  • Thank you so much :)

  • The easy part of this was that the foundation is just a big square. I picked an arbitrary size: ten 6x6 foundation blueprints on each side. The rest I just copied from inspiration images I found online. I pretty much copied an ancient building called the Ziggurat of Ur.

I think the important thing was that I built the thing first, then started figuring out what to put in it. If I did it the other way around, I figured I’d get stuck in analysis paralysis. I did know I generally wanted to build tier 9 parts in it, so I did make sure one floor was tall enough for particle accelerators, but that’s all i planned in advance.

I'm building a ziggurat in the desert

This is my biggest build yet, it’s got so much room for activities. I hadn’t built a tier 9 factory yet, so this houses all that. Along with all my new portals and my HUB.

  • I’m going to start planning my days and journaling about my work day, all on paper. I’ve discovered I really like writing when I have nice paper and a nice pen and a vision of a good journal filled cover to cover with notes. I’ve already started a reading resolution as well, taking book notes in another journal. I’m also playing around with an analog zettelkasten to support more blogging, but I’m still feeling that out.

What I’ve learned via two failed attempts at bullet journaling is that I need my notebooks to have specific purposes. Bujo being multi-purpose doesn’t help me focus on what’s going into the journal. But when I have one notebook for book notes, another for my work journal, and another just for planning my day, I have a much easier time giving each one my full focus.

  • It’s the year of the Linux desktop!!!

  • My fave is Kaguya-Sama: Love is War

  • That was such a good scene, that’s what hooked me

  • This basically the setup for Zom 100: Bucket List of the Dead. It’s an anime where a guy has his soul drained by an awful company and when there’s a zombie apocalypse, his first reaction is to break into the corner shop and get some beer and have a day off. It’s a fantastic series about living life to the fullest, and the art is so great: it’s incredibly colorful, as opposed to most super-desaturated apocalypse media.

  • I usually flip back and forth between my left and right side. The air tube has plenty of slack and there’s a hinge and pivot where it meets the mask so it moves around pretty easily.

  • I got a machine from my doctor

  • “Host” fucked me up and is the reason I don’t watch horror movies anymore. I’m a huge baby though.

  • The YouTube channel “Tasting History” has a video on this. If you’re interested in the history of food, that channel is fantastic.

  • I keep all my genders and related information in KeePronounXC, which stores my pronouns in an encrypted format locally. It also lets me generate new, complex genders so I can use a unique one per relationship.

  • I’m proud of you. Linux Mint was my first daily-driver distro and it’s still one I’d recommend to newcomers. I hope you have a great time with it!

  • Treating my sleep apnea, and also getting adderall

  • He’s the sweetest cat I’ve ever met. He loves to snuggle with me and he follows me around my apartment wherever I go. And he loves pets and belly rubs.

  • I spent $25 to adopt my cat from my local humane society and now he’s my best friend in the whole world.

  • I love that area. Those labs are some of the coolest environment designs I’ve seen in a game. It takes a while to get to unlock the area though so it’s a shame that new players don’t get to see it early.

  • I love finding similarities like these, and the one you mentioned about teletype is a new but really cool interpretation to me. Though I tend to view things more mechanically than naturally; I love playing factory games like Factorio and Satisfactory. I guess the natural metaphor I use most is the human body, which is a really complex system with lots of interacting subsystems. I forgot the name of the book & author but a medical doctor wrote a book on complex systems and said that any sufficiently complex system, like the human body, is always dealing with some degree of failure, so any artificial system needs to be fault-tolerant at many levels to continue functioning properly.

  • I’ve had a great experience with the TrueNAS Mini-X system I bought. ZFS has great raid options, and TrueNAS makes managing a system really easy. You can get a box built & configured by them, with 16 GB ECC RAM and five (empty) drive bays, for about $1150 at the most affordable end. https://www.truenas.com/truenas-mini/

One thing to be careful about: you can’t add drives to a ZFS vdev once it’s been created, but you can add new vdevs to an existing pool. So, you can start with two mirrored drives, then add another two mirrored drives to that pool later.

(A vdev is a sub-unit of a ZFS storage pool, and you have to choose your RAID topology for each vdev and then compose those into a storage pool)

  • Borderlands 2 is my favorite in the franchise, for sure.

Bartending anime with really cozy vibes and forays into japanese distilling and bartending history

I recently heard the announcement of a remake for this anime, which made me go watch the original. The art isn't phenomenal, but it has such comfortable, cozy vibes.. Here's the description from AniList:

Genius bartender, Sasakura Ryuu makes the most incredible cocktails anyone has ever tasted. Seeking his "Glass of God", individuals from all different walks of life visit his bar. With both a compassionate ear and a godly drink, Ryuu helps people with their problems.

    Favorite punch?

I’ve been reading David Wondrich’s Punch and I’m in love with the whole idea of punches. Getting a bunch of people together around a big bowl of something tasty and drinking the night away sounds so fun. It also sounds nice to be able to prepare a great drink for everyone without having to spend too much of my time away from my guests shaking up individual drinks.

I’ve mixed up a few batches of Philadelphia Fish House Punch and it’s now one of my favorite drinks. Does anyone here have a favorite punch recipe?

P.S. If you haven’t read Punch or Imbibe!, I wholeheartedly recommend them. David Wondrich is a really fun writer and cocktail history is a really interesting subject (to me, at least).

    Elixir for Fediverse applications?

Does anyone else think that Elixir could be really well-suited to writing fediverse applications? I'm really tempted to try my hand at writing an alternative Lemmy backend. If anyone is feeling the same way, I'd be more than happy to host a project on my GitHub and give y'all access and we can see what we can do.
