  • I’m definitely gonna be doing some price research across regions and pre/post Apr 2025 before buying anything from now on. I’m not purchasing product from companies who socializing the US tariff costs to other nations.

  • I personally went with Ecobee because they’re the most Canadian option I could find. Head office and I’m sure majority of product development is done here in Canada. The smart cameras were made in Malaysia rather than China too, which is a plus

  • And them cornering the market is exactly what we do not want. Because they take over the market then they have all sorts of leverage politically, it supports all the knowledge in batteries over there, and with competition reduced they could increase prices via not subsidizing down the road.

We want Korean, Japanese, European, etc because it supports our allies industry and we’d like some of them to produce parts or finish vehicles here in Canada so it also aids our own economy. Heck, wouldn’t it be great for some domestic option to show up again.

  • Folks need banking, if people stopped using these US based banks they would use Canadian ones (or those from other countries? No idea who else has banks here). There would then be pressure on the other non-US banks to have more branches to service the additional people using their services. So theoretically same number of employed people employed, just under non-US banks.
