  • Agreed, no one in the GOP has the cult of personality thing like Drumpf. The remaining grifters will attack each other in their quest for power like a Humboldt squid feeding frenzy (Google that if you’ve been sleeping too peacefully lately.)

  • I’ve used a Mac since forever. But I started using FOSS apps. Then I created a Hackintosh, until it borked. Then I installed ZorinOS and almost didn’t need to fix the Hackintosh. I did fix it, but Zorin convinced me that Linux is legit and I’m going all in on it.

YSK: If you work hard enough, your work will .’ And that’s not true.

Put simply, being in the right place at the right time, and having connections, can be as important as having the skills and experience.

  • I never see much love for ZorinOS, but I find it a very solid replacement. I still use my Macbook for certain things, but I am slowly moving away from even that thanks to Apple’s spying and whatnot.

  • Oreo’s have had all their flavor sucked out of them through enshitification—and to make you eat more to feel satisfied.

Go to any grocery store (like TJ’s) and just buy “Sandwich Cookies.” THEY taste like Oreos used to.

(But, you have to eat them fast as they degrade quickly like actual food, something Oreos isn’t.)

  • Agreed. I know people who own rentals and barely make enough to cover the cost of constant repairs. Rental properties are only lucrative if yer a piece of shit landlord. People probably make more money offering courses on how to do it than actually doing it.

    TIL about Waiting Mortuaries

A waiting mortuary was designed to confirm that dead people were truly deceased. To alleviate the fear of being buried alive, recently deceased were housed for a time in waiting mortuaries, where attendants would watch for signs of life. A bell was strung to the corpses to alert attendants of motion. It's erroneously believed that this was the origin of the phrase "saved by the bell", but the phrase really comes from boxing.

    Overhead light shorted?

My wife turned on the wall switch and the pendant light over our dining room table went out. The fuse outside didn’t blow—none of them needed to be reset. I checked for power in the light’s hanging cord, but nothing. I pulled the wall switch to check for power and nothing there either. Thoughts?

This study is from 2017, but I suspect the numbers are even worse now.

    Open source auto-correct apps?

I love Digikam, but fixing photos is a lot of work. So I use Luminar NEO to get looks that would take hours I don’t want to spend. Is there an open source alternative to Neo? Something that supports LUTs, presets, etc? Thx.

    Wasting water with tankless heater

It takes a few minutes for my tankless water heater to warm up, so we end up wasting a lot of water in our shower. Is there a way to avoid this? A friend mentioned a “comfort valve” or something? What is it and how does it work? Or is there another solution? Thx!
