  • Your own server where you self-host it isn't under US jurisdiction. It is quite expreme to be wary of open source projects just because the current main developers are based in the US. Sure, there is no guarantee Ente will remain good in the long term, but then there is neither for Immich.

  • Yeah, but not everyone has someone to help them, and many people will prefer Windows for the simple reason that it doesn't give them problems they need to seek help about, even if the problems have good solutions available.

  • I don't use Gnome, but I assume that in the Help menu of that window you will find contact information for the project. Submit a serious version of your image politely explaining the issues, and maybe if you feel like it a better designed alternative.

I imagine the author, who is probably a single person, would appreciate the feedback.

  • Wouldn't it be more future proof and simple to return a boolean indicating whether the dialog should be shown or not, rather than delegating the calendar logic to every client?

That way different clients don't have to implement the "has a year passed" logic, and you retain the ability to change how often the dialog is shown too without requiring all clients to update.

  • Yeah I can see blocking text, but you are saying the new images are possibly to avoiding blocks. Which would require some image comparison / computer vision based detection, which I would be interested to read about if it existed.
