  • Because companies lobby Congress to prohibit major IRS restructuring and spending. If the IRS had auto filing and a bigger budget, it would make more money than ever before.

The IRS could go after and audit rich people while the common person just gets a check in the mall from their returns. Maybe even no check, as the returns are only from miscalculations by the federal system, which is due to a bad system in place.

We need a federal tax system in the US. No one likes paying taxes but we do. The IRS is the center of that for the Feds. And the Republicans gut it because it's easy to say "I'll lower your taxes" but not solve where the money comes from.

  • Legalized bribery is only bad when the other team is in office. When your team is bribed, it's handy so they can run again in 4 years. Just don't ask them to do any campaign promises that go against their donors.

  • It is funny that it's only an issue in Lemmy that Trump is doing it. Meanwhile the IRS has been stuck doing this for decades because of corporate lobbying from Intuit.

This as much of a regression to about 2023. When America was already behind on tax filing since the 1980s compared to every other country. Even the "shithole" nations Trump hates have had better tax systems for their citizens.

  • And that's why we have them here in the states. Right? ...Oh wait.

  • I had an interaction with one of their mods and it was very disappointing to see them so confidently on the side of silencing voices speaking up about genocide.

Was it JeffW or JordanLund? Both of those dudes can't help defend genocide. Especially JL, he openly hates Black Lives Matter.

Sometimes I get the feeling lemmy.world is run by a bunch of centrists who’s hobby it is to undermine leftism because they are afraid of leftwing beliefs exactly the way pathetic conservatives are, and it makes it hard to take the entire community seriously.

And they call us the Russian Psyop/bot. I've had so many people say things like "I'm a leftist, but [defending the most conservative positions possible]." At least .ml is honest in their intentions.

Some of the prominent very active low effort posters like Pugjesus have absolutely trash views when you actually get into a conversation about their beliefs.

And he's so fucking smug! He will defend his trash opinions, say he's the smartest one in the room, and then act like he's the victim when he says something like "I don't think you should ally with these people when ICE comes knocking" or "I don't have to respect the pronouns of people I don't like."

Lemmy.world is a majority of my blocklist. I like a handful of users from it. But the mods and admins have cultivated a inverted MAGA mentalitt around themselves. Anytime you critize their favorite thing, you'll be banned and blocked. And then they claim it's evil when .ml does the exact same thing.

  • AOC makes Trump and his shit-lickers afraid. Pelosi and Schumer don't spark any fear.

And the DNC keeps the ones who he can rally around the flag to blame for anything bad. Because no one really likes Pelosi and Schumer. People like AOC.

Remember when calling them weird was working, making them cower and the media loved it? And then they just... Stopped because how dare anyone be rude to fascists.

  • Mao had the right idea about landlords because they all act like you.

  • Where was the outrage when AIPAC dropped money bombs on progressive primaries to silence opposition against Israel and the Genocide of Palestinians?

Well when people called it out, Reddit and Lemmy said anyone who saw this was:

    • Antisemitic for not wanting murder
    • A Tankie/Russian Bot
    • Somehow wanting Trump to win by having better candidate to win against Trump
    • Sore losers who didn't like a "fair" election like Trump
    • A Bernie bro who hates $THING

If you look at the lemmy.world modlog, so many people calling out this were removed and banned, and then the userbase acted dumbfounded when the legitimate users were "quiet" after being banned, so it verified their bias of "everyone who disagrees with what my favorite political tells me is a bot/troll".

  • Might as well make a bet if the sun will rise tomorrow.

If they fought against fascists like they do to progressives, Trump wouldn't have had any chance at even the nomination in 2016.

  • Trying to burn digital books. Fascism in 2025.

  • "Here's a long detailed rebuttal to your badly informed opinion."

    "Ad hominem!"

Reddit and its consequences was a mistake.

  • Well if the DNC doesn't want to win and get Trump out, they don't have to run a candidate. If they want to split the vote from an engaged voter base wanting something new to kick out the fascist, that's on them.

  • "We can't run a woman, America doesn't want one as president!"

"Here's AOC having some of the biggest rallies in recorded American history, showing people are wanting to follow her lead."

"...Well she's also brown, so clearly no one wants to follow her for that too."

I wonder why they don't want AOC to run as a popular front runner, but have Harris have a second chance at losing again...

  • At least Hillary has some cajones, Harris never gave me that impression.

Hillary had years of experience on the federal level. Senator and then Head of State. She was used to making choices that had a big impact.

I will always remember Harris for her DNC nomination debate performance. She personally called out Biden's racist policies and how it impacted her. Showing that out of touch white men have lasting impacts on generations children. It was her highest moment. If you check articles they'll say that was one of the highlights of the event.

