The Director of ‘A Minecraft Movie’ Is OK with Chaos During Screenings: ‘People Are Making Memories’
I see from the downvotes that you apparently have a hot take, but i completely agree that people are overreacting (except for the instance of physical violence against a theater employee that I saw mentioned earlier in this thread, that is unacceptable).
When I was a teenager I went and saw the 5th Harry Potter movie, and when Dumbledore returned in that one big scene (idr the context), the entire theater stood up and clapped and yelled and whooped and screamed. Like we did a standing ovation mid movie. It was one of the best movie experiences I've ever had. No one agreed to it before hand, we just happened to be a rowdy crowd. Everyone. Not just the people i was with, I mean I'm sure some audience people were annoyed but most of them were participating organically.
This minecraft business reminds me of Rocky Horror Picture Show audience participation. I think a really REALLY easy solution is for theatres to designate "participation shows" and "watch shows" and let people choose which one they want to go to. Then no one can be upset if they go to a participation show and people are loud and messy.
I think there's an entirely separate conversation to have regarding the wages of the theater workers who have to clean up the mess after. I'm not gonna touch that topic right now.
Be kind and have fun. Life is short. xx
A squizard?
Do you remember "Papa Smurf, Can I Lick Your Ass?" None of my friends do. It was either weeble's stuff or ebaum's world, I don't even remember, it's all like rustling leaves in my brain.
... is this a 9/11 joke?
I am grateful that you and others took the time to respond. I fear that even these really simple answers are still beyond my understanding. It's good to know there are people that build pcs on commission, i guess i probably knew that was an option.
Anyway, it's all beyond me knowledge and finance wise at the moment, but I will save your response. I want to de-google and de-microsoft for the same reason I de-reddited. Not cuz it really matters to my life, but because idk i think it matters to the world and even if I'm just one small drop in the bucket, enough of us are a tidal wave.
Hope you're having a peaceful day xx
ETA: I foster cats and grow weed too, let's go get ice cream be best friends
Meatloaf again?
Have either of you read the Pendragon series by D.J. McHale? If you liked Percy Jackson, you'll probably enjoy them as well. I really enjoyed the audio books.
I don't know how to tag/ping people on Lemmy, so i hope u/surewhynotlem sees this as well. @surewhynotlem (<- just checking if that works)
Have a great day!
Nicole never messaged me and I miss the ol' switcharoo and beetlejuicing and r/catsstandingup :,(
I left reddit during the api drama last year (more than a year?). I did it on principle. The content on lemmy is not comparable to the niche communities on reddit. Yeah, Steve Huffman is a little pissbaby or whatever the current meme is. But lemmy doesn't have the art communities or the weird goofy shit that reddit did, and as a chronically online loser, my life is a little emptier without it. And I know how stupid and unimportant that is, which is why I'm here and not there.
Plus the porn on lemmy is just like... so disappointing and sparse.
Unrelated- I'm ready to switch to Linux, but do I really have to learn what a distro is and how to build my own PC? Can't I just buy a Linux PC ready to go? Please?
I work in horticulture and tend to plants- transplanting into different sized pots, pruning, yknow, physically interacting with plants. I also monitor the environment of the greenhouse- temperature, humidity, amount of water in the soil. Recently my boss has implemented ai and sensors to read the room and adjust the humidity and the temperature and monitor the water levels automatically. It doesn't work very well, because there arent sensors evwrywhere, and some parts of the greenhouse get better ventilation than others, so the temperature fluctuates. Me and my crew know where the hot spots are, the robots don't. The plants are suffering. We are doing extra work and killing off more plants on average than we did a few months ago.
About 1/3 of my crew has quit or been fired over the last year, and none of them have been replaced.
I've asked for a raise because I'm doing a lot more work with a lot less people, but they don't have the budget for me, since we just implemented all this ai that's gonna make my job so much easier.
I got written up for having a bad attitude (aka asking for a raise) and am now on probation at work. I am almost certainly about to lose my physical labor job to a robot and.it is blowing my fucking mind.
Take care xx
You are entitled to disagree, and as i said before, I do not know Chelsea Mannings' stance on the matter. Some trans people do refer to their past tense selves with their previous names, or even do not change names after coming out or transitioning. You are correct that court documents will not be altered.
The point that I am making is that, in general, it is considered disrespectful and quite rude to dead name and misgender someone unless they have given you express permission to do so. It's really not a matter of being technically correct, it's just a matter of being kind.
Unless you are friends with Chelsea (which I am not), or unless you are directly quoting something out of the court document (and even then, you can just say "Manning"), there's no need to use the name that she used to go by, and there's no need to use he/him pronouns. We're talking about Chelsea Manning right now, but this goes for any trans person that you are not personally acquainted with. Another example would be to say that Caitlin Jenner is an Olympic Medal winner, regardless of what she looked like or what name she won those medals under, or what category she won them in.
Again, not an attack. I'm just making noise.
Hope your night is going well.
(But fuck Caitlin Jenner, she's a bad person)
A lot of people assume this is the correct way to speak because it's chronologically correct, but the general consensus in the trans community is that she was always Chelsea Manning, and always was a woman, and the time that she spent using the other name and gender need not be reflected upon. I do not know how Chelsea Manning personally feels about this, and every individual is entitled to their own respect, however the general etiquette when you do not know is to NOT deadname or misgender them, regardless of what era of their life you are referring to.
This is not an attack. Just a PSA.
Have a peaceful evening.

The movie was forgettable and not that special. Going to the IMAX with my uncle and three cousins and watching our first ever (and only ever) 3d movie together and squealing the whole 3 hour car ride home about how much fun we had as a family is one of my best memories.
Cops burst into women's restroom to remove butch lesbian, accusing her of being a man - LGBTQ Nation
Someone on Lemmy, I wish I remembered and could credit them, called them FARTs- Feminism Appropriating Radical Transphobes. I've been telling all my friends to do that, it feels right.
There's an audience for everything, niche stuff like nutsack tiddies probably pays very well.
Nah, they've been pretty obsolete for the last couple of decades. They're unhealthy for female reproductive organs, much like anyone with the last name "Trump". It's a fair comparison, IMO.

Oh yeah that's a great deal for one of those hahah
Have a great day and a wonderful life with your cool bird

There's a unique trauma that comes from watching your parents be wrong like this. If your teacher were a normal person, your dad could have been correct. A normal teacher may have said, "this wasn't the assignment, but good effort, good proactive problem solving, good teamwork with your dad". Instead, your dad, who you trusted, who you looked up to as brilliant and infallible (I'm generalizing here, abt kids and parents, maybe not your relationship specifically), convinced you to think outside the box and then you were punished for it.
My mom had a typewriter and then we were one of the first families to have a computer and a printer among my classmates, and my mom always made me type my homework because she thought it would impress the teacher. I got in trouble because I was supposed to be practicing handwriting. The teacher never told my mom tho, so i was made to type at home every night. And then I'd just re-write it on the bus in the morning. And it would look bad because the bus was moving haha! And now I have TERRIBLE handwriting!
Couldn't take a pic cuz i was driving but...
I crested the hill on my way to work, and perched on a powerline was the biggest Red Tailed Hawk I've ever seen in my life. The sun was rising on the other side of the road, dusting the snow covered mountains in pink and gold light, still half covered in shadow, just waking up. The road in front of me was straight and clear, there were no other cars. As I drove past this big guy I slowed down and was gonna stop to take a picture, but we locked eyes, he flung open his massive wings, dust swirling in the air around him, glinting in the new sunlight. He shook himself out like a wet dog and swooped in front of my window and into the pine grove across the street.
