Came here to mention the same thing. Hope it's fixed soon!
Jason Mantzoukas on TM sounds absolutely fantastic. Really looking forward to this run.
Did it? I love that show, but I don't hear about it anywhere.
So that's exactly how the R's make their money, then.
This story isn't about can Canadian jobs.
"Oh no! My exploited labor!" Fuck off. What's happening is atrocious, but not because these fuckers can't continue to underpay immigrants.
Glad to hear it was a straightforward fix. Thanks a lot!
She was also facing imminent death from organ failure. Not exactly unheard of for a person facing down a painful death like that to take matters into their own hands.

NSFW flag issue
There appears to be an issue with the current version of Lemmy that removes the ability for NSFW communities to add a NSFW flag. As I understand it, Connect's client side NSFW settings use this flag to block or blur posts, so currently some posts are getting through.
Not sure if this is addressable on Connect's side, but wanted to bring it up.
Y'all are crazy.
Ew.
"On a whim". No need to take into account the 3+ movies of context preceding that one scene, I guess.
It's almost like characters can be complex and flawed and not make perfect decisions forever 🙄
Also, do you chastise partners in abusive relationships for not "just bailing"? Like, we have irl examples of how relationships like this work. And you're saying " whY dIDn'T hE JusT lEaVe?/??/?" like it's insightful?
Por que no los tres?
The grokability is high.
Looks like they flipped some stencils around. "Say no to drugs" on first one, "Say yes to pizza" on the second. Likely it's either a non-English speaking location, or the person who put it together was having a laugh.
Do people really think he'll be alive in 20 years? He'd be nearing 100.
This makes me think of neural pathways in a brain. Or blood vessels.

Anyone got some good replacement swears to replace the typical religious variety?
Stuff like "god damn", "fucking hell", etc. Anything that stems from religious sources. That includes fudged varieties like "jeez/geez" and "heck".
And to clarify, this isn't some attempt to avoid blasphemy or anything. I'm not particularly religious and would rather rewrite the neural pathways for those "defaults", but haven't been able to come up with satisfactory alternatives so far.
*To clarify further, I'm all good with most other curses (shit, fuck, ass, etc). I'm not trying to be inoffensive, just non-religious.

Why are there suddenly random bright colors everywhere in my dark mode?
Updated the app trying to fix the front page loading bug and now I'm getting flash banged by my screen when I open an image, or even my own profile with a bright blue banner I didn't ask for. Exceedingly unpleasant. Is there any way to roll back to an older version without all this?

Looking for more music like the soundtrack to Sayonara Wild Hearts
SWH is one of my favorite games/albums, but I don't know of much else like it, or even how to describe it very well - chill but pop-y, and with a dash of edm? I think it's the undercurrent of melancholy in combination with the pep that really makes it particularly appealing.
Vocals/Lyrics not strictly necessary, but appreciated!

To the people who attach sticky notes sticky side down - why?
Do you just not care, writing the note any which way and sticking it on however it ends up? Or do you specifically always stick it that way?

What (if any) are the fables/fairy tales of the modern day? (D20's Neverafter Spoilers probably)

cross-posted from: https://lemm.ee/post/55206964
I just finished up a rewatch of Dimension 20's Neverafter (highly recommended if you haven't watched it) and as the various iconic story tellers were introduced, the question above came up in my mind.
To clarify, by fables/fairy tales I would mean widely known tales told primarily to children to pass on positive ideals and morals. Not just entertainment, but at least partially education as well. I also think it should be quite well known to count - it should at least be considered common knowledge in the region it's from. As for "modern", let's say the last 100 years or so? Though anything post-Grimm may be interesting.
Personally, I've struggled trying to think of anything particularly satisfying. Dr. Seuss feels like it's just about that iconic, though that's pretty old itself at this point. Is there anything Internet based that my out-of-touch brain is overlooking?
*Further thoughts:
Thinking on it more, other comments have

Good tutorials on laser cutters?
I'm hoping to have access to a laser cutter in the near future, but due to scheduling conflicts most likely won't be able to attend any hands-on instruction on how to use it. In lieu of that, I'm in search of any online resources on the general use of laser cutters. Is there anything out there that would be useful to a complete newb like myself?

