I don't usually pay attention to whichever instance I've drifted into from all, so if you see me in a weird place, that's why!

Awh my heart!

This is amazing. Thank you for this.

Full stop? I wish they would!

This response vexes me because while Uncle Barry here is certainly an example, what these people are forgetting (and what this thing about Uncle Barry glosses over) is that until the Americans with Disabilities Act, and the fights from the 70s onward, if a family in the US had a child with an IQ of under 70, they were often shipped off to an institution.
Deinstitutionialization didn't really begin to gain steam until relatively recently in our collective history- here in Tennessee we still had one of these facilities open until the nineties. These people didn't believe there were people with severe mental disabilities, because our society hid them away!
Look up Clover Bottom. But don't, because it's horrifying. I've met people who lived there their entire lives. What was done to them was disgusting.
It is awful what was done to them. But it's awful that people with a greater severity of condition, a greater need for care, are often glossed over in these comment sections. It feels like they're made invisible in these conversations just like they were in those institutions! And I'm terrified that assholes like RFK Jr will disappear them for real!

I'm a ciswoman and I actually love April's ass-kicking. I'm sure it was meant to be a dig at her femininity but it's the first time in media where I felt like, yes. This is exactly how I want my gender displayed.
And her actress was gorgeous.

"MS-13" here just means "brown people."

But it's so clumsy and artless!

Thanks. I had to get stitches in my hand best but I'll try to pop by soon.

Unexpectedly, I first heard about it from the local radio station lady absolutely dunking on them. No ads, no traffic updates, just 5 solid minutes of, "did you hear about this stupid thing?"
Loved it.

lol come on. You aren't even trying.

I can't find it anywhere!
Disconcerting.

Wherein your authority is not recognized!

In support of your comment; do you know how tired I am of "loss"?
Used to see Kilroy everywhere, too.

N=1 but I've known several (family members, actually) who used "libertarian" to say they were pro-guns and pro-weed, and on every other topic, they're ring-wing fascist assholes.
It's been pretty well documented how certain elements of the right love to twist and distort any label they can get their hands on.

stamets goodbye thread
Got worried for a sec. Thought I'd missed Stamets saying goodbye somewhere.

The viewpoint you're responding to also disregards all the art made by elephants.
People are so desperate to hate on AI art that they will justify it a billion ways, but as an artist, let me tell you that art exists in nature. Art exists in a vacuum. Art can be found anywhere, made of anything, and it's not just the creator who imbues it with meaning. Ultimately, the lens through which the consumer is engaging the art is the final measure of it's meaning.
I wholly subscribe to the idea that it doesn't matter if an artist or an author or a musician meant to evoke a feeling- whatever feeling invoked is valid.
It's one thing for a bunch of people to say that AI art is meaningless because it's same-y or because it elicits no feeling in them or whatever. To dismiss the entirety of it because it had no connection to something as ephemeral as a human soul during it's creation is, at best, ignorant, and at worst, the kind of close-minded nonsense I'd expect from reactionaries who have no actual artistic experience.
To take it a step further- if a person has a reaction, any kind of reaction, to AI art, their feelings are not invalidated because of who or what generated that art.

db0 woke up today and chose violence again.
I keep screaming it and all the fucking liberals come out of the woodwork to shit on AI- they can virtue signal all they want but I survived on selling my art for years and me and all the other artists I know can't say it loud enough:
If you aren't paying for art now then why the fuck are you mad about AI "stealing jobs"? And if you don't make art for a living I promise you, no one is mad at not having to draw somebody's Sonic OC or latex fetish to live! Uncouple the need to sell art to live and people don't stop making art, they make more of what they want to make!!
AI gives the power to make things to people who can't. It doesn't take away my ability at all. Stop the capitalist system that enslaves artists, and we will make more, and better!

Have we tried finding Franz Ferdinand?

I wanted to be surprised that these people didn't do the least bit to protect themselves... but there was no surprise to be found.

100%. This is the writing on the wall.

What Do You Need to be Accountable For?
I know if I tell someone I'm going to do X, especially if there's a deadline, it can occasionally overcome my executive dysfunction and get that thing done.
So here's a thread for it. What is it you're supposed to do, and when is it supposed to be done? And I want to warn you, I'm going to reply to you and check on you, so you better have it done! 😘

The IT Crowd: Jen has been transported

I happen to recall that in this scene, she's speaking nonsense Italian words (she doesn't actually know Italian) but the first time they show it (and the viewer doesn't know she can't speak Italian) they show Speaking in Italy... and later when they're showing that she's saying words, but they're nonsense, it still says 'Speaking in Italy'!
This is not a big deal but it is entirely wrong. Why do I care so much about this?!
(The close caption is wrong in a lot of places on this copy of The IT Crowd, but that's the most ridiculous.)
Edit: Later in the episode they show a speakerphone, on which, an Italian man is speaking. The caption for this? "Voicemail in Italy." What!

I felt like this deserved it's own post after making it for a thread.

What item you use frequently would you be least surprised to learn is secretly bad for you?
This is sort of a shower thought because this morning I was using some shaving cream and I thought, if it turns out in 5 years this was giving me cancer, I wouldn't be surprised.
Comes out a goo, ejected from a can with force, immediately becomes a foam?
Do you have anything you use that you think might be too good to be true?
