EDIT: turning this option on can only generate a random mediaDRM for different apps, but the same app will still have the same mediaDRM across different profile

so you can login to 1 accounts on google and also login to bank app they wont link you through mediadrm

hopefully someone could give a solution to spoof mediadrm for the same app across different profile

    Syncthing vs Obsidian Remotely Save

    Syncthing vs Obsidian Remotely Save

I want to sync my Obsidian files between Windows and Android. Between using Syncthing and Obsidian Remotely Save plugin, which would be an better option for me if I only care about sync performance, security, regex support and battery usage?

Syncthing seems to be a better option, though I'm not sure whether it supports encryption when transmitting data and regex. but it requires constant running in the background so I would say it consumes more battery power than remotely save

Remotely Save plugin is a bit buggy in my opinion (experienced a few file lost and incorrect sync when creating new files) but it supports encryption in transmitting data and regex.

    thanks a lot in advance

privacy issue log into multiple google account in thunderbird

privacy issue log into multiple google account in thunderbird

What information I might leak to google server if I issue log into multiple google account in thunderbird? ip of course but what else might be collected? It would be really great if someone could clarify whether the information below will be send to google when using their email service even through Thunderbird

    • device name
    • device model
    • ...

My main concern is that google will be able to know that I have logged into the same device with different accounts.

In addition, I plan to use VPN when using one google account but not the others. This can be achieved through profiling, but is there an option that I can simply manage all the accounts in one app but without my ip address being collected by several specific email service provider corresponding to several specific email?

    thanks a lot!

  • UPDATE: iceraven vs ironfox

    https://www.reddit.com/r/browsers/comments/1lkagoz/iceraven_vs_ironfox_firefox_fork_for_android/

I use both! Ironfox is hardened to improve security as best as possible for a gecko based android browser and focuses mainly on preventing fingerprinting, similar to mullvad's browser. Because of these extra privacy protections some websites will be more prone to break or render goofy on ironfox, but luckily I haven't ran into that issue yet.

Iceraven just strips out mozilla's tracking and adds tons of extra extensions and customizability, but doesn't include the extra security hardening or fingerprint protection like ironfox does.

Both devs are very good at keeping up with releases imo.

So if you really need airtight fingerprint prevention, or want extra security hardening, I'd go with ironfox. Also just a note, even with ironfox's hardening, it's still not as secure as a chromium based browser. Some people have very strong opinions on the gecko vs chromium security debate so I'm just pointing that out as a disclaimer. If you're gonna be treading into websites where there's a significant risk of picking up something nefarious in the background, stick with a chromium based browser for those sites as a precaution. Just my 2 cents.

  • thank you so much!

Would you recommend everyone to turn on this DRM setting? Is there any downside? This seems like a perfect option to prevent MediaDRM tracking and I'm suprised it's not default turned on

How do I simply copy a google photo to Clipboard so I can do a simple paste into any app?

How do I simply copy a google photo to Clipboard so I can do a simple paste into any app?

https://support.google.com/photos/thread/2514728/how-do-i-simply-copy-a-google-photo-to-clipboard-so-i-can-do-a-simple-paste-into-any-app?hl=en I took a screenshot, but this would apply to anything in my Google photos. I simply want to share an image to an existing thread in a Facebook group, NOT to do a general share to Facebook in a new thread. The obvious way would be to paste from the clipboard. Is there an easy way to put a Google photo into the clipboard? There only seem to be share options. I don't want to share as a link, I want to paste the actual image.

Any solutions for this now we are in 2025?

    thanks a lot

The network can see your imei and triangulate your location as long as your radio is on

    https://discuss.grapheneos.org/d/7710-changing-imei/8

A phone doesnt need a sim to connect to the network towers. Sim is only for billing. The network can see your imei and triangulate your location as long as your radio is on.

I have read this on https://discuss.grapheneos.org/d/7710-changing-imei/8, but I'm bit confused. Does this mean our IMEI is identified by cell tower as long as the airplane mode is off? What exact setting is "Radio" referring to?

    thanks a lot

thanks @[email protected] and @[email protected]

Short answer: Yes The network can see your IMEI and triangulate your location even though no SIM is installed. and theoretically with airplane mode off no radio is on

    IMEI concern grapheneOS

    cross-posted from: https://lemmy.world/post/32194340

Is it a good enough solution for IMEI tracking to use an alternative device to provide a hotspot connection?

This approach appears to protect any new device that hasn't inserted a SIM card from being identified.

But I'm not sure how much information is carried to the second device by using hotspot.

Is this a good solution so far? Should I try to spoof IMEI?

    GrapheneOS Location Services

    cross-posted from: https://lemmy.world/post/32191588

Should I enable WIFI scanning / Bluetooth scanning / Network Location under setting->location->location services?

Which one would help me navigate inside a building or underground using open source maps?

I haven't tested yet, does google map requires any of those location services enabled to work? Should I just use google map in vanadium?

    MediaDRM identifier on GrapheneOS

    cross-posted from: https://lemmy.world/post/32187260

Just a heads up for those who are using GrapheneOS. If you log into 2 (google or other) accounts on an installed app even on different profile, the service provider will still be able to link between your 2 accounts using MediaDRM. (Google will still know that both of the 2 accounts have been logged in on the same device)

    More info:
