Meta trying to blame and put responsibility on someone else? That's a first 🙃

Hey, we have 5 cars, let's buy a sixth one! Wow...
But also, I hate the "you need to buy a car so that I can use it" approach so f-ing much...

The issue with Friendica, compared to Lemmy/Mastodon/etc, is that you'd need your friends and communities to also move to Friendica, which hardly happens

I wonder how the EU is gonna like those two options

For some reason I expected this to be a pun or a dad joke...
Yeah, clock app crashing is an interesting one... 🤔

Wasn't YouTube unrelated to Google at first?

I believe (might be wrong!) there was literally one guy working on it so anything in their personal situation could be the reason

It's hard enough to find a good alternative, let alone a FOSS one... So sad to see KC and SUMO go...

Thanks! And thank you for your help!

Gotcha, that works for me, thanks a lot! Just to make sure - I also don't need any dog insurance, right?

Traveling with dog to Hamburg (from abroad)
I'm planning a week-long stay in Hamburg next year. I want to come with my dog. I know the rules with pet passport, rabies vaccination etc, but I also found something about a Hamburg Dog Registry and couldn't really tell the registration and insurance rules also apply to tourists traveling with dogs?

Someone should then probably let them know 🤷

I think it just auto-discovers federated instances and randomly shows them on the page unless explicitly disabled...

- You don't 🙃
/s Sorry, I had to 🤣

Man, I stole your meme

Obligatory xkcd link: https://xkcd.com/927

The website that you visit (as in your Lemmy instance) does log your IP address to fight abuse etc. Afaik it's not sent to other instances, so unless the server admin sells it somewhere (which they shouldn't but I guess you never know - that's why some folks host their own instance), it shouldn't leave the server.
Obviously that doesn't mean your IP is not logged by external services embedded in the Lemmy UI you're using - be that ads, video players, etc

Thanks!

Sorry bot, but you can't just skip the FBI Operation name on this one...

Considering there is a Debian 12 based version available and the latest Ubuntu-based one is 22.04, it does look like they're moving towards Debian. They don't seem to be the only one to do it, I've heard Linux Mint team is supposed to make LMDE their main distro at some point in future as well

I do have experience in nodeJS microservices, including DB ORMs and REST APIs. It's about migrating that knowledge to java environment now

Suggestions for java dev wannabe?
I'm a web (frontend) developer with 7+ years of experience. I want to become a full stack developer and want to get to know the business side of java. Already know the language and can easily write small CLI or GUI apps (mostly thanks to knowledge of other languages) but have no experience at all with anything business-related. What libraries/solutions would you recommend to me to learn (DB libs, queueing, http server, sockets, etc, anything else)?

Feature suggestion: duplicate posts handling

Hello LJDawson, let me start with saying how happy I am to have Sync back :)
The one issue I have with Lemmy is duplicated posts between different communities (see screenshot). Posts usually have same title, author and link, yet differ in community/server they are posted to. It would be great to be able to make the appear as one item on the feed with some note below that links to both instances' posts, or something like that basically to make them not appear twice or thrice one under another.