Anyone else watching Nightmare Before Christmas tonight? Best time to watch it for the next 6 years.

Gotta celebrate the rare December Friday the 13th.

Anyone have some good non-standard holiday music recs?
While I don't hate the standard lineup of holiday music, I always appreciate variety. All I know of is "Punk Goes Christmas" and maybe a handful of singles from over the years. Anyone have anything they know of to suggest? Would prefer originals and not just covers of the classics, but that's not a hard rule or anything.
Also, if possible, bandcamp links would be appreciated. With the upcoming bandcamp friday, it'd be nice to have some good bands to support.

Is there a list of hidden posts that users can see/unhide?
Not my home instance, but I hope the question is pretty universal. Was hoping to check through some of my hidden posts that I hid for spoiler reasons now that it's not a concern.

For the limited players out there - how'd your opinion on Play Boosters settle out?
I've been taking a break from Magic since the beginning of Caves of Ixalan for a number of reasons, but am wanting to check out Bloomburrow. Since part of the reason I stepped away was the Play Booster changeup for drafting, I was wondering how people are feeling about it. I'd be particularly interested in reading your thoughts on it if you were a hater that has ultimately come around to the change.

Disable thumbnails on mobile data
When I used Reddit is Fun, it really hogged up data unless thumbnails we're disabled. I've noticed that Connect is also using quite a lot of data, but there is no similar setting that I can find (there's an option to disable preloading images, but I'm not seeing what that changes).
Even if there was just an option to toggle thumbnails manually, it'd be much appreciated.

Federation issues popping up again?
I noticed a distinct lack of response to comments and looking at the threads from other instances shows that my comments aren't appearing outside of lemm.ee, and going to the link I shared shows there are 0 up-to-date instances with lemm.ee.
This happened around the big update in December, too. Not sure what the cause is, but here's hoping it can be resolved soon!
*Dunno if this info would be helpful, but the last comment of mine that seems to have federated properly was from 07:15UTC, and the first comment that seems to be missing was from 14:15UTC. So something happened between then.

What's a band that has one album that is just about perfect in your opinion, but rest of their discography misses the mark with you?
One of mine is Commit This to Memory by Motion City Soundtrack. I basically took the title verbatim and know the album word for word. And while I would love if it did, the rest of MCS's stuff just doesn't hit the same way.
And if you're not an album person, maybe a period of time in the artist's work? Whatever works for you.
*Lots of mentions of hit debut albums that subsequently petered out, which follows with the dreaded sophomore slump that hits many artists. Anyone with mid or even later career albums that stand alone? Those always intrigue me.

Is it more respectful to use more current photos of people who have died? Or is it better to use photos from their "prime"?
Just had this thought and I'm caught between the two. Assuming anything being considered were all "good" photos, what would you prefer if it were you?
*Lots of great responses! I do want to clarify that I am not currently dealing with this scenario myself, but I appreciate the thoughtful comments. Hopefully they can help people that are struggling. I know I'll keep them in mind for the future.

VW Beetle owners - how does it feel knowing you've almost certainly instigated people hitting each other?
For the unaware - Slug Bug

People should just post YT links instead of whatever obscure frontend they decide is better
For one, even if I wanted to use it, piped never works for me.
Second, on mobile, my alternative of choice doesn't recognize everyone's non-yt links, so it removes my choice in the matter.
Third, I have no reason to trust the weird-ass domains I see, and to un-fuck the url takes much more time then just handing out the original YT links and letting people choose for themselves how they view the video.

Tennessee's House GOP blocked a proclamation honoring Allison Russell for her Grammy win, while letting a similar honor for Paramore slide though.

Rediscovered this vid digging around my old youtube playlists. I barely knew who Tom was back then, and with his recent announcement, I thought it was kind of neat to come back to. Hopefully others find it as funny/neat as I do!
