.

  • If you ask, maybe some of them are willing to be your couch.

  • If you still consume any media, purchase merchandise, or god forbid go to the themed areas of Universal Studios parks… you are fulling this bigotry. She is profiting from your consumption of a franchise and using that fame to attack women.

I am heartbroken by what they have become. My childhood (and many other people’s) had that franchise throughout a big part of it. It has become shameful to say I was ever a fan. Nothing will redeem them. Nothing will make it okay to consume anything related to this franchise.

If you openly wear/carry/own merchandise of any kind today, you are literally sporting symbols of hatred. Please stop doing that.

  • Now that gets into Brave New World territory. They didn’t make it illegal (at least that I recall)… but it was a taboo to be part of a family. Some point in British society started using eugenics to create humans. Sexual promiscuity was expected among women (they hinted that monogamy was also taboo) but becoming a parent was no go.

EDIT: I wouldn’t recommend Brave New World. Huxley falls in line with contemporary beliefs about indigenous Americans that is downright racist today.

Finally, RockLove have gotten the Picard d’ja pagh restocked! I won’t spoil Picard season 3, but this earring was featured in an episode. Not only was it featured but the actual prop was designed by the CEO of RockLove. The one they sell is made from the same molds.

I had this before but the chain on it broke. So happy I can buy another.

EDIT: If anyone was wondering if they had a Kira Nerys d’ja pagh, yes. It is currently in stock. I wear mine a lot. All my earrings are Star Trek related. https://www.rocklove.com/products/star-trek-x-rocklove-kira-nerys-bajoran-cuff-earring

Why did Richard Daystrom get a research organization named after them?

In “The Ultimate Computer”, the duotronic M-5 computer was deemed a failure which sent its creator Richard Daystrom into a nervous breakdown. Not only did Daystrom experience psychological distress (probably the most polite way to describe it), but was responsible for a machine that killed upwards of 53 people.

Why would a person responsible for the invention of a computer that unintentionally killed (unintentionally as in, not ordered to do so) get their name enshrined? Is there anything to explain why such a troubled person that ended up killing others in a quest to eliminate the risk of human death, would inspire anyone to name an organization after them?

EDIT: I need to add some complicating facts to this. “Chose Your Pain” (DIS season 1 episode 5) gives Daystrom Institute a founding date of 2256, which is before TOS. So based on comments, likely the duotronic computer is why the name was picked.

William Shatner Live on Stage July 30-November 16 2025

William Shatner will be touring the U.S. from July 30-November 16 (he is already scheduled to appear at STLV, so a lack of August dates). He is screening Star Trek II: Wrath of Khan with a Q & A.

Does anyone have experience attending an event of this type or specifically a Shatner centric event? Would you recommend attending this? I have an opportunity to go to one of the tour dates. A single general ticket is $64.70

How long would a shuttle from Earth to Vulcan take?

So last week for my birthday, I went to Universal Studios for Fan Fest Nights. You can read all about it here.

I had a question that I wonder if it could be answered: how long would a trip from Earth to Vulcan be? The walking attraction Red Alert starts off at Spaceport Los Angeles which advertises shuttles to various places, one of them being Vulcan. According to NASA, Vulcan is 16.5 light years away. Can the length of this trip be calculated? I couldn’t find much information on Type 14 shuttlecraft featured in Picard season 3. Memory Alpha simply says they can go high warp speed.

I found this website that does warp speed calculations but I don’t know if it is accurate.

Got a awesome birthday present from a co-worker.

It is a Displate poster of the Enterprise NCC-1701-D senior crew. This was unexpected. I only see this person in passing for an hour before I leave (they work overnight). Trekkies really are great people.

Also the card they got is of Kirk with stickers inside.

If you want to see a better quality image of the artwork (the poster is metal), here is a link to the Displate website.

    Visited Vasquez Rocks

Sharing my photo of me at Vasquez Rocks that I mentioned in a different post.

Looks much smaller in person. Didn’t get a chance to get upclose. I was cutting it close on time to make it to Universal Studios Hollywood for Fan Fest Nights (it was a 2 hour drive in stop and go traffic for me).

But um, yay! I got to see the Famous Rock (the formation featured throughout Trek). There is another formation called Witch’s Hat (for looking like a witch’s hat).
