  • Small write-up of the last 20 mins of the video: (because I need to go do laundry lol)

If you must converse with a fascist:

Principle 1: Stay on message. Maintain control of the conversation. State plainly what is at stake, what they are doing, and don't allow them to change the subject. "What you are doing/saying is hurting people. Stop being an asshole."

Principle 2: If you're explaining, you're losing. Just. Call. Bullshit. Make them explain why it's not.

Principle 3: Fascists by definition are hateful losers. Do not think otherwise. Do not allow themselves to hide or run away or change the subject. Call them hateful. Call them losers. Call them weird. Publicly.

    edit: forgor a word

Thought Slime's "Fascists will waste your time." (53:31)

Fantasic breakdown. Explains how fascists operate and how to handle them.

I wasn't sure if I could link this here. I would consider this related to current events surrounding us in the LGBTQA+ community, though it's not news.

  • Extra good news: "Just in! A second huge ruling for transgender people! The 9th Circuit Court of Appeals just DENIED the government's motion for a stay in the trans military ban case. The government CANNOT enforce it's ban on transgender people in the military still. BIG day for pro-transgender rulings. "

  • It's rough and tough out here. If I knew I was going to be illegal as a kid I would've been so hyped for what crimes I did, but apparently just existing is one ahaha.

"In a landmark decision issued late Friday, a federal judge granted a preliminary injunction blocking the Trump administration’s passport policy targeting transgender Americans."

From Substack: (Erin Reed) "In case you missed it: The Trump passport ban is BLOCKED! But right now, the ruling only applies to defendants. I am expecting this to be expanded to a class covering all transgender Americans, but for now, if you are transgender, my recommendation is to continue to wait until we get that class certification. Once the ruling is expanded to all trans Americans, I will inform my readers, and that will be the time for you to rocket-speed file your passport updates."

  • That makes a lot of sense, at least with what I know about medical stuff (which isn't a ton I'm just a nerd). I'm allergic to red meat and haven't eaten it in several years. Used to crave it like crazy but had an accidental taste a few months ago and it tasted like actual shit.

  • That's so interesting! I'll have to ask my sis if the same thing happens to her (also trans in the opposite direction lol)

  • Thank you friend. Unfortunately because of how deep red my state and how stupid the UK is with this stuff I'm stuck. Just hunkering down and preparing for the worst.

  • Wish I could lol. Broke as shit and I can't just leave my family behind. Unfortunately to get Real ID I have to provide my citizenship documents but those are in my deadname + birth sex and I can't get them fixed without a baseline of $1k (have to pay for at least 2 private doctors in the UK to verify I am my chosen gender, plus court fees and 18+ months processing time).

  • im a dual citizen myself but cant get my passports because im trans 🙃 that and broke as hell but still. id get stopped at the border because a guy with a fullass beard with a 'F' on their passport is considered fraud.

  • Lemmy.World April update

  • Thank you admins for your diligence when it comes to things like this (esp in regards to CSAM).

  • All this reminds me of is that video of that guy who's friend "upgraded" his shower pressure. And it was just one hyper-powerful stream out of the whole shower head. Wish I had a link.

  • I'm really good at smelling food and when it's about to go off. If my nose even picks up a hint of rot that's all I can smell. It's really bad right now because our fridge died so everything smells like carcass in the house right now (even though it's gone).

  • Oh no that also could be it! I was one of the luckier ones that didn't lose complete sense of smell, but it's a lot different now. I wouldn't be surprised if it did fuck with my taste too.

Odd question, but did your taste buds change?

Okay so. Not sure if it's an age thing, or a hormone thing, or a me thing...

I'm post hysto + oorpho (not due to transition but cancer scare) and I've been on hormones for a few years now. Late 20s.

I CAN'T HANDLE SPICY FOOD ANYMORE. I was okayish with peppers and ginger before. Now my mouth explodes if I even get a whiff of the stuff.

    Anyone else have changes?

  • Listen, I understand where you're coming from. But plant farming can be just as bad as animal farming. They cut down massive swaths of local wildlife, trees, flora, and use pesticides and other means that soak into the ground water and run off into lakes and streams. That affects literally everything too.

