  • Supplement books or make your own monsters. I love making a custom monster. I had really fun encounter with a custom ooze that could use engulf as a legendary action. Fun to have it chase the players around the map

  • Attempting to make a monster for literally every situation is how AD&D ended up with the Monstrous Compendium’s fifteen volumes and appendices, so in reality the Monster Manual is an exercise in restrain

I love the strange monsters from AD&D. Its fun to see how weird they got. I am a big fan of having lots to draw on for inspiration

  • So I have been DMing a DnD campaign from level 3 to level 15 at this point. At this point my players have killed ~900 "monsters" at in around 40 different adventures. This doesn't even count the numbers that were in an adventure they didn't kill because they ran away, avoided or were NPCs with monster stats. They have killed at least 10 in all categories except plants, fey and celestials so having lots of categories helps as well.

So we need a lot of different options to keep everything fresh and interesting for the players and myself. Some of these are nuanced adventures with complex interactions and moral dilemmas while some are basic hack and slash. So I need a lot of different monsters to use that fit different flavors, use different mechanics and cover different difficulties. I have created some from scratch but it helps to have templates to start with. I won't use everything in the monster manual but I have used a lot of it so far.

I think it helps to think of each adventure as its own little novel. So in one we are exploring the culture and cruelty of the Yuan-ti in a vaguely Mesoamerican inspired setting while the next they are exploring Bridgerton inspired high culture and dance that was infiltrated by both a rowdy fey and cosmic horror beyond the stars. It helps to have lots of inspirations to draw on since every adventure can be different.

  • If a guy openly talk about his love of bondage and kink and just being horny they’re either coded as on the right or a creep if they’re talking about women (being a thirsty gay guy is ok because they’re not straight) but if you’re a woman who likes women then culturally it’s fine.

While I agree there is some demonization of straight masculinity but I don't think this is a "left" or "right" thing but part of the general sex negativity in the culture. I do think that queers and women have worked hard to retake their sexuality and I think some straight men have done it but not in the same way.

I would say that talking about bondage and kink can come off creepy if it isn't done correctly but depends on the context. If you are looking for a good sex positive part of the internet I would recommend looking at Dan Savage Sex & Relationship Website. There you will find lots of straight men talking opening and honestly about kink and sex as well as those who are queer and women.

I think you got to be the change you want to see because the dominant cultural narrative is that there are one type of men which would be the "stereotypical masc hetero guy". With this being the case when people (I mean "2025 descendant of Tumblr feminism" ) talk about "men" this is who they are talking about. If you are not those people they are not talking about you. Be yourself and redefine masculinity to be yourself.

Also I don't think "the left" codes "heterosexuality as bad or conservative" but the right says that is the case without any support.

  • I agree. I do experience some most of which are being underprepared, untrained or without support for feminine coded things. (such as child rearing, grooming and cloth shopping for example in order). But not in my day to day

  • I am not very hesitant to do whatever the fuck I want because it might be unmanly.

We often talk about some positive aspects of masculinity and I think not caring what is manly might be the most positive masculine thing. This is exactly my attitude. I am a Man so everything I do is manly even if its traditionally feminine. Yeah I garden and cook but in my own masculine way since I am a man.

  • I have used Flawn which is based in Minnesota so a little further north. This shows the zones that the cover. I think they go down to 3.

Also Prairie Moon Nursery has sorting by zone which aren't specially for lawns but ship bare root plants. They have good filters by zones and locations.

  • I am pretty sure your best bet to get something that is roses scented but is non-toxic would be creating a tincture vegetable glycerin with roses. Take dried rose pedals and let them sit in the sun for 4-6 weeks immersed in vegetable glycerin which should impart roses smells and other rose components into the vegetable glycerin. I haven't done it myself but it is suppose to do some extractions of the compounds.

You will be extracting the essential oils and all other compounds from the rose pedals into the glycerin but in lower concentrations than a pure essential oil. (Also depending on the essential oil will have a broader range of compounds depending on how they made it)

  • I have blocked a few communities which I have really enjoyed. I think there is definitely a different but freeing experience to be in charge of curating your experience instead of algorithms doing it for you. It's more work but the freedom is nice but making the constant choice feels hard.

The savings mean a lot to Lee. He lives in Brooklyn Park and has what he calls a “typical Asian family,” with an adult daughter and grandchildren also living under his roof. The extra money can go to groceries or family fun.

“I can spend more on the grandkids,” Lee said.