And then became Biden's VP. Just willing to ignore how he personally wrote a racist bill that harmed you because it's a position of power? Alright. That's sure a message about your morals.

And when asked about why by Steven Colbert: "It was a debate!"

  • They've gone into hiding so that way when 2028 rolls around they can pretend they were fighting the entire time, and how this time they need to tip the scales in running a candidate who's anti abortion and willing to deport as many brown people to sway the mythical non-Trump republicans.

  • Famously was a strong contender across all of 2020 and won her home state easily!

Wait she fucking flopped in a sea of other milquetoast candidates, which is why they all dropped out before Super Tuesday to help Biden.

  • Anything a progressive says is evil and must be deplatformed. Anything a Republican thinks must be platformed and normalized.

  • This place isn’t worth my time or effort anymore.

    bye

::: spoiler spoiler WASHINGTON (AP) — In a feat of determination, New Jersey Democratic Sen. Cory Booker held the Senate floor with a marathon speech that lasted all night and into Tuesday evening, setting a historic mark to show Democrats’ resistance to President Donald Trump’s sweeping actions.

Booker took to the Senate floor on Monday evening, saying he would remain there as long as he was “physically able.” More than 24 hours later, the 55-year-old senator, a former football tight end, was still going. It set the record for the longest continuous Senate floor speech in the chamber’s history, though Booker was assisted by fellow Democrats who gave him a break from speaking by asking him questions on the Senate floor.

It was a remarkable show of stamina as Democrats try to show their frustrated supporters that they are doing everything possible to contest Trump’s agenda. Yet Booker also provided a moment of historical solace for a party searching for its way forward: By standing o

    Controlled opposistion.

For a long time, I thought the Democrats were fighting valiantly but just overwhelmed by the oligarchy and the Republicans. Then I saw that the Democrats keep losing fights they should win and figured they must be just weak and ineffectual. Then I kept seeing them backing off without putting up a fight at all and decided they were gutless cowards. Finally I noticed that enough of them keep voting with the Republicans to always make sure the Republicans more or less win almost every fight, and that they keep starting from a Center position and bargaining to the Right, and eventually after enough of that it became impossible to ignore the only conclusion that actually fits the facts: The Democrats are not over matched, they aren’t weak, they aren’t cowards…they’re complicit.

Giving money to those in need? That's clearly a scam. Now a federal politician? They never lie!"

Inspired by a post as I read while working an odd job to help pay the bills in my home: https://lemmy.dbzer0.com/post/38653075?scrollToComments=true

I'm just reminded of how on Mastodon there was the #MastodonForHarris tag where people showed that they donated hundreds of dollars to Harris when she didn't need it.

When people asked "Why are you donating to her, she doesn't need your money, she is backed by the party. Why not donate to charity or your fellow mastodon people?" people said they couldn't be sure of the truth of people who were asking for $5.

And then the libs changed it to #Mastodon4Harris when people kept calling out how they have the money for donating to rich politicians but not for low income human beings.

Ex-presidents’ silence on Trump dismays some Democrats

Former Presidents Clinton, Obama, Biden and George W. Bush have barely uttered a word about President Trump’s actions a month into his second term, to the dismay of Democratic critics who say their voices are badly needed.

Those calling out for the ex-presidents to speak say Trump’s actions and the potential for him to bypass court orders should be red flags to the former occupants of the Oval Office.

“No one knows more about the importance of our presidents respecting separation of powers and showing restraint than former presidents,” Democratic strategist Joel Payne said. “Given Trump’s ongoing power grab, those voices and perspectives of our ex-presidents would be critical to the public discourse at this moment.”

“I don’t know what they’re waiting for,” one former senior aide to Obama said. “The time isn’t when Trump ignores court rulings. The time is now.”

Trump’s first month in office has been a whirlwind of activity in which he has sought to dramatically reduce the federa

It's annoying being an anarchist on lemmy

You call out Russia or China, MLs think if they regurgitate "read theory" that solves my issues with them.

You call out American liberals and how they aid fascists, you're calling a secret Trump supporter.

You say that genocide is an evil action, liberals and Tankies will defend their favorite country's actions because you're a shill for the enemy if you do.

You say America did something kinda good, you're somehow a neolib in disguise. You lightly praise the USSR, you're Stalin's second cousin as an AI.

I just don't want people harmed by a government force. Fuck me, I guess? I feel like I'm taking crazy pills for applying the same morals to every politician and country, even ones I live in or slightly like.

Edit: If someone said it was annoying being an leftist and a bunch of liberals came in exusing their actions and doubling down, everyone would be singing a different tune. Just kinda fascinating.
