  • Hey, thanks for those of you who responded courteously and constructive to the crazy Catholic 😊. I appreciate it. To anyone who might stumble upon this thread who is interested in learning more about the nature of Hell and Sin, here is a good article I found adressing the question. The same website also has a couple other articles on Hell. https://www.catholic.com/magazine/online-edition/what-is-hell God Bless! I guess the atheist version of that would be nice talk'in 😄

  • Just gonna say, as a Catholic, He never sends anyone to Hell, they send themeselves to Hell. Furthermore, the whole "Hell is the worst pain you can imagine" immediately makes one think Of a torture chamber. That isn't neccessarily what Hell is. Hell is simply a separation from God. It is being alone and miserable that is thgreatest pain.

The whole idea of God sending people to infinite torture because man is a depraved, wicked thing is a very harmful calvinistic idea.

Not trying to be a troll. I just want to set the records straight.

  • No offense, but halfway through skimming this I started seriously wondering if it was satire. It was about as negative as you can get. How about we set down this republican vs. democrat stuff and start just going pro-america. If anything is going to destroy america, it is going to be this continuous "us vs. evil them" dialogue.

  • I'm running a yunohost server with a Nextcloud instance on top. I've got nextcloud syncing my files, of course. I use WebDav/WebCal for syncing all of my contacts and calendars across my linux and android devices.

  • I think around 200,000 seems pretty accurate going off of lemmyverse.net. I sorted the instances by number of users and it seems like it would add up good. The first five servers were 36k, 19k, 11k, 8k, 4k users. After that it was just a bunch of instances with less than 2k users. But that doesn't mean we can't get it up to 6 million :) Let's keep on welcoming the redditers.

Should I use Privacy Badger in addition to Brave Shields?

I know that in a lot of privacy communities they recommend to use uBlock in addition to Privacy Badger. The reason for this, I believe, is the uBlock functions off of block lists while Privacy Badger functions by recognizing the behavior of trackers. Does Brave Shields only function off of block lists or should I also install privacy badger? Please correct me if I got any of those details wrong.

Satire: White 12 Passenger Van Either Belongs To Kidnapper Or Nice Catholic Family

I don't know about you all, but when my mom got pulled over in our white, beat up van for speeding. . . . . . We had about 4 extra cop cars brought in until they figured out we were just a family of 8 and not carrying drugs.

  • I'm self-hosting some stuff on a yunohost server but i plan to switch to start9 once they add support for clearnet.

    • Nextcloud
    • Jellyfin
    • Calibreweb
    • Email (though I don't really use it)

I would be hosting more but our internet is too slow for anything else to really be effective.

Journalist myths surrounding the death of Pope Benedict

After the death of Pope Benedict (R.I.P. Bro) the media has decided to make it as dramatic as possible. It is important to understand what is actually going on and not let them jump to the conclusions for us.

    Gmail introduces end-to-end encryption

Breaking news! It's now raining cats and dogs! No . . . wait, Google is just planning to implement E2EE. I just thought the former occurrence was more likely than that latter. Yeah, so google is now implementing E2EE. That's a surprising bonus for the privacy committee. What do you all think, you think this is actually a step forward or will it just be a repeat of apple's "E2EE"
