An Associated Press report reveals leaked footage from sites of the US and Israeli-backed Gaza Humanitarian Foundation.
Since commenting I listened to the podcast (the truncated version from their RSS feed). Something I would like to know more about: they mentioned that at some point, he said he would only continue his run if he was endorsed by the DSA. It sounded like endorsement wasn't a certainty. He wasn't sure if they would approve him. There was also some discussion about how nobody thought a leftist could win such a big prize, that it would just be embarrassing to suffer yet another loss. So some people in DSA were at least against it for that reason; they wanted to focus on smaller and more obtainable goals.
As I understood it, he got going, then approached DSA for an endorsement. Rather than being "sent" by DSA which is sort of how I had heard it before. I don't know if his candidacy being contingent on DSA endorsement was due to a political conviction about organization, or needing logistical backing. How responsible was DSA for these 40k canvassers? I assume they were not just in a position to muster a force like that off the bat. But it could be that they were key in recruitment/training. Training 40k people to not make total assess of themselves is very impressive.
Sometimes politicians are members of all sorts of groups, more like a paper membership to show affiliation. I think in this case it's more active. Is there any mechanism of accountability in place here? If Mamdani is elected mayor and he does something totally contrary to the DSA, what do they do about it? Does he plan to consult them when he's in power? Will they have any influence?
Also what's it like to be in the NY DSA right now? Does everyone in NYC know about DSA and that he is an active member? is DSA recruiting from the 40k canvassers? Are new people showing up to their meetings? And how many of them are spies sent by Bill Ackman?

My observations are that having everything centered around one person has been the death of various Hopeful social democratic moments before. Because the Main Guy turncoats, caves in, or is assassinated (literally or socially). I think there has been lots of chat here about the benefits of replaceable leadership as seen in the middle east. Otherwise everything is too vulnerable to just 1 person.
This guy does seem to be a competent, principled politician with a backbone. Assuming nothing goes wrong, he ought to be duplicated in other places and other levels of government. Assuming something does go wrong, his replacement should be at hand.
Is this project all a personality thing around the individual? Or is it being done more sustainably?

Stumbled on this story. The idea of teaching 12 year olds about "leadership" via Machiavelli gives me the willies.
The coverage I found seems to be very hyperbolic. On the other hand, it seems to me that if you got rid of all the exaggerations, this is still probably some kind of fucked up situation. I am quite ready to believe the community around this school has plenty of nazi-sympathy. It is alleging that schoolchildren were calling all jews "baby killers" because of the genocide in Gaza. It also appears somehow these children have conflated the concepts of being jewish and being israeli, which is a mainstream opinion promoted by the states of Israel and USA among others. This conflation is of course hostile when it is directed at jewish kids. Which is maybe a reason to avoid such conflations...

Not to put anyone off keeping their teeth clean or anything. But in most places, the condition of teeth and overall health are both a reflection of class position and marginalization. The lower status you are, the more problems you have.
My understanding of electric toothbrushes is one of the reasons they are better is because they have timers which encourage people to brush for longer. So you can get a lot of the benefit by looking at a clock while you brush. I've never thoroughly looked into it though.

The med salad colander thing still completely inexplicable. It doesn't play any role in the workflow according to the photos I saw. It is a chaotic and dangerous way of storing medication. I hypothesize it is staged for the benefit of the photographer, likely with some art direction from her.
I know it's just a third party photo on a summary article but the photographer "Barbara Debout/AFP/Getty Images" is seriously fucked in the head. The idea that anyone would ever break up a bunch of blister packs of random medications and put them in a colander like some sort of chronic disease salad is insane. For context, we see the dark skin and bold printed clothing. Is there any explanation for this which isn't wildly racist?

THE UK is hosting and training soldiers from the Israel Defence Forces (IDF) despite allegations that the military is engaged in genocide in Palestine, the Labour Government has admitted.
The news came in response to a written question at Westminster, put in by Labour MP for York Central Rachael Maskell.
Maskell asked “when the last time was that a member of the Israel Defense Forces was trained by the UK armed forces”.
In a response published on Wednesday, Armed Forces Minister Luke Pollard admitted that the UK was “currently” training IDF soldiers in the UK.
Pollard said: “As part of routine defence engagement with Israel, the UK is currently training a limited number of Israel Defense Forces personnel on UK-based training courses.”
