  • It saddens me that some dinosaurs probably had gregarious colors and fleshy structures that we'll never know about.

  • I think I tried Platinum for a bit but yeah it was too cumbersome to play on my phone.

  • Sounds good, I'll continue to emulate Soul Silver and Emerald on my phone 😁

  • As someone who hasn't played a pokemon game since Gen 3, what are they like these days? Have they totally jumped the shark?

What does the White House say?

  • Yes

  • Paywall so I can't read the author's main points, but it's all relative when you say "bad at baseball." Compared to the average person or even the average pro athlete? Yeah it's extremely impressive to play AA ball after not playing since high school, I think he was 14 years removed from the sport. Absolutely an athletic freak with crazy work ethic and natural talent. I'd argue that anyone who makes it to AA is far more than decent. And I think Space Jam kinda gives his baseball skills a bad rap.

But in the context of professional baseball, he wasn't major league caliber. He slashed .202/.289/.266 in 497 plate appearances at 31 years old. If he had continued to play I bet he would have been promoted to the majors at least once for the spectacle, a la Bronny playing on the Lakers with his dad. But I doubt he ever would have been truly serviceable.

Hitting against major league pitching is really, really hard. Like one of the hardest things in sports imo. Like so hard that the best players in the world have to spend years in the minors or foreign leagues to even sniff an MLB roster.

  • How common is it for students in non-English speaking countries to learn a second language that isn't English? I would imagine not very. Learning a second language isn't very useful if you're not going to use it, and learning it won't be easy if you aren't immersed in it.

  • Not impossible, but I don't see what advantage there would be to keeping him alive vs just getting rid of him entirely.

  • I didn't know Nelson Mandala was such a talented artist.

  • I said most cultures in recorded history have been heteronormative. In Ancient Greece, the most commonly cited example, it was a mixed bag and was more often about pederasty and power dynamics than it was about equal homosexual relationships. It wasn't a one-to-one equivalence of the way we view sexuality today.

As I said, there were times and places where it happened, but you'll struggle to find more than a handful of examples of accepted homosexuality throughout recorded history.

Do you disagree that homosexuality has been overwhelmingly a taboo in pre-modern times? Or that it was ever accepted in a way that it is in developed societies today?

  • You recall correctly! The first two panels are called the throwaway panels or throwaway joke.