Yes, animal farming causes massive emissions. It's filled with cruelty and waste. But so is plant farming. You can sustainably farm. But if you shop anywhere but your own back yard you're contributing to that pollution. The produce we get at markets and stores comes from those big battery farms. Even farmer's markets aren't safe anymore - at least here the sellers are no longer small-time farmers. They're resellers and from the big company owned farms that have more acres than workers. Because it's too expensive for small time farmers to keep up with demand.

Vegan leather is so much worse for the enviroment than leather made from skin. Actual leather decomposes and becomes food for the earth. Vegan leather is usually made of plastic. The nail polish my spouse found recently is vegan - it's made with plastics rather than biodegradable materials like beetle shells and plant-based colors.

There is no ethical consumption under capitalism. You are a part of this cycle too.

  • "Treat others the way you want to be treated" is such a core belief of mine. Im in my late 20s now and I'm more and more disheartened by how rare it is to meet people who believe it. Growing up I couldn't understand. Now that I'm older I still have issues coming to terms with it. People suck and it sucks.

  • The thing is I don't think I would mind advertising if it wasn't shoved down my throat 24/7. The fact I can't read a webpage without ads blocking everything, I can't watch TV without more than half of the show's runtime being ads in and out of segments, I can't even step outside without seeing the billboard or another 5 ads shoved in my mailbox!

I get 15 some-odd emails a day from different companies trying to get me to buy things. I block them and they pop up with a different email address. I can't even open my email without ads popping up masquerading as actual messages (Gmail). Don't get me started on the entire Google app thing.

I can't open an online map without getting SPONSERED listings. And places I use the app to order from try to advertise me their own food WHILE I'M ORDERING. Panda Express started asking me if I want a subscription to Starz or whatever.

    NO. NO. NO.

I'm exhausted. I want to go to a store without being immediately inundated with ads or sellers. "Buy this!" NO. LEAVE ME ALONE.

I'm overwhelmed. I'm overstimulated. I'm done. I don't care how "quirky" or "flashy" or "hip" your ads are. I refuse to buy anything I see ads for now. It's too much. Shut up.

TL;DR: we need controls and limits to who, what, where, and how things are advertised. It should be an enforcable crime to have ads louder than a certain decibel for one. But it's not enforced and fines aren't more than a drop in the bucket. I doubt I'll see it in ny lifetime.

  • reading this thread I'm glad I'm a removed in a relationship. my spouse is the best. i got so fucking lucky.

there's a massive epidemic of loneliness out there. the loss of the free/cheap third spaces, lockdowns, and social media have made a fucking shitstorm. I'm scared for the generations below me just starting to enter the workforce. so many kids just unable to function properly.

i can't solve it. but I've been putting my devices down more and (trying) to get out more. get more sunlight and fresh air, even if i just sit outside and watch the ducks. it's hard out there. give yourself a break, okay? eat a snack and take a walk.

  • The prices plus the fact the "physical" games are just download codes (cartridges are not preloaded) really killed the hype for me. I was excited for the new Mario Kart. But $90 for a physical download code after the lackluster, unfinished feeling main titles (Animal Crossing especially) on the Switch has me kind of disgusted. The game "upgrades" also are a bummer. Mario Party Jamboree, while fun, also feels unfinished. A lot of Nintendo's newer games do, save for Zelda.

I just hope Tomodachii 2 is available on Switch 1. If it's not I'm just going to have to wait for a rip.

State House is pushing to add gender essentialism to the state budget, forced religious instruction time and stripping public schools of funding among others (H.B. 96)

    Quote from EqualityOhio:

" Yesterday, the Ohio House just introduced Sub. HB 96—a state budget proposal that goes beyond funding issues to actively harm Ohio families, public schools, and marginalized communities including LGBTQ+ Ohioans and our allies. This budget proposal would:

    • Defining Gender as only two sexes.
    • Requirement that all books in libraries that reference sexual orientation or gender identity be made inaccessible to minors.
    • Prohibition on funding for homeless shelters that are affirming a young person’s social transition.
    • Requires public libraries to segregate materials related to sexual orientation and gender identity, restricting access for young people under 18.
    • Dismantles the bipartisan Fair School Funding Plan.
    • Funnels more public tax dollars into private schools with little oversight.
    • Strips Ohioans of elected representation on the State Board of Education.
    • Enforces outdated retention policies that disproportionately harm LGBTQ+, Black, and brown
