Driver murders child, and the mother is arrested. Racism and car centrism double whammy

A black mom was trying to cross the street from a bus stop, because the nearest crosswalk was almost a mile away. A driver hits her child and she gets blamed for “jay walking”. Just an insanely evil country.

  • Einstein was. He wrote an article literally called Why Socialism? Oppenheimer I’m less sure of, but after watching the recent biopic and reading a bit more I’d be willing to bet he was sympathetic at a minimum, possibly more so but just less public out of fear of losing his job.

Wild how well educated people end up socialist 🤔

  • Yeah. There’s variants of this from capitalist parents who do the first part, then follow up with some shit like “then I take half their allowance for taxes, that’s communism baby!”

  • The brain drain from non-Western nations is tragically real. Intelligent people will see more rewards in capitalist nations and relocate there to help themselves and their families. If capitalism didn’t produce such big inequality people would have less incentive to move there. Ideally we’d have intelligent people spread through the world and throughout many industries, but some jobs are rewarded better than others

  • Watched it, was surprisingly less anti-commie than I was expecting. I feel like it painted the red scare as a shitty witch hunt, without explicitly being pro-communist. A good chunk of characters were communist or communist adjacent

  • It was definitely more critical than I was expecting. Surprising how many on the project dissented to its usage. I guess most had expected to use it against Germany while they were actively fighting. The red scare definitely looked like the needless witch hunt it was. Wartime seems to excuse many deplorable behaviours

  • I was curious if he was actually more friendly to communism than portrayed or not. It did seem like he was sympathetic to the cause, but I wouldn’t be surprised if he downplayed it after going through all those interrogations.

I don’t know enough about the CPUSA at the time, but I’d imagine they did more than drink and dance. I did like the way they portrayed the hiding of knowledge as problematic, and that sharing discoveries is how innovation really happens, not markets monopolising patents

  • Yeah, I think communists in the movie were painted fairly favourably, and McCarthyism of the error was less so. I do feel like they intentionally left out Einstein’s socialist preference, but who’s to say

    Anyone see Oppenheimer?

I didn’t see much info about it prior to watching, went with some friends. A large part of the movie is about his possible communist affiliations, and his defaming. It wasn’t insanely anti-communist, but it definitely operated under the assumption communism equals bad. Anyone else have some thoughts on it?

  • I talked to a liberal friend of mine who defended planned obsolescence saying “if things last forever, people won’t have to buy new things, and innovation won’t happen without new consumers”

Like why should I be replacing everything I own every few years? That’s insane

  • Most western liberals are primarily focused on social issues because of the media narrative centering those issues as the dividing line. The American two party duopoly does not want people thinking about actual economic policies to help the working class, it would make the masses realize they are much more alike than either sides ruling class
