  • This did not work out. They don't seem to allow certain e-mail alias providers and VPNs. While it's sort of understandable that they want to block scraping, fake accounts and other ill willed actors, it's also detrimental to user privacy. Or rather, it's hampering to users that otherwise already live a privacy oriented digital life. I'm staying with Tidal for now. 🙏

  • Great question!

    I'm a parole officer tasked with interviewing defendants awaiting sentencing hearings and typing up pre-sentencing reports in which I give my recommendations to the courts regarding non-incarcerating sentences. As in, would a time-served and/or probationary sentence be appropriate in a particular case and why?

    I meet people that seem genuinely sorry for their crimes and people that give zero fucks. I meet people that are awaiting trial for having stolen an apple from a supermarket and people that have raped their own children.

    As I stroll about my town on my free time, I cannot stop myself - or my mind - from getting involved when I see people that seem to be having a hard time. I sometimes walk up to them asking how they are doing. Or asking them whether they could do without that last can of beer, or without shooting up that last injection. Or asking them who their social worker is and offering to walk them to the social services office.

    Since I started doing this job, I have lost the ability to ignore that which to a lot of people is mere nuisance. Social injustice, addiction, violence of any kind. I have become too sensitive to them, perhaps to my own detriment, since I sometimes receive death threats when I intervene. Hopefully, it's just the substance or an untrained attitude talking. 😄

  • I only buy used, except for underwear and footwear. Footwear is almost always limited to: for outdoor activities, The North Face since they have a pair of shoes called Hedgehog, which I have been buying every five years, or so, since maybe 2008. For formal occasions, Ecco, since they have leather-like shoes with air cushioning. I don't really care about the underwear, but I may have a tendency to buy 100% cotton.

  • I can think of no legitimate reason. I just do it because I know how to work with ipv4. I'm just about to start learning ipv6, but since networking is but a hobby and I work long hours, the time and energy at my disposal is limited. As soon as I grasp ipv6, I guess I'll re-enable it. Until then, I'll just practice it in a container on my PC

  • I thought it was as "easy" as hooking up a USB module between your power adapter and the USB hub that introduces some amount of resistance, but alas, I can't find such a product. Even if they did exist, you'd be giving up on the 240W effect to make room for your data transfers/hubs.
