  • But Deepseek isn't Open Source by any definition of that word that I'm familiar with. Sure, they release more components than ProprietaryAI (which is a low bar,) but what you're left with is still a blob with a lot of the source code not released and no data set published as far as I can tell. Also, if I wanted to train my own model with the tools released, I'd still need millions of GPU hours. As I said, they are more transparent than others, but let's not warp the definitions of words just to give a "win" to another company that is just making another hallucination machine.

  • It's from some game, I remember downloading it on itch.io but cannot remember the name at the moment.

  • I came out a little less than a month ago and have had a long time where I never remembered my dreams, but those where I did, I always presented male inside the dream. In just the past few days I've started remembering pretty much every dream I've had, and in all of them I've been presenting fem.

It always felt off that I was masc in my dreams when that did not at all feel right. I have not started hormones yet, only social transition as of now, but it feels very validating in that sense to finally see myself in my dreams as well.

  • I mostly use Guix and Debian. An official Guix package would be pretty rad if it could be done, otherwise I might be able to create a patch to add it when I get time if it meets the submission criteria.

  • Not a native speaker of French, but while "on" can be used as singular "they," it is much more often used to say "one," as in: "One could eat a meal." I think "iel" is better because it is distinctly a third person singular personal pronoun. Sure, it is not as well established, but it is in at least one big respected dictionary.

  • Pretty !

  • Which flag is that in Hyfetch? Don't know if I've seen it before :)

  • Huh, my experience is that it has worked very well for just that, thus my recommendation.

  • Is this something that OnlyOffice could solve? They aim for strict compatibility with MS Office IIRC and it's been working really well for me.

  • Another vote for Debian here. Very low-maintenance distro and you can install it with as many or as few packages as you wish.

  • Ayooo

  • Eww, AI "music"

  • Free Software, as defined by the FSF, cannot restrict commercial use, and the OSI says the same about Open Source.

  • SMB is weird, do you have the option to run NFS on the share instead? Since NFS is made for Unix systems, it's what I've always gone for.

  • They didn't. The rootkit just does not run on mac, they disable it entirely for that client.

  • On a more serious note - check your local laws. My contract said I'm not allowed to have pets, but where I live you cannot deny your tenants that right, so that part is void. A lot of neighbors also have pets, so it's very much fine.

Going mute when trying to come out? Any tips?

Hi all! I'm a trans woman who's known since I was a kid. My classmates brought up the topic of being trans once in class, and I remember mentioning my desire to "maybe become a woman when I grow up", as I put it. I can't remember the reaction clearly, but I must've been pretty put off since I didn't attempt to talk about it for quite a while after.

Fast forward to me being about 14. I get a deep episode of dysphoria and instead of hiding away like I usually would, I go to my mother, entirely pale in the face. We talk a bit in private and the only thing I can get out of my mouth is that I don't feel like a boy. She takes it as me not feeling like I live up to the gender norms and tries to solve that. Meanwhile I can't keep talking. My brain stops producing words at all and I just can't say anything.

This happens a lot of times over the years every time my mother asks me to buy new clothes for myself, every time the same complete shutdown. I really just want to continue working this

    Browser transcoding addon with server?

I have a laptop with limited decoding capabilities with regards to royalty free formats, which YouTube tends to use, but I do prefer the quality that I get out of av1/vp9 encoded content on YouTube when using those on my home PC over what I get through h264ify.

What I do have, is a server which runs Jellyfin and can transcode content just fine. Is there any software I could host which could transcode videos I watch with a browser extension via my server?

Sorry if this is jumbled or unclear but it's something that I would really have a use for, and if feasible, would even write myself.

Apt-cacher-ng: Cache packages on a local mirror instead of redownloading them

I set this up a few weeks ago since all my systems, except one Gentoo server, run Debian and I am very happy with it. Should work on all distros using apt (Mint, Ubuntu, etc.) and I've read that dnf may work with it as well.
